>No person has ever said or thought, "I want my headphones cable to be more convoluted, proprietary, and expensive to replace."
That's one of the reasons why my favorite headphones for a few years now (I'm on my second pair) are the August EP650s. For 50$ headphones they sound fantastic, are extremely comfortable, and they connect natively to bluetooth, 3.5mm and USB. I use them literally all day, for everything. I turn them on in the morning and they pair immediately to my phone, so I can listen to podcasts on my commute; at the office, I turn off the bluetooth on my phone and they immediately pair with my main work computer; back to my phone on the way home, and I plug them in via USB to my home computer to use with that and charge at the same time; finally, if I feel like playing with my synthesizers, they can plug into my mixer via 3.5mm (which is also helpful if the battery ever dies, but with a ~10 hour lifespan in my experience, that doesn't happen much). Not to mention they come with a male/male 3.5mm cable and a standard USB cable, which most people will have lying around anyway, but is a nice touch ('cables not included' is quickly becoming the 'batteries not included' of this generation).
They have easy to use control buttons on the right side for play/pause, volume and forward/back, the band is very adjustable (I have a huge head and no complaints, same goes for a friend of mine who owns the same model and has a tiny head) and they switch automatically to whatever source they're connected to that's playing media (i.e. if they're connected via bluetooth to your phone and via usb to your computer, pressing play on either source will automatically work). The only criticisms I have for them are that the included microphone is garbage, so don't expect to be taking calls with them (even though that's an advertised feature), the UI is a little confusing until you get the hang of it (you pretty much have to learn to intuit what the assortment of beeps and light flashes it produces mean, and the included manual isn't very helpful) and there's no way to tell if they've paired successfully while you're wearing them (only indication is the LED on the side or checking the host device, some kind of Success! tone would be nice). Those are pretty minor complaints for me though, and at a 50$CAD price point, I'm more than willing to live with them.
Just to be clear, I do not work for the company that makes these, nobody's paid me to post this, I just genuinely love these headphones and think everyone should have a pair. They're the opposite of proprietary connectivity, in that, like your mom, they're open to anything.
Not really sure what you mean by "don't want to spend to much" but I have a set of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411182736&sr=8-1&keywords=klipsh+2.1
Klipsch 2.1 Pro Media THX Certified. They sound great for both movies and music alike.
The have a headphone jack on the right speaker, which also has the main volume and subwoofer controls - They are LOUD, sound incredible, powered subwoofer with a built in quality preamp which allows even a mediocre soundcard to push these and sound great (my Macbook Air sounds great with these) and I believe I paid $150 for my set; you may be able to find a set for cheaper online.
edit: a word
I have the TDK Life on Record A33 and I do not recommend it.
It has great bass for the small size, but the high end is extremely lacking. I can't understand how this got through quality control.
There is practically no stereo separation or 'soundstage'. It might as well just be mono.
Also the speakerphone function doesn't work. Pre-set volume is way too low and I can't see any way to increase it.
I would definitely recommend the Logitech bluetooth speaker
my friend has one and it sounds super (best when plugged into ac, on battery the bass drops out a bit). it's a little bigger but so what it's the sound that matters. I wish I would have got that one. In fact now that I'm writing this I think I'm going to sell the TDK and get the logitech. I just can't stand the TDKs lack of highs.
I'd give retropie a shot. It's pretty easy and you end up with something that's a pile of fun. I'll just copy/paste a post I made a while back about it. Though you don't actually need a rpi3, earlier models don't do as well with N64/PSX stuff.
Essentially, you need:
You'll also need either a keyboard so you can type in the password for your wifi to move files over, a usb stick to move files over, or an ethernet cable... to move files over. All of the methods are straightforward but I'd just use wifi, as it will automatically share out the directories you'll want to move files into.
Download the Retropie image and then use Win32diskimager to write it to your micro SD card. Be very careful to point win32diskimager at the micro sd card. If you point it at your hard drive, you'll be reinstalling windows.
Put the micro sd card into the raspberry pi, plug in the hdmi cable connecting it to your display, plug in the controller, and then plug in the power. Buzz through the retropie setup (youtube will avail you, you're really just selecting a couple menu options and hitting 'go') and then either connect to your wifi or plug in a USB stick to prep for transferring files.
After that, everything is near enough automatic. You just need the game roms (games,) and the bios files for (some, not all require them) systems you want to run the games on. At that point we're getting into a legal grey area, so I definitely don't recommend you use google to search for them on a site like emuparadise. Telling you to do that would be against the law, and I think also the reddit terms of service.
Once you have those files, the ones you legally already had, I'm sure, you put them in the appropriate folders (either through wifi, or into the automatically generated folders on the usb stick, which retropie will automatically import after booting.) You hold a button on your controller to configure it, and... that's it, really. Unless you tripped up somewhere a bit, it'll just work.
I've been using these Sony MDRXB950BT Heaphones for a while, they're fantastic if you want something Bluetooth with an especially good bass response. I love 'em. I also have a pair of Jaybird X3 wireless earbuds, and I absolutely love them as well.
I have these. They are the best headphones i ever had. The price/quality ratio is amazing. Also the battery is also super good. I use it for at least 3 hours each day and only have to charge them every 10 days or so. The sound quality and isolation are also great for that price.
I bought the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 for train rides to the city. Reviews said they were as good as the Bose or better, for less than 1/2 the price. I'd say that's spot on. Very comfortable for long periods, great sound, good noise canceling (but maybe a notch below the Bose).

http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HAFX1X-Headphone-Xtreme-Xplosivs/dp/B004S7Q8CA
These are the greatest earbuds i have ever had. Their drivers are huge, making the audio quality and bass quality amazing. Also they are $30 and are completely worth it as the only earbuds which have come close to the quality of these are more than $70. They are amazing.
Foscam FI8910W, $78 USD. Make sure to get black, not white. (The white has an annoying blinking green LED inside that you can see through the white plastic in the dark and is annoying.)
We're using it as a baby monitor but I also had it set to record and email me photos (and text alarm) when it saw motion while we were on vacation. It can do pan-tilt patrolling too. It is excellent IR in the dark and good colour with lights on. It has a built-in server, audio, microphone, wireless, audio in and out as well if needed, mounting system, and is supported in most surveillance software including on Android, iOS, and Blackberry.
I use these at the minute and theyre great! Can't recommend Anker products enough, amazing value, and great build quality
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N6DC2ZE/
I highly second this. I got one on ebay for $35 and it works great, worth full price after having it for a while. So much better than the little can style units. And if you plug it in it has a louder, fuller sound.
Edit: sorry, I realized I have a different Logitech model. This one. I really like it though, great quality sound at low to medium levels, doesn't get too loud but great for an average size room.
I really like these bluetooth headphones. They are comfortable and have good sound and range. The Voice command, and music controls have worked on both my iphone and samsung galaxy s2.
At $30 bucks you'd be hard pressed to find a better value.
2nd vote for the Shures. Shure have a name in the professional line of audio equipment. So if you are willing to spend a few extra bucks for a pair of earbuds, you won't regret it. The se215's are their entry model and pack a decent punch.
I've been using Shures for probably 4 years now. And absolutely love their new cable design. The ability to detach the ear peice from the cable make it much easier to replace the cables later. In all the years of having Shures' the weakest link was the piece of cable that went over your ear. This always started to crack. Which I put electrical tape to extend the life of it a bit. But then the cable would start to short. Shure replaced 2 of my headphones free of charge while they were under warranty. But now I can just get a new cable for $35.
the "fancy" headphone in the store are normally just cheap headphones with a logo.
I just don't get how you can't keep track of something like a set of headphone? Even earbuds are pretty each to keep track of
EDIT: forgot to mention....there are plenty of good headphones, you just don't always find them in places like bestbuy and walmart.
shure se215
Etymotic Research HF5
Boogie board sync. Makes taking notes super easy and effective used one last semester and I think everyone should have one. http://www.amazon.com/Boogie-Board-9-7-Inch-eWriter-ST1020001/dp/B00E8CIGCA
I got these...Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Closed-Back Headphones - Wired...$100 and I love them.
*edit: And they fit my giant head.
This is all so dumb. Buy a pair of these and save your money. If you want good sound buy a nice pair of headphones, not earbuds.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0721MP41Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jW3hDbFHYCH6S
My wife got these for me for Christmas and they are the best headphones I have ever owned. Not noise-cancelling but great isolation and very comfortable. Sound quality is great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MCHE38O/
Hey...a few questions for you if you dont mind:
I just checked out Craigslist in my area...would something like this be a good deal?
Would I be able to hook them up to a computer/media server?
Are speakers like the Technics I linked off Craigslist a completely different use case than the other speakers mentioned in this thread? Like, would these work for a TV, or for a computer? Would I want a separate systems?
I did this in my '08 Chevy impala. Use this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004CLYJ2I/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
All you have to do is plug in the cigarette lighter the and the aux plug. Read the instructions. It's fairly simple and useful. Also it can answer calls so you don't have to switch between stuff.
For extra win you can grab an NFC tag and you can program it to connect your phone and any other phone to it automatically so your friends and use their music if you want.
Source: my setup
If you have any questions whatsoever feel free to ask!! :-)
I definitely wouldn't pay $120 or whatever they're asking on there, but you can get the same copter in white for $60 here. I've only used a few other $50-100 quadcopters but I'd definitely recommend the Syma X5C.
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's can be had for around $150 and they're just delightful
edit: link http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO
and i've owned these on two seperate occasions and loved em both times
I really want one of these. I'm a teacher so it would definitely get used. Also would be great for a high school or college student.

I recently did a fair bit of research before changing from wired to Bluetooth Headphones.
I ended up with buying August EP650. Currently @ $53 on Amazon. Here is a trusty review on youtube as the same person reviews a lot of headphones on youtube.
There's also a pouch/bag that can be bought separately and I highly recommend it.
I'd rather recommend something like the Syma X5C, 60$, 1280 X 720 Picture and Video at 30 frames
, very fun.
Really good pair. Recommended them to alot of friends and they prefer them over some of the cheaper ones they brought in the past.

This mf is pretty perfect
Put the second monitor on a lazy Susan on the edge of his desk so he can rotate the screen and watch Netflix in bed on his computer. Should only cost $2 and vastly increases quality of life :D

-- Go to a pawn shop and get a third computer monitor (make sure his gfx card can handle it)
-- USB can cooler or 'hot plate' that keeps either your can of beer cool or your coffee warm
Anything with a link I own and definitely recommend.
It's a cost vs effectiveness thing for me. Most bluetooth headphones cost an arm and a leg. These are $27 and sound great for the price. Considering it completely gets rid of wires, work about 8 hours on a single charge (I own a pair so this is personal experience) and also works as a phone headset so you can also make calls with it on, I would say it definitely is worth its pricetag.
I do get lag sometimes with various video stuff (mostly streaming websites and sometimes youtube, Netflix is very mild lag off and on) I honestly would rather have these than wired headphones for my daily commute.
I've had good luck with the JCV Extreme Explosives
They're on sale on Amazon all the time (under $30.00 usually from $40.00 retail)
I second the Foscam wireless IP camera, $75 once is a lot better than paying a monthly fee from my security system, that's for sure.
What's your definition of "cheapish"?? I bought these for $100 and I've been really happy. They also have a replaceable cord, which is sweet. I got real sick of buying those $20-$50 earphones, only to have the cord break after a month. I've had these for over a year now and the cord is still sturdy, but it's nice to know that I wouldn't have to spend another $100 if the cord breaks.
Better Amazon link
I'm not sure if yours was a mobile link, or it's just my browser, just trying to help people out, hope I didn't offend.
I bought this Kinivo headset and I was not disappointed. They have a really good sound for $30 and the charge lasts a very long time.
Only bad things are they probably not going to be good for you if you have a big head and when the battery starts dying it lets you know very annoyingly by beeping over your tunes every 10 seconds or so.
Other than that, very satisfied especially for the price.
I have these, they're pretty sweet
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6DC2ZE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_8.uJBbZME7AEZ
Can anyone recommend me some good wireless earbuds for under $40? I’m looking for ones with magnetic connections and a mic/controls. I’m currently looking at these
Have a pair of ATH-ANC7B's that I use for trips. The only problem with active noise cancelling headphones is they only drown out constant background noise. Think road, engine, A/C sounds. They actually make it much easier to hear someone talking to you. Granted if you are listening to music or whatever then that isn't much of a problem. Most closed, over the ear, headphones will do well for what you want but earbuds may be a better choice. I've never been able to find a pair that fit in my ear quite right though. They always fall out or develop an odd muffle to the audio.
Portable power bank for charging of phones, tablets, other gadgets? Most of them power you devices through a usb (Type A to be specific) port. Usb ports when working correctly should put out about 5v. You might be thinking of a power bank that has different different amps in which case you will find ~2.1a and ~1a. Most devices should be able to handle the 2.1a charging port, but check to make sure. Modern gadgets usually have over load protectors and such to prevent damage from too high of a current.
If I were to recommend one it would be this one by Anker link[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005X1Y7I2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tfUuxb8N8M0R3]
It should be able to provide your phone with about 1 full charge per day.
In regards to how much power a power bank can store look at the mAh or MilliAmps per Hour. The average smart phone today has between a 2500mAh battery and a 3100mAh battery.
I'd go for the
JVC Xtreme Xplosive
Really great pair
In my room I have the Lepai LP-A68 ($24) hooked up to a set of Bose Model 21 speakers. I got those from my brother for free.
If you can't get free speakers, the Dayton Audio B652 ($35) gets great reviews.
So for ~$60 you can get a decent setup, but with no sub it does lack bass.
I have the Klipsch ProMedia ($140) hooked up to my desktop, and those sound fantastic. It'll cost you a bit more, but it's a mind numbing value because these speakers get loud.
The Shure SE215-K seem to be popular and have a replaceable cord. They are, however, expensive.
You could look for a pair that has a removable cable like this one. I'm shure there's some cheaper clones out there.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-984-000181-Bluetooth-Wireless-Speaker/dp/B005KQ2O26
I love these guys
I feel like the Boogie Board Sync does the same thing for like $80.
This is outside your budget, but not much: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-984-000181-Bluetooth-Wireless-Speaker/dp/B005KQ2O26
Although it has an internal battery and can be portable, it actually sounds better with the power plugged in (adds more power to the base).
I've bought 8 of these and they have all been solid so far (about 9 months). The best thing I can say is that I can reliably pull off every Street Fighter move.
Only bummer is that they used to be 12.99 last year and now they've gone up in price.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002B9XB0E
I have 2 of them too. There is a new version out:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZP8UOW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=product03c-20
I just ordered them in a 2 pack (saves $20 over individual). They claim it helps with the weird colors and deals with overly bright situations. But the description says it's a mechanical filter, so I don't know if that means more moving parts to break or not...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014ZO46LK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.1emDbTTMSNTQ
It's a pretty big one. I got it so I could charge all my devices without much worry.
yes! I have that! hold on let me find it
is this what you're looking for?
Here you go less than half of the price ($60), and almost twice the power (20,100mah) and it charges the same amount of devices with 2 USB Type A and 1 USB type C outputs.
Alternatively this one is 26,800mah (the largest size you can take on a plane) and has Qualcomm 3.0 charging and costs $70.
Both also have technologies to make sure your devices recognize it as a charging source so that they will charge a full speed.
And a free 18 month warranty
Hey, I'm looking for a good quad copter with a built in camera, suggestions would be great. I'm currently looking at the Syma X5C due to it's cost and HD camera. I have a 200$ budget but would prefer something Cheeper if possible.
Link for the Syma: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KI03U8Q/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/189-0218804-5629650#
Foscam. Has pan/tilt, infrared, and the quality is good, not license plate reading from 20 yards good but it suits most peoples needs. There are some youtube videos of it if you want to see it in action.
There's ones for $85, free shipping

here you go friend
This has had such a huge impact. I have a crappy phone now (soon to change) where the battery dies maybe 3/4 of the way through the day. I picked up this pocket-sized 3200mAh battery for pretty cheap. It charges my phone to full from empty at least once, after accounting for charging limits and power loss and such, and is pocket sized. I got a bigger version for my work bag, in case I'm at a client site for a couple of days and don't have access to an outlet. It's a pretty good conversation starter too, come to think of it.
It's made me a lot less afraid to live the untethered life.
This is probably not the answer you're looking for, but my office bought us Audio-Technica noise-cancelling headphones that kind of bite. They randomly work/don't work/work on one side only and barely cancel out noise to begin with. So 1, don't buy those, and 2, my solution is to wear my earbuds which are incredible IMO and then to play pink noise. The JLAB earbuds cancel a bit of noise to begin with because of the suction, so even when you're listening to music you can barely hear what's going on around you.
kinivo BT220's break the mould. reliable, durable, simple and very dynamic. and inexpensive.
Using a droid turbo 2, which has the nice option of taking 4k video (as do most new phones). I have a
210200GB SD card got for $40 USD (half price sale when bought), so figure why not.More like 50 bucks max.

I like it because it's so small, rechargable via usb, and back lit keyboard.
It's cheap too, I got mine for less then $20 shipped.

powerpoint presentations that fit in your pocket without having to convert to another format. That, coupled with a $20 mini keyboard/trackpad for $25 and you've got everything you need in your pocket.
> To be fair, I did exactly that and the product was an off-brand piece of shit.
Just don't buy from an off-brand. There are plenty of name brand external batteries, like this one, or this one, or even this one. Notice that they're all name brands (in terms of battery packs) and they all have at least a 4 star review. It's just a matter of knowing what you want, and doing a bit of research.
You cannot go wrong with these guys. I use them for so much stuff.

Ah, more money to spend then, great.
Edit: also if you mean a card like this https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-200GB-Micro-SDSDQUAN-200G-G4A/dp/B00V62XBQQ be aware it doesn't really blow any HDD. Speeds are great(90MB/s read) sure but nothing that blows it away while still being 5x more expensive than an HDD in price per GB. Btw, don't mistake this as me wanting an HDD in the Switch, that would be extremely dumb. Just that 32GB is extremely limited and after buying a console I really don't want to have to buy a microSD card so I can actually store things in it. Still, better have the option than to not have
Twist ties and zip ties are garbage and seem to be the bane of /r/cableporn. What you really want is velcro ties. They're reusable, durable, a lot faster to use, and not that that expensive.
Here is the complete starter kit with everything you need for $75
or
You can also buy it on Amazon for a bit less.
The only thing you will need that's not in the kit are the ROMs and controllers. The ROMs you can find practically anywhere online.
For controllers, I splurged on a couple of Buffalo USB SNES controllers for the nostalgia, but any bluetooth or USB controller will work.
You're not looking very hard then. I got a pair of these for $90 on ebay.

If 14-20 hours isn't enough for you, then you can use them with a 3.5mm cable, and charge them while you're listening to music with a portable charger.
I have a portable charger about the size of a tube of lipstick and it's enough to charge it fully while I continue listening with a 3.5mm cable.
I don't see anything saying it handles 100 watts with USB C-C charging on the Amazon page or anywhere else. I'm seeing 5V/3A, which is 15 watts.
I actually haven't been able to find a powerbank that can reach 45W and also go on a plane.
Boogies Board Sync, hands down the coolest sketching/writing tablet to date.

These ones? I'd rather not have a wire at all.
If we are discussing the same model BTH220, I did not realize the inbuilt mic. exists/works. I'll have to check it out further, but the few times when I picked up a call, the caller could not hear me.

My understanding is the Li-ion batteries must be in carry on (not checked) unless they are are part of some other equipment (eg: a laptop). source
So that battery wouldn't be allowed at all.
I have one of these, which is 100Wh so it's (barely) allowed in carry on.

I didn't realize I was obliged to provide a suggestion. Here you go:
Sennheiser HD 380 PRO
Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7B
Here's a 200GB Micro SD card for $78. Now compare that to iPhone's +$200 premium for the same amount of storage.
Or you could almost double it for the same price

Syma x5C
Sorry i think there was confusion here, I was talking about headphones and you were talking about cell phones.
The second review on this page addresses a consistently recurring issue that Sony not only refuses to respond to, but also refuses to cover in their warranty.
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRXB950BT-Extra-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00MCHE38O/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1511885567&sr=8-6&keywords=bluetooth+earphones+sony
That's true! Though I'd argue that the charging is marginal, especially when both the device and headphones can charge off the same kind of wire. And 5m of charging will give a solid two hours of listening time. Bluetooth also has gotten much less power hungry in the last half-decade.
I have two pairs myself. A 600$ pair of Bowers and Wilkins, and these guys off Amazon that are often on sale for 40$ and I gotta say, I'm 90% as happy with the cheap ones.
The difference in comfort and immersion is indescribable. Wires suck. Tripping over wires sucks. Untangling wires sucks. Stripping the 3.5mm jack over a thousand or so plugs and unplugs sucks.
Noise cancelling requirements?
MUST they be earbuds (not headphones?)?
My 5 minutes of research yields this for you.
Looking for a MP3 player to pair with these headphones.
Needs to be:
Sweat/light rain proof
Dirt resistant
Decent storage/expandability
Large battery
Bluetooth (pref 5.0)
Cheap as possible.
If it doesn't have to be surround, the Klipsch ProMedia system is hard to beat for the price.
Personally, I'd rather have a half-decent stereo setup than a shitty surround one.

edit * oops im an idiot, and saw that you DONT want a keyboard, ignore me.
Batteries are terrible...in everything. I don't know how people survive with all their devices without an Anker. This thing is the size of a tube of lipstick and can charge your Moto 10 times. Power problem solved...now let's just talk about how they lied to us.
Interesting! I've been using their cable-tie product, but one of my complaints about it is that it is a little too grippy. Plus, the fixed 8-inch length is a bit much for most of my cables, whereas the plant ties come in a roll that requires you to cut off exactly however much you need.
This version of the plant-tie product includes a built-in cutter in the package (according to the description), so that may be preferable for those who don't want to keep a pair of scissors next to their cable ties.
