## Monitor related issues

(Very very helpful, the default resolution of 2560x1080 looks fairly small and at the time I couldn't get higher resolution) https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/anyone-got-the-lg-34-34wk95u-monitor-working-on-hackintosh.264526/page-4

## Things don't work yet:

The monitor has integrated speakers, but for some reasons I have like 6 HDMI audio outputs but none of them work. The audio device of RX580 is also passed to the guest, so I am a little stuck. Any help?

Also, need to figure out Bluetooth.

Got any ideas for budget? Also, what software will you be using and what bitrate, resolution and general quality settings are you planning on encoding at? Is it also a necessity for 32GB of RAM? You would probably be able to save a good chunk of money to put towards other parts if you went with 16 or perhaps 24.

---

I'm not sure on the display outputs of the GTX 480, however running 3 monitors off of that and one off your onboard graphics chip you should be good to go (aslong as the connections aren't VGA, as corpnewt mentioned; it's quite hit-and-miss). For onboard graphics I'd recommend a motherboard with a HD530 chip, they're pretty well supported and off the top of my head require 2 bootflags to get working.

---

In terms of motherboards it's not particularly my forte, so I may be wrong on some of these things. I think it's generally accepted that Gigabyte motherboards are the best for hackintoshing and are all round great boards, so I'd definitely recommend one. As I said you'd probably want a board with a HD530 chip, or another chip with similar support. Assuming you want 32 gig of RAM you're gonna need support for that, and if you go for 16 for now you still might want to go for a board that supports 32 incase you decide to upgrade in the future or if 16 is not enough. I'd also recommend the 115x chipset as imo is going to give you the most choices on CPU with the best compatibility. After some talks with /u/CorpNewt he suggested this Gigabyte board. It's got enough PCI-E slots, supported onboard graphics (HD530), support for 64gb of RAM, ThunderBolt and good hackintosh support which should check all the boxes.

---

CPU? 6700k; 4 cores, 8 threads, 4.0Ghz clock speed, it's overclockability gives you some headroom if you ever need a bump in performance, the most powerful CPU you can get on Skylake currently (yes the enthusiast CPU's are round the corner but they are silly money and this should be plenty of power), great longevity, and most of all have good OSX support.

---

The CPU can be found here. You're gonna want a cooler such as a Hyper 212 Evo or a Corsair H55 AIO (I can vouch for this cooler, have one myself and it's great). If you plan on overclocking or want to just in case, you should probably look at something a bit beefier like a Corsair H100i AIO.

The mobo can be found here.

Feel free to fire away with any questions you have.

The MSI B360 boards require a few different KEXT files than other boards if memory serves, but it's still the same chipset, and mostly the same install process.

Required: FakeSMC, IntelMausiEthernet, Lilu (AMD GPU), USBInjectAll (You'll want a custom DSDT for this later, but for install and first few uses, this works fine.), WhateverGreen (AMD GPU)

If using Nvidia GPU, you may need EmuVariableUefi-64.efi. You can have display output without the Nvidia Web Drivers, but you will have artifacts and no acceleration. Install the web drivers, and reboot. Should work flawlessly.

MSI boards almost always will require OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi.

Boot flags I used for High Sierra (I've since upgraded to Mojave with no effort necessary): dart=0, darkwake=0, -rad24 (Using RX580), UseKernelCache=No (Seems mandatory on my MSI B360 board.), busratio=35, -lilubetaall

Updating: Depending on the update, you may need to reinstall whatever KEXT you use for Audio, and sometimes, though rarely ethernet. I use a WiFi/Bluetooth Combo card now, so I don't have the Ethernet/Wifi issues some users have. It's generally best practice to wait to update until you see at least a few success stories from other Hackintoshers, and always, always, ALWAYS have a fresh backup of your drive, and EFI partition (Read: Get Carbon Copy Cloner and a dedicated drive to back your Hack up) before you run any update, ever. Some point updates will be flawless, with nothing else needed, and some could break your install. It has never happened to me (yet), but I have heard some stories. Nature of the beast. :)

/r/BuildaPC has some good advice, but here's some tips- an i5 4690k is possibly the best processor you can get, and it's a little cheaper. Are you planning on getting a graphics card eventually? If so I'd suggest a GTX 770 or 780. PSU wise I'd suggest getting one more trustworthy, such as a Corsair CX750M. It's about the same price, semi-modular, and will future proof you in case you upgrade.

u/vanimox · 3 pointsr/hackintosh

This is a good build, I would go with this. Although there is one essential thing missing. The wifi bluetooth adaptor so you can use handoff, iMessage, airplay, etc. like a true mac.

I recommend this adapter, it is the one I used in my hackintosh, and although a little pricy, it is plug and play.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012LOT512/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also if you want to do a dual or triple boot, this will work with both Ubuntu and Windows.

Good Luck!

u/wormyrocks · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Is there a functional difference between this motherboard, which is on the recommended list, and this motherboard, which isn't, aside from the fact that the latter motherboard is smaller?

I'm curious because I would like to build a mATX machine, and because the latter motherboard is in stock at a Micro Center near my house.

Also, how picky is a Hackintosh build about RAM? Do I necessarily have to use Corsair Vengeance sticks for best performance, or will something like this work just as well?

u/autoturk · 3 pointsr/hackintosh

I have a similar board. I would first remove the wifi adapter you have on there now to avoid any incompatibilities.

If you are not under a tight budget, I would get the following:

  1. An original BCM94360CD card from Ebay. This is an original Apple part with Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac wifi. Just search for it and you should find one. Should be about $30. If you want the latest and greatest with slightly better bluetooth, this BCM943602CDP card will also work though I can't guarantee it'll fit in the adapter below -- it should though. I have this card.
  2. I haven't tried this adapter, but it looks pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Shaluoman-BCM94360CD-BCM94331CD-PCI-Adapter/dp/B0762N2R2R/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1550134749&sr=1-10&keywords=bcm94360cd

A lot of folks recommend a Fenvi T919 which is basically a BCM94360cd in a similar adapter to the above. I don't recommend it though -- I had some trouble with their adapter and sleep that got resolved when I switched to something similar to the one above. If you want to give it a shot regardless they are sold on Newegg.
u/Stingray88 · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Well, K series are only available in the top end i5 or i7 respectively, so you're already looking at faster clock speeds even if you don't overclock it. Personally, giving how incredibly easy it is to overclock even to just 4.0GHz using the stock air cooler… I think it's worth it. I think you should get an i5 4690K.

As far as what motherboard to buy, I'd get one from this list. All of them should be easily hackintoshable, so whatever you choose is based on your preferences and budget.

u/djsdotcom · 3 pointsr/hackintosh

Hey there, a couple answers:

I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator CC without any hitches for a few weeks now on my new Hackintosh. Didn't have to do anything special to get them to run at all, just logged into my CC account once the Hack was up and running and downloaded everything that was needed.

I have a GTX 950 and a U3415 (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-34-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00PXYRMPE) that work perfectly in my setup. I have the latest Nvidia drivers for it but that's a given, you're going to have to do that for your GPU no matter what monitor you select. I have it connected over a full-size DisplayLink cable and it pushes it at 60hz which is perfect and what I wanted. Your card is beefier than mine so I can't imagine any issues as long as you get the right drivers for it. BTW if you drive the monitor over HDMI it won't go faster than 30hz which is pretty annoying, you gotta get the DisplayLink cable for maximum throughput and refresh rate.

Obviously you chose to have some spinning hard drives for a reason, so take this advice with a grain of salt, but you could obviously save some money by ditching them and perhaps going with a larger SSD.

I recently wrote about my build here... doesn't get into the technical details much, but let me know if I can answer any more questions about it. I'm using it for iOS design & development so we probably have similar needs.

u/Duamerthrax · 3 pointsr/hackintosh

Ok, it's been a while since I researched this. I can tell you that all the cards work though. If I remember correctly, this card is the best for 4 internal ports. This one if you only have a 1x slot available. And this one if you also want some eSATA ports

I have all these cards in my Hackintosh I'm typing on right now without any drivers. They all support hot swap as well.

u/Guanfranco · 1 pointr/hackintosh

@Default_Value Thanks for the reply mate!

I read on Tonymac's website that the new AMD cards may have compatibility issues - " As of macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, Apple has added support for the following AMD graphics cards. Please note these cards have only very recently become officially supported and may be more complicated to configure than NVIDIA graphics cards. "

Any recommended RX 580s? I found those 2 on Amazon. Prices differ wildly. Not exactly sure why since they're from the same line.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BQK8YV4/

I don't know if we really need the liquid cooling especially if I'm going with a cheaper CPU/GPU and won't be overclocking. I think I'll stick to air cooling like you say but I'll have to look into it more. The maintenance and set up for the liquid cooling looks to be beyond my expertise already. I thought the self-contained sealed liquid cooling kits like the CORSAIR Hydro H55 were a superior alternative to air cooling. I'm guessing I was wrong on that assumption.

u/johnthedebs · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

If you go with the Samsung NVMe SSD you'll need to hack support into one of the system's built-in kexts which is a recipe for headaches. Better off going with something like https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-OCZ-RD400-Solid-RVD400-M22280-512G/dp/B01G3HLOYY/ which (from what I understand) can be formatted to work with the native macOS NVMe driver.

Looks good otherwise!

u/TheGeneral696 · 1 pointr/hackintosh

You don't need to pay that much, most people (myself included) have an SSD + HDD setup so that the OS and applications can go on the SSD, and games/media/documents go on the HDD, where read times are much less important.

It's not just booting, every application is open before the dock bounce animation ends. Wake from sleep is much more responsive, and nothing ever has to load.

I recommend this 250 GB SSD, great performace for about $130. I use it with the same 3TB drive that you have in my desktop.

u/shiggitay · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

I've used several SATA PCI-E x1 cards in my hacks. Ppl on TMx86 can tell you what ones work, but here's one I got recently and it works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AZ9T3OU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. There's also an 8 port version but it's like $90... of which wasn't in my budget when I got it.

u/notdedicated · 8 pointsr/hackintosh

Some mother boards, like my Gigabyte GA-Z170-Ultra Gaming supports an addon card like https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0722SV69N/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1 which is an Alpine Ridge TB3 chipset which is what Apple uses. Asus also has an Alpine Ridge addon card. This was the easiest way for me to get TB3 into my hack.

u/OmgItsTheSmartGuy · 3 pointsr/hackintosh

Very few people actually need 16 GB of RAM, but I guess that's up to you.

As for the motherboard, I would recommend getting a GA-Z77-DS3H instead. The GA-Z68AP-D3 was originally designed for Sandy Bridge processors rather than Ivy Bridge processors; though a BIOS update should fix this, the GA-Z77-DS3H may be a safer choice.

u/corpnewt · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Hey man - that wifi card will work, but - because it's designed for use in actual Apple machines - it's got a different connector. You'll have to use an adapter like this to get it to fit in your mini pci slot.

I have one running via an adapter in my PCIe x1 slot right now - great card. Also - if you need the Windows drivers for it, send me a PM (or take a look at Brigadier).

u/appdev980 · 1 pointr/hackintosh

I just purchased this one for my new machine and it works flawlessly: fenvi T919 for macOS PC PCI WiFi... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VCCZS54?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have Bluetooth and WiFi off that one chip although I did have to disable 2.4Ghz WiFi on my router due to interference with that chip (speed was super slow until the disable)

Judging by the dimensions of the photo, looks like a high-end ultrawide. This one from Amazon has the same resolution, but LG and a few others also make similar monitors. They aren't cheap, but they look stunning.

u/torokunai · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

Nice. $200 for a M/B is pretty steep tho!

$200 for a 256GB SATA SSD isn't a deal when you can get a 512GB RD400 M.2 SSD from amazon for $240

(RD400 can be configured to be OOB-compatible with MacOS, it just needs to be in 4k LBA sector format with OCZ's SSD Utility)

I've got a similar Kaby Lake setup in my newegg cart for when Vega OEM cards are available, to go into this case:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108530

Not terribly happy with not being able to install the 10.13 betas due to no GTX drivers so am looking forward to going back to the Radeon.

But if Vega availability is delayed due to the "miners" I might go with the 300-series motherboards with a Coffee Lake CPU instead.

These add another 2 cores at the same pricepoints apparently. Not sure how quick Hacks will support this weirdness, but it shouldn't take too long.

Hey, thanks for trying to help me out. Much appreciated. My GPU is a EVGA Geforce GT 610: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00847TOLC/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Not sure if this is relevant to you but I have the bootflag npci=0x2000 in order to have the card function well.

Not sure what you mean by onboard or hdmi audio but I would lean toward it being onboard. I think I remember having to install some realtek drivers to get sound working.

My BIOS version is F7 (just updated from F5 today in the hopes that that would solve my issue).

Truth be told I'm not very adept at this hackintosh stuff, and I don't totally understand some of the concepts, such as dsdt. Essentially I've gotten to where I am through extensive googling and troubleshooting but my actual understanding of what I'm doing is not very great. I've heard about patching dsdt but up until now I've kind of avoided it due to the fear of it being too complicated. Plus I've been working on my hackintosh for a few months now so I'm hesitant to make a major change without knowing what I'm doing. But if you can walk me through the dsdt process then I'm all ears.

It depends on which model you get. For PCIe it's pretty straightforward and are usually included - see this for an example.

If you need mini-PCIe, then you need four U.FL to RP-SMA adapters and four antennas (like this 2-pack)

PC/Hackintosh - Handoff and Continuity - OSXWiFi - Apple Broadcom BCM94360CD - 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC with Bluetooth 4.0 OS X Yosemite 10.10+ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012LOT512/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_AgKIzbNPF0Y1E

I have this card working in a system right now.

Alternatively I also have this working in a system

https://www.ebay.com/itm/251723761338

Both of these natively support handoff, continuity, and Instant Hotspot

u/sorry_I_said_that · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

I've got the GA-H87N-WIFI and while bluetooth worked natively with the included card, WiFi did not.

Then I ordered a BCM94360CD from a Late 2013 iMac and a Mini PCI-E adapter and I've got native bluetooth and wifi with full Handoff/Continuity functionality without any other changes necessary.

Wireless Apple Keyboard and Magic Mouse work in BIOS and everything. Getting them to work in Windows has been hit and miss, but installing the Boot Camp drivers allowed me to use them seamlessly between boots at one point.

If you go the native card route, probably will need to add extra antennas to get decent WiFi performance since your motherboard will only come with two antennas. BCM94360CD has 3 WiFi and 1 bluetooth antennas, although just plugging in to the two center ports is enough for basic continuity/handoff functionality.

I'm not sure if there are any non-native wifi/bluetooth cards that Continuity will accept, but you might be able to get a Broadcom card working as long as you have Bluetooth 4.0 and use this activation tool. Intel cards are a bust.

would you recommend the GA-Z77-DS3H instead?

u/toshmatik · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Actually there doesn't seem to be any genuine card on eBay.
I think this is the adapter /u/corpnewt recommends.

And this is the card but it's currently unavailable... still osxwifi.com?

Edit: Maybe those are genuine too:

u/foxh8er · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Hmm..that's the one I was considering.

What would be the recommended Mobo then?

u/yabusa · 1 pointr/hackintosh

You can grab a regular motherboard as I’m not sure if many have thunderbolt 3 ports. You can always grab something like this for tb3 access if you have an available slot on the motherboard.

also have a Z800 hackintosh (x5675, 48GB ram) and would recommend the following that work OOB in Sierra 10.12.6, no extra kexts needed.

  1. Add USB3.0 ports and possible future expansion to a front panel using this

  2. Add Sata 3 (6GB/s) capability to this monster using this.
u/skylined45 · 1 pointr/hackintosh

This card with this PCI adapter worked out of the box for me, for both bluetooth and wifi, with no configuring. Would recommend. It's a little more expensive but you won't spend a week trying to figure out how to get your cheaper card/dongle to work.

You need a PCIe adapter like this in order to make it work in a standard PCIe port on your mobo.

I don't endorse that particular product, as I bought mine as an all-in-one package (the Broadcom card and the adapter already assembled). It was just the first result when searching Amazon for just the adapter. There are many others, I would suggest checking the reviews.

u/tartantangents · 1 pointr/hackintosh

From the Amazon product page:
>Intel 8260 Wireless

Intel wireless isn't supported on OS X. I would go with TonyMacx86's pick for the TP-Link Archer T8E.

u/riise_bratte · 1 pointr/hackintosh

You can get a Dell DW1560. It also has the BCM94352Z chipset and should be available.

And please no USB or similar, you are better off with cards for M.2 and are asking for trouble with USB.

Edit: Should be available and probably more if you search further. And even on AliExpress.

u/sovnade · 1 pointr/hackintosh

There are several WiFi cards you can use. I use this one and it was supported OOB on Mojave. It’s the exact same chipset in the iMac.

Why isn't he recommending the Samsung 840 EVO - it's cheaper than the SanDisk SSDs? Is it not suitable for hackintosh's?

120GB ($99.99): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3W15P0

u/belthesar · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Any reason what-so-ever you're using a slower, older series SSD? The 840 EVO is going to blow that out of the water, and the 250 GB model is cheaper than that 128 GB.

This one. The label on the card will say FV-T919. The CNVi chip is a m.2 network chip on newer Z390 motherboard, so it is not soldered in, you just remove it by unscrewing one screw and unplug the tiny antenna cords from it. Look at your motherboard spec, it may or may not come with any Wifi/BT chip.

I'm on Mojave.

u/badchromosome · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

If budget isn't too much an issue, you can drop in a genuine Apple wifi module mounted to a PCI-E adapter card.

You can also get a PCI-E adapter separately and the scour e-bay/amazon for an Apple module.

There are also some Dell and Broadcom PC laptop WIFI/Bluetooth modules that work in OS X. These will plug right into some mini ITX motherboards that come equipped with an OEM module.

Hey, following up here. I've replaced the wifi m.2 with this broadcom chip and hobby power adapter and I'm failing to get it working in windows 10.

If I can't get it to work, I want to try your method. Can you confirm that this is the card you are using?

and I was getting the replacement card directly from Fenvi China and sent the dead one back to them.

u/Santoxjon · 6 pointsr/hackintosh

I have a T440p (High Sierra and Linux Mint dual boot) also and Wi-Fi isn't working, Lenovo has a whitelist for Hardware, so changing the Wi-Fi card is not that easy. I just use a Wi-Fi dongle -> https://www.amazon.es/TP-LINK-TL-WN823N-adaptador-inalámbrico-10-7-10-11/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=sr_1_3?__mk_es_ES=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=usb%2Bwifi&qid=1564018664&s=computers&sr=1-3&th=1

VGA port is also useless.
