It's not dubstep, but Come On My Selector by Squarepusher has the line "let the bass kick". It's an actual bass guitar though. I linked you to the part where the line is spoken, but you should watch the entire video because it's really fun. It was directed by Chris Cunningham who did a few videos for Aphex Twin. You should check out all the videos that were featured on his Director's Series DVD. Great stuff.

The AKG K240 Studio Headphones are a steal at $80. I've had mine for two years so far. They are one of the best pairs of headphones you can buy before you get into the high impedance models that require a headphone amp. I can wear them all day unlike other headphones. They have a spring loaded band that rests on your head and puts the cups in the exact right place over your ears while resting the weight of them on the top rather than the sides of your head.

tl;dr these studio headphones are amazing, comfortable, and a good deal.

Upvotes for Klipsch 2.1 systems. I got one last year for college because my home system was to big to bring. It hits pretty hard for dubstep, and the sound quality of the drivers are great as well.

A little bit above your 100 dollar mark, but the extra 50 is well worth it. I was actually surprised Klipsch made a system this inexpensive.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this book. There's no way to pussyfoot around this - you need to gain a basic knowledge of digital synthesis to get any better at this kind of thing.

Z2300's are all you need.

I fucking love my set.. nothing louder on the market.. No sub hits notes so smoothly without that fucking rattle. They just got discontinued, making a cheaper set for more expensive now..get them while you can
here.

TL;DR THX CERTIFIED. THAT IS ALL

This debate sent me searching and to the following passage from
Dub: Soundscapes and Shattered Songs in Jamaican Reggae:

>Today, the sounds and techniques of classic dub music have been stylistically absorbed into the various genres of global electronic popular music (such as hip-hop, techno, house, jungle, ambient, and trip-hop), and conceptually absorbed into the now commonplace practice of song remixing. Few people are aware that dub, a style built around fragments of sound over a hypnotically repeating reggae groove, was a crucial forerunner of these genres and that much of what is unique about contemporary dance music is directly traceable to the studio production techniques pioneered in Kingston beginning in the 1960.

Of course, it's just one scholars opinion.

European experimental electronic music certainly had a huge impact on the development of the electronic part of electronic dance music, most conspicuously through the medium of Kraftwerk's infectious refinement of the tradition. But, as far as I know, the Jamaican sound-system culture that fueled the development of dub is the earliest manifestation of something like a DJ centric "club culture".

You're treading in very dangerous waters asking about headphones. In all honesty, you don't need to spend more then $100 for a nice pair of headphones.

That being said. I have 2 pairs of these... They have served me well for many years.

For annoying the neighbors I have a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system, this thing makes the entire apartment rattle. For keeping things quieter I have a Sennheiser HD 280 pro and HD 598, both wonderful headphones.

I just grabbed the 7506 recently for mixing but honestly I'd use them for production or casual listening.. Not sure how well they block sound from someone next to you listening but half the home systems I play on sound worse than my headphones
