Honestly, I don't get to check it very often because he won't let me. He's fine when a doctor does it but I can barely put it in before he swats me away. The one I got has a little picture chart to compare to, so that was nice. I think they key is to do it semi often, even when they're not sick, so you get some practice and know what it's supposed to look like and the kiddos get used to it. The one I'm linking came with 2 different sized disposable tips for adults and kids and was $40 but you can get different ones by the same company (Dr. Mom) for cheaper.

4th Generation Dr Mom LED POCKET Otoscope and both Adult and Pediatric Disposable Specula Tips and Case. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AJDZJCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Fjg9AbG3H62YM

No need to see a doc just yet if you're not in pain.

Here are two products that I highly recommend everyone own:

  1. Elephant Ear Washer Bottle System by Doctor Easy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005M2B5P0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aljnDbJRK0X69

I only take it daily because I'm on the keto diet and it's one of the electrolytes that can become low in your body super quick. For a trip I'd take something like the powder you probably only need to dose an hour or so before.

Here's the link for the one I've used in the past.

Just a tiny little camera with lights on the end that you can connect to your phone/tablet/computer. You can get a decent one for around $20.
