They are the absolute best, and will make you laugh/smile every damn day. But stubborn as all heck. Mine is 5 years old, and the only thing she'll do on command is sit. That's it. And even then it's 50/50 whether she sits or not. So just be prepared and know that they pretty much do whatever they want. When you discipline them, you have to be overly stern to the point they start pouting. For the most part, they like to chew on furniture, shoes, etc when they're young so you can buy a foul-tasting deterrent to spray on things like baseboards, couches, flip flops, whatever. It doesn't smell bad or ruin the upholstery, but it tastes terrible to dogs. Can't remember what it's called but it's pretty common. I got lucky with mine and she never chewed on anything, but I was prepared after doing my research early on.

Clean their folds every other day at least, if not daily. I use this and it works well. They are a lot of maintenance, but if you stay on top of it, it's manageable. It just becomes a part of the daily routine. Once skin irritations in the folds become problematic, it becomes incredibly difficult to reverse.

Oh, and have I mentioned that they are STUBBORN? Lol, seriously stubborn.

For the most part, you get what you pay for with a bulldog. Over breeding is obviously a big problem, so do your homework with breeders. I traveled 10 hours each way to get mine from a particular breeder, and she has been 100% healthy since day one.

I had the palette-reduction surgery done very early on, so she could breathe easier. I recommend it.

Their farts could strip the chrome off a fender. But you get used to it.

They snore really bad. Still doesn't deter me from sleeping with mine. I find it soothing (most times).

My last piece of advice is to love them fully every single day. Mine has brought so much joy into my life, and I don't want to think about the day where she will no longer be with me. Best of luck and be sure to post pics here when you get him/her so I can say "Such a good boi/pretty lady" out loud and upvote you. :)

I fee your pain! Same thing happened to my 8 year old Bulldog just a few months ago. Our vet diagnosed the problem as allergies (just by looking at her symptoms, no tests).
I didn't bother doing the allergy test as the problem cleared up pretty quickly with the remedies below that I used. However it didn't, I would have done what others have suggested and gotten a test done to know for sure.
Dogs often develop food allergies (such as chicken) later in life so many owners don't suspect a food item they have been eating for years could be doing damage.
I also did not want to put my girl on medication unless it was my last resort so here is what I did and thankfully it worked wonders!

-coconut oil on skin and in food once a day
-cod liver oil in food once a week
-castor oil on skin
-baths every three days with [this shampoo] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0037Z6VLM/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505792891&sr=8-3&keywords=antifungal+dog+shampoo&dpPl=1&dpID=31TsVzyu4SL&ref=plSrch)

Other natural products a holistic vet recommended that you can google for more info are colloidal silver, neem oil and also lavender oil (just a few drops mixed in with the coconut oil when you apply it on the skin).

I also have been feeding her a raw diet for a few years now - when I first adopted her, her skin was horrible and she had ear infections every month. Switching to raw food improved her coat, stopped her ear infections and helped her overall health. I also only feed her natural treats every once and awhile, nothing packaged, such as apples, sweet potatoes and sardines.

Good luck and if you have any questions I'm happy to help!

A lot of bulldogs are allergic to chicken, beef and potato, ours certainly is, she gets itchy and develops scabs in her coat
We’ve switched to a zignature kangaroo mix which she seems to be doing well on, she also has these nuggets https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07KNFKHXH?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image since giving her these her coat is soft shiny and scab free - good luck
