Actually, I have an idea, not sure if this is the one you're thinking, but I really like the Kokuyo Systemic Notebook! https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=kokuyo+systemic

I have it in the A5, and if you have a Cousin Avec, I believe you can have it in there along with Kokuyo's Smart Ring notebook (https://www.amazon.com/Kokuyo-Campus-Smart-Ring-Binder/dp/B00BLYJ8LQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536011201&sr=8-1&keywords=kokuyo+smart+ring+a5) I'm not sure if it can fit the non avec version though. My current system has an A5 sized Rhodia dot pad on one side, a Smart Ring notebook on the other, AND, there's still room for one more notebook in the back (which is where I plan on putting my Cousin Avec when I get my paws on one!!).

The Smart Ring notebook is really cool. It's a binder system that's really easy to open and close and you can buy the refills and print on them if you like. I think that hit all the points you were asking for? I know I sound like a Kokuyo salesperson, but I just really love the system is all XD Oh, and guess what? They even have an A6 size ;) (for the cover, but I don't think for the Smart Ring notebook though).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Pardon my horribly messy handwriting. But this is the current journal I’m using:

Nitoms STALOGY 365DaysNotebook A5

The pages are great and it has exactly 365 pages so one for every day if I want to do a daily planner setup. But that doesn’t leave me with any extra for monthly or weekly layouts which would definitely help plan out school assignments and future plans.

Which Hobonichi would work best for what I’m looking for and it there a huge difference in layouts? This one has a very faint daily time stamp along the right side of each page that I don’t use too often unless there’s an appointment for that day.

I bought this cover for an A6 Plain Notebook I’m gifting (supposed to be the same size as one book of an Avec), and it fits fine:

Kokuyo notes for cover A6 transparent Bruno -BUC1T https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002BLGZRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_R4A2Db7MWXQ2Z

There is a little room around the spine with just the Plain Notebook from Hobonichi, and it does fit the full Original Techo more snugly, but it’s still better than attempting anything with the Cover On Cover from hobonichi. The feeling of the above cover is quite smooth and almost silky.

I believe the Midori A6 should also fit, according to JetPens, but it might be in the same boat fit-wise, since I think it can also take a full year Techo or Planner.

How about Raymay? https://www.amazon.com/Raymay-Multi-Use-Covered-Notebook-Black/dp/B005JQ0UWS

I don't have an A5 (mine is B6), but according to reviews, it seems like the Cousin should fit nicely.

If you want to go full weeb, the Pilot Frixion is amazing. It writes really well and can be erased without destroying the paper or just smearing. There are also some Frixion highlighters that also work well.

It's a hell of a lot of money. You could always try out a Stalogy 365 notebook in A5. It's £21 delivered to the UK.

There's a half-year one for £16-ish if you want the thinner Avec style notebook.

Same dimensions as the Cousin, very similar paper. It's a "free" journal so you basically mark the date and such on the page using the pre-printed information. You can start it at any time, which is a nice bonus, and you can also use multiple consecutive pages for a single day if you want, which is a bonus. Oh, and it costs a third of the Cousin.

From the reviews I've read, it's got less of the planner stuff in it but is a bit more flexible. It's supposed to be good quality, though maybe not quite as nice as the Cousin. I've ordered one for myself to try out.

This is a link to the vinyl I used on the outside of the cover.
http://www.amazon.com/Duck-282250-Adhesive-Laminate-Chalkboard/dp/B00MFSQ3EM

It's 20in with and 10 FEET long. We found a roll in a local Staples for half that cost and used some it for another project. Having some left over for the cover was a nice bonus.

I'd recommend Stalogy (A6) over the Hobonichi brand. [Same Tamoe River paper] Thin paper, cheaper, but lacking in the same page template that the Hobonichi has.

So what you're paying for is the extra design that Hobonichi put in. Ask yourself whether the extra Hobonichi page design adds $50 of value on top; if so, get the Hobonichi.

Zebra mild liners, various washi tapes (on the go I like to wrap them around embroidery floss bobbins), pencil board, binder clips, various stickers, small post-its, small/travel pair of scissors, and a glue stick for whatever ephemera I want to paste onto pages.

New for next year, I've added the green Hobonichi stencil, the Zig clean color dots, some stamps (including a couple of the Pilot frixion stamps), Kitta strips, and the Weeks + A6 memo pages (since I'm using a Weeks and A6).

Looks like a droplet (or teardrop) clip. Like this one at amazon.

I use a cover like this.

The cover itself won't add any rigidity to the notebook, but you could cut cardboard or thin plastic to place in side that would give you a harder surface to write on. It is available in other colors, as well. I just searched for Lihit Lab A5 on amazon.

US Amazon still has it here: https://www.amazon.com/Hobonichi-Techo-Cousin-Notebook-January/dp/B01LKZLC78/

The Canadian Amazon only had one listed for resale at over CA$200+

Fair warning, buying from Amazon is kind of hit or miss on whether or not you get the extras.

These work well for me:

Staedtler Textsurfer Dry Highlighter Pencil Yellow (Twin Pack) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B6A4O6O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8QkgAbCTNCSSM

You can order the AVECs from Amazon, they won't be in for a while though. Here is the July - December one, its only been up since May. (that price has gone up a bit too)

Kokuyo makes both an A5 & A6 notebook cover called Systemic. Here is the A6 version.

I second the Lihit Lab idea. I have a Bag-in-Bag (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WMW7MQ/) that I uses to carry the book I'm reading and some extra stationaries, but I imagine you can stuff scissors and stuffs into the main component and carry it around, although it doesn't have elastic bands to hold anything in place.

Also, maybe try this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BD0GPKE/
