Color of Magic was a decent movie, still too bad they cut huge chunks from the books (always the thing that disappoint me) but I guess if one's only watches the movie, that wouldn't do any justice to the story.

Same goes for "Hogfather", don't remember exactly but lots of parts have been cut out and some things didn't make any sense to me anymore.

I, personally, read them in publication order. Hope you'll fall in love with the City Watch as much as I did.

One thing that could totally ruin the way you pictures things in your head is : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Discworld-GOLLANCZ-S-F/dp/0575077123

I love Paul Kirby's art and glad I bought this book.

Anyway, don't know if you're into video games but I've played Discworld 2 as a teenager (without ever knowing of Pratchett or that it was based on books) and loved it. But now that I think back, I would have enjoyed more if I had read at least a solid dozen of Discworld books before.

I also played "Discworld Noir" but didn't finish it.

Than you so much! I love it. I got it on Amazon for a convention. I wore it non stop all weekend. It was awesome :-D

I also am not sure if it's allowed, but here's the link:

Happy witching!

There's a great Discworld board game called Discworld: Ankh-Morpork Tons of fun references to the books, easy to learn rules, and the board is a map of Ankh-Morpork, the main city of Discworld. Highly recommended. There are also several other Discworld board games, but try this one.

This poster was recently mentioned in this subreddit, and seems cool: http://www.spinelessclassics.net/the-colour-of-magic-fantasy-poster-258.htm

Personal favorites that might apply:

"Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life."

  • Jingo

"Stupid men are often capable of things the clever would not dare to contemplate..."
  • Feet of Clay

I'm sure I can find more for you, but I'm at work and my copy of The Wit and Wisdom of Discworld is at home.

Actually 28 minutes due to the 11 o'clock news summary not being factored in.

The CD version will be released on 15th January "with bonus length episodes and outtakes" (but it doesn't say how much bonus length there will be).

There is an official map available, here's a link to it on Amazon UK

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0552143243

I have the map of Ankh Morpork and it's pretty interesting

I've been purchasing the reissued mass market paperbacks one at a time as I finish them (currently reading small gods ). I'm pretty sure they are the only ones I've found to be a complete matching set. So far so good.

If you enjoy this, buy the original. It's got a preface by Stephen Briggs about the process of creating the map, too.

Ach I'm over 2 weeks late... and it's funny - I was re-reading Small Gods at the time!

There are a few different versions of the book:

I just read The Folklore Of Discworld and it says that the story is explicitly a reference to these myths, which are widespread across many different cultures.

King Arthur in particular is mentioned as being asleep under a castle or an abbey, waiting to be awakened at a time of great need.

I have the black cover paperback set of all discworld books.

Unfortunately if you're not in the UK (like I was) they're expesnive since they're only available in the UK (amazon.co.uk).

I really like the cover art although it doesn't have the zany quality of the traditional discworld covers. (kirby, kidby et al.)

The only one missing from the set is Eric. (something to do with publishing rights).

Here is a over exposed picture of them:

If you're interested in hardcovers you can get these ones:

http://www.gollancz.co.uk/2013/10/announcing-the-discworld-collectors-library/

These look really nice as well but aren't a comprehensive set.

I have been thinking if it makes sense for us (r/discworld that is) to petition transworld to get the rest of the books published in that collection.

Edit: Here for example is the Night watch version on Amazon UK:

Well, if you just want art(and want to know what the characters OFFICIALLY look like) there's The Art Of Discworld by Pterry and Paul Kidby.

u/BafTac · 1 pointr/discworld

These books from amazon have a very similar cover to the ones from OPs picture.

All listings with a name like book title (Discworld, Band X), however they don't seem to have Eric..

u/ramennoodle · 5 pointsr/discworld

Apparently released in the UK in late 2012 and in the US in early 2014. Or at least Amazon seems to think that is the case:

There's a few collections of pieces analysing Pratchett. The one's I'm aware of are (amazon links):

Terry Pratchett: Guilty of Literature
Discworld and the Disciplines
Secrets of Wee Free men and Discworld

I have a poster of a book cover, but I got it at a museum.

There are Discworld Mapps, too!

The Discworld Mapp

The Streets of Ankh Morpork

A Tourist Guide to Lancre

My Mapp from Tourist Guide to Lancre

Check The Discworld Mapp. Large fold-out map of the Disc that could be adapted to a tabletop.

US Amazon and Barnes & Noble both state that it'll be released on March 25, 2014. I think Canada shares the UK release for some reason... :(

u/CaptAngua · 2 pointsr/discworld

And that list isn't even complete - I notice it's missing I Shall Wear Midnight (follows on from Wintersmith, if you're interested). And that's just the Discworld novels - he's also written The Bromeliad series, the Johnny Maxwell trilogy and co-authored Good Omens with Neil Gaiman, among others.

u/mage_g4 · 5 pointsr/discworld

Characters, I guess. Maybe the Watch. If you don't have The Art Of Discworld, buy it.

I personally have DEATH and The Death Of Rats on my leg.

It kind of entirely depends on your favourite parts of the Discworld series. I love DEATH and The Watch, so I would go with them. I also like the Witches, so Granny Weatherwax would probably feature and there would have to be a Feegle or two.
