I use a number of these Asrock embedded boards for the kinds of things you're describing.

They're significantly more powerful than a Pi, but still only draw about 15W. The Intel iGPU offers up encoding options for video stuff, too. The board, some RAM, a PSU, and a small case are definitely not as cheap as a pi overall but can often be acquired pretty cheap secondhand, at least where I live.

They make great file servers, pfSense boxes, and I've even done them up as ESXi or Hyper-V hosts and then run several VMs on them at once like DC/DNS and a Pihole all in one box for instance.

We understand that Homebridge is daunting for people who don't know Linux, or even heard of it. HOOBS is trying to change that.

We make documentation for HOOBS, but most of it applies to Homebridge as well. This set of docs https://github.com/hoobs-org/HOOBS/wiki/2.5-Installing-from-Scratch will help you setup the system for HOOBS or Homebridge.

---

However if you don't want to setup Linux. You can purchase a Raspberry Pi, case and power supply on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/CanaKit-Raspberry-Premium-Supply-Listed/dp/B01C6EQNNK/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=raspberry+pi&qid=1572280456&sr=8-4

Then you can download and flash an image to a micro SD card. You can download or purchase an SD card from our website https://hoobs.org/. If you don't wish to donate and simply want to download the image, it is on GitHub https://github.com/hoobs-org/HOOBS/releases.

You can flash the HOOBS image using the balinaEtcher. https://www.balena.io/etcher/

---

We also sell the HOOBS Box. It is a Raspberry Pi with Homebridge pre-installed and ready to go. You can also find that on our website. https://hoobs.org/

My gas fireplace had a switch on the wall, so I thought a smart switch would accomplish my goal to add the ability to use Siri to control the fireplace. Realized the switch was a low powered one, not a normal light switch.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00913ATFI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This wired between the switch allowed me to connect to the aeotec z wave hub and works great.

thanks for your reply. So i think this is the device i'm looking for:

https://www.amazon.it/Tomshine-Controller-Regolatore-Luminosit%C3%A0-Controllo/dp/B06Y584C6V/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519123535&sr=8-2&keywords=wifi+led+controller

the description says the output power is
5V ≦ 60W / 12V ≦ 144W / 24V ≦ 288W

so since i have 3 24v led of 150w each i'll have to buy 3 controller, right?

Can it work with white only strips?

Thanks

I use these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0778TNKC6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZVcADb8M4XC63

However it depends on the type of LEDs you use. Mine are cheap RGBW, so they work with this controller. RGBWW would need something like this:

LEDENET Smart WiFi LED Controller 5 Channels Control 4A5CH CW/WW RGB RGBW RGBWW LED light, Timer Music Group Sync Controller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DY56N8U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g1cADbS3ZW97D

What exactly is the issue with yours? Did you ensure they're cloud connected via the magichome app and not just in AP mode?

Yes. This is the motor I installed with my sliding gate:

It’s this one

New Arrival Original Xiaomi Mini... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LX5VHYV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Looks like Xiaomi. I’m using a pi zero w at the moment because I had one. I might move it to a full rpi eventually.

u/payeco · 1 pointr/homebridge

There really isn’t any reason to. The two of the three devices Apple allows as a standard HomeKit hub are wireless only.

Neither of the Zero models have Ethernet built in. However, if you must run them with Ethernet they will work with a USB to Ethernet adapter. If you going to do that you might as well just get the regular Pi Zero. It’s the same specs, minus wireless, for $5. You just need to pick up something like this.

I’ve used this device successfully in my homebridge setup to control my RF ceiling fans. There is a homebridge plug-in available for it.

Presumably it is because your older MyQ is not WiFi enabled. I have two 2015 installed Liftmaster MyQ openers and purchased this MyQ Home Bridge and now I can operate and check the status of my openers from my Apple devices.

Editing to add: Native Homekit support through above linked device, homebridge not needed.

u/SimonIsTaken · 1 pointr/homebridge

I've done what you have suggested and the bridge shows no error. I have then re-added a modified version of the config.json file by removing the accessory that I was trying to add in the first place, this one:

{

"accessory": "MagicHome",

"name": "Desk Lamp",

"ip": "192.168.1.111",

"setup": "RGBW",

"purewhite": false

},

This is the accessory that I want to add https://www.amazon.ca/LEDENET-Smart-Controller-Channels-Control/dp/B01DY56N8U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549919639&sr=8-1&keywords=5+channel+rgbww+wifi+controller

I have relaunched homebridge and now all the other accessories work within HomeKit https://photos.app.goo.gl/DYH1E5hHLnJoAihB8. I don't understand why it works without the accessory above in the config.json file. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help once again!

How about this?

FYI if your only peeve with the Raspberry Pi is that it's headless, you can get a little LED screen that attaches to it, making it no longer headless: https://www.amazon.com/OSOYOO-Monitor-Display-Instructions-Raspberry/dp/B01N447AEY/

u/greggsymington · 2 pointsr/homebridge

How cheap? TP-Link LB100 is $20 on amazon right now.
You should be able to use homebridge-tplink-lightbulb plugin.

I’m home assistant with the home bridge plugin so not sure about home bridge only but I use Energenie MiHomelight switches . They don’t require a neutral and their bridge outputs to mqqt

Perhaps not what you're looking for but if you're primarily just trying to avoid electrical wiring, consider a light socket to plug adaptor. It won't work with all light fixtures but may work for you.

https://www.amazon.com/GE-54178-Socket-Adapter-Outlets/dp/B000TU1W9Y?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2

You can then just plug a camera in.
