They look crazy good. So much better than what you are most likely expecting. But more importantly, they sound great too. If you've ever watched these back in the day on TV or DVD or Netflix, etc. they have a very heavy hiss in the audio track. There is very little hiss on these. To me that makes the world of difference, more so than the video.

I feel like I'm over selling it, keep expectations in check for 1930's movies, but given the age of these they look and sound great. Some look better than others, but well worth the upgrade over DVD imo. It's like $23 or something shipped to the US. Do it, Halloween is approaching.

u/Gamanis · 5 pointsr/dvdcollection

This set is honestly the best set of movies I own. The box it comes in is simply amazing. its not just a typical cardboard holder. Id recommend checking it out in store to really see what the box is like. The extended edition is not necessary but makes it a little more enjoyable.

as for steel-books, they are the same most of the time, its just the case they come in is just a better box. Sometimes they have cool cover art. I always prefer steel-books just because they look better than the plastic holders.

u/page395 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Sorry I'm late, but I have this boxset, and I love it. Theres hours and hours of behind the scenes and extra footage, and the movies themselves are amazing. Totally worth the money

u/hansorg · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Oops. I misunderstood what specific editions you were talking about. I read your original post as the Masterpiece Collection and the CLASSIC Collection. The Essentials Collection contains identical remasters of a few of the films in the Masterpiece mastered by the same team. That being said. You NEED the Masterpiece Collection. And the Classic Collection fills in a few important gaps:

Nice collection and welcome to the subreddit!
Alfred Hitchcock blu-ray collection releases next month, and as far as Disney movies go the Disney Movie Club is pretty awesome

u/mikewilzn · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

One of the greatest movie franchises in existence. I have the extended edition box set and it's super nice.

u/hoverboarder · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Just bought this shelf and really happy with it. Tedious to build, but holds SO MUCH. Great price too.

u/949paintball · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Here is the link, if you want to buy it. I have the collection and it's pretty awesome. Expensive, but awesome.

u/offensive_user_name · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection

Fantastic box set. It's the US version hansorg has. The UK and Australian version comes in a fold-out digipack style case.

u/Duals902 · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

DO WANT!

Also this link is probably more friendly for users. Plus if people preorder this set through that link money is generated for gift cards that go back to the subreddit each month.

u/FuneralDog · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Dude, this hurts. You gotta invest in somethin'. There are some decent media shelf options for, like, $30 on Amazon. I've got a couple of these, and they do the job pretty well.

u/SuperWoody64 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I don't have it yet but I think Miller's crossing is in the coen box set. It's on sale very often at Best Buy.

$21 on Amazon

u/Gambit1138 · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8ES8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I definitely recommend it so far. Stores a ton without breaking the bank. We're living with my folks, so we only have so much room to work with. But we'll definitely invest in one or two more of these once we finally move into a new house!

u/dirkdiggler112 · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I got it from amazon. Here is the link if you are interested. It does a pretty good job of handling weight, the only problem I really have is the top shelf of my left one, but I have one too many steelbooks on it haha.

u/Villa_Del_Refugio · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I'll add to the list, if anyone cares:

-Make sure to get the newest MEMENTO. It was remastered.

u/BlueVelvetUndrground · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Even if you get the standard version without all the bells and whistles, the artwork is a lot better on the region free version than the Region 1 version, even if it does come out a week later. I want this a lot.

u/oneofthesevendwarves · 7 pointsr/dvdcollection

https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B008RLD1VY This is the best set, specifically the UK version because it's often FAR cheaper than the American set. Also, it's region free so you should have no issues. It's missing North By Northwest, but even buying this set and North By Northwest at full price would save you money.

u/Ryebone · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I had similar racks as yours (and still do) but recently went with the "Prepac Triple Width Wall Storage Cabinet" (link is from Amazon but I bought the same unit at Wal-Mart.) It's pretty sturdy, adds quite a bit of height and the shelves are quite customizable in where you place them.

u/TalesOfFan · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I finally picked up the Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection thanks to it currently being on sale on Amazon. Now I need to sale my Alfred Hitchcock: The Essentials Collection. I have it up on eBay right now for $30. If any one is interested just shoot me a message.

The Island of Lost Souls steelbook and Shogun Assassin through one of Eureka's flash sales a few weeks ago. I made an error with the title. The Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray is from Zavvi's Buy One Get One Free Disney sale. I also picked up Fantasia, but they shipped them separately.

u/TheFatKid4Life · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Here's a purchase link that benefits the Prize Vault.

u/SCUD1737 · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Agree with everyone has said, just wanted to post an amazon link to the dvd set that has the newer edits but comes with the original theatrical cuts just in case anyone was interested. Here

u/graffiksguru · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Pretty sure it's this shelf, because I have the same one, and remember being irked about the middle section. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8ES8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/cinemaquest1 · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Off of Amazon. It was something similar to this:

Sauder 409110 Multimedia Storage Tower, L: 32.44" x W: 9.41" x H: 45.35", Cinnamon Cherry finish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RRH23W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZnprDbGDHW3MX

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I have three of these, and they work pretty well. The heavier shelves (collectors sets, digibooks, etc) have started to bow. But, for the price, they get the job done.

u/AstorReinhardt · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I used to store them in boxes/tubs on top and under my entertainment cabinet...but I ran out of room lol.

Getting rid of nearly half of my collection because of the space issue...I'm going to dump the stuff I never watched/just didn't enjoy and upgrade to blu rays the stuff I love. I'm not sure on storage. I have plans for some sort of shelving unit but not sure which.

Leaning towards https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KW0BDI/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_63?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER because it seems to be able to hold around 600 standard blu ray cases.

If I limit myself on what movies I want to own...I should be able to fill that up and call it good.

I will be cheating some and putting my big box collections/steelbooks somewhere else. I'll also be getting multipacks of movies in one case. So a whole series of movies in a single case pretty much. Cuts down on space taken up drastically.

u/CaptainGibb · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Buy the UK Masterpiece collection, its a LOT cheaper than the US version.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitchcock-Masterpiece-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B008RLD1VY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=hitchcock+blu+ray&qid=1566590440&s=gateway&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&sr=8-1

Then get this set as a companion, it has 3 important films missing from the set

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfred-Hitchcock-Collection-Northwest-Strangers/dp/B006LMILRK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=hitchcock+blu+ray&qid=1566590569&s=gateway&sr=8-5

That should give you a good chunk of his films! You’ll just need to pick up To Catch a Thief.

If you want his earlier stuff, look into Criterion Kino’s releases (theyre pricier tho)

u/origami_rock · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

This set has an awesome piece of artwork on the inside of the slip cover.

u/Cstowers40 · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Atlantic Elite Media Storage Cabinet - Large Tower, Stores 624 Blu-Rays, 528DVDs or 837CDs with 9 Fixed Shelves, PN35435725 in Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8ES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bOAyCbBMARAN3

I have this shelf for mine. It’s a great sturdy shelf for not a lot of money

u/beav0901dm · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

There's a used one here going for $294 with free Amazon Prime shipping.

EDIT: Corrected Link.

u/Imalawyerkid · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

I have 2 of these...

http://www.amazon.com/Atlantic-35435725-Media-Tower-BluRay/dp/B0058O8ES8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1457987952&sr=8-9&keywords=dvd+shelf

They fit dvd's nicely, and take up minimal space. It can be a pain though if you need to file something that starts with a number or early alphabet and you have to take out section after section to rearrange everything else. Still, for the convenience of not building something myself and space I like em.

u/disposable420 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

i got THIS and THIS around xmas time one year while working at FYE on a buy one get one free sale INCLUDING my employee discount for a total of $15. i haven't seen the trilogy set in the wild for any less then $100 since that day. It's the only edition that comes with the uncut theatrical versions.

u/GizmosArrow · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I thought it was just a one day deal on Amazon, but it looks like you can still get it for $120.

u/Dudeside · 6 pointsr/dvdcollection

I use these.
It's worked really well for me the last couple of years. They make smaller sizes as well.

u/DirkBelig · -4 pointsr/dvdcollection

>look up "Sauder 409110 Multimedia Storage Tower, L: 32.44" x W: 9.41" x H: 45.35"

Because providing the link would be too much work? That said, those are good shelves. I have two, but in different finishes. It says that it has 6 shelves, but that's only for CDs; if you set it for DVDs you'll get 5 shelves.

u/Gawtie · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Thanks! The media shelves are bought from amazon

u/19hunter11 · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

I’ve heard really good things about these. Atlantic Media Tower

u/SweatyPancake · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Damn I just looked and it’s $50 on Amazon! I got it in the Christopher Nolan collection and that was only like $35 haha.

u/irontap · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

The Alfred Hitchcock collection is really nice http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008RLD1VY?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links

I would wait on it for a while though because it goes on sale fairly often.

u/Iambro · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

It is a good deal. That said, [Amazon] (http://amzn.com/B008M4MB8K) has had a similar price for at least the last 6 months.

u/jdtdwp · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

It didn't. I own this version as well, it's the Canadian Digipack. Been popping up a bunch on the sub recently. You can buy it on Amazon here

u/crapusername47 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I believe many of the films in this boxed set have been made available separately:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008RLD1VY/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_ifFitb0P1RTN3

Not included in that set is North By Northwest which looks glorious.

If someone complains that a Blu-Ray is 'grainy' you can go ahead and dismiss their opinion and tell them to go watch the Predator Ultimate Hunter edition.

u/curtistalls · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I picked it up in the blu-ray box set, it was on sale for like $30 total at the time. Now it's even cheaper. You can check it out HERE.

u/Cyanides_Of_March · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Buy box sets from directors you like, Coens. Sometimes cheaper than buying them separate and you get the box for display purposes.

u/Warotia · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I am on the fence whether to buy them like this or buy this instead

u/loganowens · 5 pointsr/dvdcollection

this box set that royal_b gave me serves my purposes quite well.

u/patrickw234 · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Of course my man, right here. I got it on sale for $50 one day, but it's normally at $72.99. Still worth it, in my opinion.

u/slayster · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Somehow I'd never seen the castle version until I looked for it now. But then I purposely waited until all the films were out before buying a set.

The trunk is a worldwide release, that article links to Amazon UK. You can find the US one here for $350!

u/ninjartist · 4 pointsr/dvdcollection

Just to be clear: There's nothing on these discs that aren't on the Alien Anthology, correct? I'm tempted to get these (if only for the booklets/art cards), but I might just wait for the next FoxConnect 50% off sale.

u/zevulf · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

So I'm torn. Which would you guys prefer and why? This DVD seems like it has more extras than this Blu-ray which I'm assuming has higher quality picture.

u/ClosetsX5 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Its actually just a simple media shelf from amazon. Https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8ES8/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apap_OXSz9jwiju1y6

u/Farsight_Enclaves · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I've got one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Triple-Width-Wall-Storage/dp/B001KW0BGU/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1453311949&sr=8-24&keywords=blu+ray+storage

And two smaller, homemade shelving units holding my collection. The linked piece is about the quality you expect from these sort of things, but it does hold a decent amount especially if you're thinking of eventually doubling your current number. The other issue you need to consider is how many Blus/HD-DVDs vs. DVDs you're holding. Adjustable shelves are a must for mixed collections.

u/rotomhead7375 · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

There is a second, smaller UK set which includes Dial M For Murder, North By Northwest and Strangers on a Train for around £15. None of these films are in the Masterpiece Collection so this smaller set may be worth a look if you're planning to buy it alongside the larger 'Masterpiece' set.

Link to the 3-film set

u/stefifofum · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

This is the region-free UK version, which is almost identical packaging to the US version, but does not include NxNW. It goes down to ~$40-50 on Amazon UK every few months.

It's a great deal, and you can usually also pick up the three-disc region-free UK set with NxNW, Strangers on a Train, and Dial M for Murder (2D/3D) for ~$20, too, meaning with both sets you get 17 Hitchcock movies for ~$65.

u/DroogyParade · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

Keep a look out on the Alien Anthology. Picked it up last year for $20, and have seen it go on sale multiple times.

http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Anthology-Blu-ray-Sigourney-Weaver/dp/B001AQO3QA

u/crystalistwo · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I found the unit on Amazon. Will it hold DVDs too?

u/CthulhuToo · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8ES8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They're kind of a bear to set up (1000s of screws...) but they're a ton of storage for the price.

u/phogel1 · 4 pointsr/dvdcollection

Buy the UK version from the UK...it's cheaper

u/HacksawHames · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I honestly don’t recommend this shelf, it’s a lot more trouble putting it together than it is. Ex. Some essential parts didn’t even come with it and some parts broke.

Link: Atlantic 35435725 Media Tower Elite Large (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8ES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Gso.BbAJJSHN1

As to your second question why I have done new movies on dvd instead of Blu-ray is because when I got it I didn’t have a Blu-ray player then and I’m not in a hurry to upgrade it.

u/CHEEZYSPAM · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

sorry... blu only. I think the reason why is because they had semi-recently released the DVD versionswhich are actually superior to this new BD version because it included the unaltered versions of all the original trilogy (meaning no extra/crowbarred CGI crap Lucas forced in).

I couldn't believe how much these DVD sets are going for now... I guess they're in high demand now because everyone is now realizing how much the BD is kinda screwing everyone over. I'm glad I got the DVDs when they were $15 each!!

u/Gigafrost · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

Oh, does this release have the original theatrical versions? I might pick it up, then, although it sounds like it's letterboxed into a 4:3 ratio by the comments? Annoying, but probably less annoying than End of Evangelion being letterboxed into 4:3.

u/HanSolosSizzledHeart · 4 pointsr/dvdcollection

Amazon! A lot of the reviews say it’s either hit or miss, but I haven’t had any trouble.

Atlantic 35435725 Media Tower Elite Large (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8ES8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/brebs_ · 3 pointsr/dvdcollection

Here you go! The only complaint I have with them is that the vertical pieces are big enough to hide a blu ray behind them. I had to cut apart the extra shelves to make spacers

u/Hairybane · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I purchased 3 of these the other day

Atlantic 35435725 Media Tower Elite Large (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058O8ES8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2My8yb24PZABZ

Mine has 8 rows for blu rays and 1 that can hold movies sideways. I'm a little disappointed I have a wasted row

u/themanbat · 5 pointsr/dvdcollection

I've already done it. So I say do it.

Buy the UK edition that has 8 films. It's less than 40 bucks.
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Monsters-Essential-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B008H45YSO
Strangely cheaper than the 6 film edition

Remember the set might go out of print eventually. If it does, and if you're unlucky, the used prices on these things can get ridiculous. Like right now the Friday the 13th Series set on blu ray goes for over 300 used on amazon. I'm a classic and modern horror nut so this makes me want to rise from the dead to take vengeance on my enemies.

You can buy the additional more complete series as they come out, and if they all are announced with release dates, you might be able to sell it used for more than you originally bought it.
