This particular pen looks like a dip pen; check out your local art store or hunt around online. They start pretty cheap like this; you then put the nib into a holder, dip it in ink, and make a huge fucking mess everywhere. Then you keep practicing until you can make lovely calligraphy.

You can also get flexible fountain pens. /r/fountainpens for all the fountain pen advice you will every need. Non-flex fountain pens start very cheaply (I love the Jinhao 599 which is under $2 delivered from alixepress and a Platinum Preppry for super fine writing which was AU$7) with flex pens starting out a bit more expensive for a basic modern one and then a few more for a vintage flex nib or custom made flex nib.

Basically, you can choose the price point you want a pen for and there will be something in that range for you, though after a certain point you'd paying for cosmetic design and random diamonds being shoved in and exclusivity rather than a better pen.

Not sure what his name is but the guy who took this picture has an awesome book of other really cool pictures. He was actually the first person to take a picture of a bat in flight as well. From what I remember he set up an ir light that when the bat flew through it the camera would flash and take a picture. Pretty cool stuff.

Edit: I done found it http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0810927179?pc_redir=1405532135&robot_redir=1

Carlos Hathcock is one of the greatest American soldiers to ever put on a uniform. The man is a legend in all military circles.

I read the book about him, Marine Sniper, when I was a teenager and was completely blown away by it.

They need to make a movie about him, considering they don't have to embellish ANYTHING to make it nearly unbelievable.

I started with this one, it's a standard high-quality safety razor that comes with a few replacement razors. Very nice starter.

It's nothing particularly fancy. Some nib (hard to tell because it's covered in ink but one possibility is a Zebra G Nib) and an oblique pen holder (his looks something like this but there are cheaper ones).

I remember picking Marine Sniper about Hathcock for a book report in High School.

/u/Leftest is not exaggerating. It's an unbelievable story about a very honorable and humble Marine doing some completely insane things.

Not on the same scale, but I have one of these and it works well. It's plastic though.

Those are really nice looking, but you can get a really high-quality razor for MUCH less than that:

The album forgot to mention why is was created.

The artist remembered being a little kid, before knowing how to read, and wanted to recreate the feeling of looking at an encyclopedia for the first time. Seeing all of the pictures and charts and diagrams, knowing they mean something but not what that something is.

Edit: You can get the book here. It's hardcover, and also an art piece, so don't be too surprised by the price.

u/hunterkorvis · 2 pointsr/interestingasfuck

There is a a book called Machine Man that explores this idea.

u/coleman567 · 14 pointsr/interestingasfuck

According to the description, it can be used on double pane windows up to 1-1/8"

I actually bought the book. Those are pores.

The book says of Balsa:
>Pores: Medium-large, distinct without lens, numerous to moderately few, solitary and in radial multiples of 2-3.

u/-Yack- · 963 pointsr/interestingasfuck

You can buy this thing on amazon. It starts at $777

u/Einsteins_coffee_mug · 147 pointsr/interestingasfuck

you can get a floating rotating globe on Amazon for almost 1/10th the price at your door in two days!

I mean the quality probably isn't as nice, but it's something. Something in stock!

u/whogivesashirtdotca · 155 pointsr/interestingasfuck

Think of centuries of scientists who would've killed to work with this, and we can have one delivered to our door to take pictures of our split ends for under $20 Canadian. We live in an age of luxurious miracles.

u/D_IsForPaul · 66 pointsr/interestingasfuck

You completely fucked up the link. Here it is for anyone wondering.

A browse through Amazon shows this product (and similar contraptions) have horrendously bad reviews:

> This is the worst product I have bought on-line. At £50 including postage (it came without packaging) it just does not work. It is for hard to clean windows but the instructions advise wetting all of the outside of the window before starting. If they are hard to clean how do you wet them? It is difficult to place the outside element and magnetise it to the inside element. Once attached movement is poor and the two parts separate easily. The image suggests a child could use it. I doubt it very much. You need extra long arms to get the outside element out around the window frame, without falling out. Certainly not something I would recommend and if I could give less than one star I would. Avoid this like the plague.
