I’ve been to several national parks with my dog and while it is true national parks are often not dog friendly, not all are against hiking with your pup. One off the top of my head is Petrified Forest.
I cannot recommend this book enough. It has a section for ever national park on where you can take your dog, if it’s not entirely limited to paved trails and roads. I’ve had a bit of trouble with keeping the snaps closed on one of the pouches, but think I may have crunched it enough with my multi tool to get it to stay. I went with the rip-away pouches for the Velcro but I’m not sure I’d do it again. That’s one of the main benefits of the molle system, there are tons of pouches out there in different sizes and designs.
Willow is a bit over 50 pounds at present.
There are freeze dried dog patties that are high in calories, lightweight and don't take up much space. I always have extra in my pack.
