Hi, I'm Doug Ireland, I'm the PA Announcer, Music Co-ordinator, Statkeeper, Goal Horn Operator and Timekeeper for the Toronto Patriots, Toronto Jr Canadiens, Markham Royals and Newmarket Hurricanes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, as well as fill in PA announcer for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, and I Co-Host Offside Talk, a weekly Toronto Maple Leafs oriented podcast. This week we were lucky enough to interview the author of Hockey 365: Daily Stories from the Ice which I highly recommend checking out if you like hockey history, even if you don't like our podcast. If you're looking for something to listen to on the way to/from work consider checking us out, and if you retweet us you could win a free copy of Hockey 365! GO LEAFS GO!

If you're interested in the interview specifically, it starts around the 37:00 minute mark.

I would definitely recommend this book for her. I had an older edition but my sister and I found it really helpful growing up.

You don't have to have all the answers but it's important for her to feel comfortable talking to you about things and you being worried about her is a good sign IMO.

The Lives of Conn Smythe is a good book, its more about Smythe's than the leafs but worth considering. Heres the amazon link in case you're interested: https://www.amazon.ca/Lives-Conn-Smythe-Battlefield-Gardens/dp/0771056842/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1481680924&sr=1-1&keywords=conn+smythe

This one is a pretty interesting read:

"Leafs AbomiNation: The dismayed fan's handbook to why the Leafs stink and how they can rise again"

Good insight as to why we haven't won a cup since '67. Good history lesson too if you want to learn more about all the eras of leaf hockey.

Hyman has written at least 2 childrens books, with more on the way.

Matthews has written none. Therefore he doesn't care about the children. Hyman on the other hand, is inspiring the next generation of hockey players.

It's an older book but I really liked this one.

I got Tales from the Toronto Maple Leafs Locker Room in a book exchange one year. It was a pretty solid read.

If anyone wants a good book that talks about what an important part of the Leafs Dave Keon was from the perspective of someone who was a kid at the time, I highly recommend Dave Bidini's book Keon and Me: My Search for the Lost Soul of the Leafs. It really made Keon snap into focus for me as a part of the team's history, and it puts some perspective on how shitty it was on how he got treated by the team.

They already have a book out about him!
[A Boy At The Leaf's Camp] (https://www.amazon.ca/Boy-at-Leafs-Camp/dp/0771090900)

If we get fucked again, the Leafs seriously need to consider hiring a professional negotiator. I'm shocked that we don't already have a dedicated team. We've got the money for it.

In the meantime, Dubas, here's Getting to Yes: How To Negotiate Agreement Without Giving In.

Read it.

If any of you ladies and gents wanna feel even more miserable after losing in the 1st round with a wide open playoffs in front of us, go read "67" by Damian Cox. Goes over the Gretzky thing, the Orr thing...oh god the Orr thing, Parent...man you name it. Really shows you how terribly this team was run post 68- present.
