My girlfriend and I just got it too. I went all out and got all the expansions and everything. We decided to play the first couple rounds with just the main game but are adding in booster packs as we go along. It's a bunch of fun.

One thing I'd recommend is getting the "Whole Damn Verse" Map. For 35 bucks the map lays out really nicely and includes the expansions areas too. I bought it on a whim because I love Firefly, but after seeing the game board look like a pair of pants, I'm so glad I spent the cash on it!

I think that 'Firefly that was' is very good, but I can't really get behind a re-launch. It failed because it wasn't what TV could use. If it were to come back, it would have to be in some marketable capacity- which is not how the old show was.

I suggest you check out a few things to get your fix in the meantime:

Well even though it isn't space I do recommend Red Dead Redemption. It's got a more serious tone than Firefly, but it's still on the level.

Stargate: Universe, from what I've seen, has been pretty good. My dad loves watching it - it's an ensemble in space - might be up your alley?

Definitely check out the comic books on amazon of Firefly/Serenity, though to fight off the depression just a little bit longer.

If you're a bookworm with a deep pocket, here's a list of books on Amazon:

Serenity Vol 1

Serenity Vol 2

Serenity Vol 3

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind

Firefly The Official Companion Volumes One and Two

Firefly: Still Flying

Firefly: A Celebration

It's actually this one Serenity Ornament

And I love it, it's a great little piece

Obviously the film on Blu-ray is the most important missing element. But as you may know, "A Celebration" contains the "Firefly Official Companion Vol. 1 and 2" and "Still Flying" in a single hardcover volume. It's awesome.

You should however also pick up the "Serenity Official Visual Companion", as that content is not contained in "A Celebration". Those are my favorite Firefly possessions.

If you like painting minis, you can get the Customizable Ship Models 1 and 2, and make them look really nice.

And then the comics Serenity Vol 1: Those Left Behind, Serenity Vol 2: Better Days, Serenity Vol 3: The Shepherd's Tale, and for when you re-watch the series (tomorrow) Firefly: The Official Companion (hehe) Vol 1, Firefly: The Official Companion Vol 2.

No I don't work for Whedon, just another browncoat...check your local library first, it's free!

Also, for anyone interested, the first original canon Firefly novel, Big Damn Hero, is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

Can't get link right now, but it's in the subreddit about 18 posts down, I posted it 3 days ago (remember to check the subreddit directly because not everything shows up on your reddit home).

Edit: Link

I saw the graphic novels, but I never saw anything about the companion books :D

Are these the ones you are talking about?

u/Sprinkles0 · 3 pointsr/firefly

I highly suggest getting The Whole Damn Verse if you have all the expansions, since it has the the sections combined into one giant game mat. Everything's cleaner and there's no seams.

They're also continuing the story after that. Here are the two volumes that are coming out later this year:
