Hi Trish,

It's so weird communicating with someone so far away in a different time zone. On different note its so cool to have a British friend!! I am psyched to talk with you LOL:)

Ok lets see, I want to answer all your questions/points: As for books, I have read/owned almost all of them. Currently my collection isn't as large as it used to be, long story involving someone else, but needless to say I still have quit a few.

Have you ever seen this one?:http://seattletimes.com/html/books/2009991075_ledzep05.html?cmpid=2727
I have that one and its super cool, it has like memoribilia thingies LOL, like concert tickets, replicas of the famous B side single of Hey Hey What Can I Do, and other cool stuff.

This one is also one of the favs of my collection:http://www.amazon.com/Good-Times-Bad-Led-Zeppelin/dp/081095009X

Finally this one is one of my all time favorites and for a Zep Head it's a must LOL: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/led-zeppelin-dave-lewis/1102182602?ean=9780857128195

Ok, now, Hammer Of The God's was pretty good. The band subsequently came out against the book saying it was bullshit. However Stephen Davis DID tour with the band on at least three tours.
He also spent time with them at Bron Y Aur.

It is rather sensational, but I believe probably 75-80% true. Richard Cole, if you know/remember was their tour manager from their first American tour up to the beginning of Zeppelin Flies Over Europe 80' their final tour.

Supposedly by that time he was so drugged up on heroin (Along with Jimmy) that he just couldn't function and then Peter Grant finally had enough and fired him.

The book he wrote somewhat coordinates wit Hammer Of The God's, but I do believe he had some acrimony towards the band and his anger definitely comes through. But for a Zep Head, its probably important reading.

The book I put the link in for, by Dave Lewis is AWESOME. It's probably the one book that every Zep fan should own. It covers everything! Dave had and still has a great relationship with the band. During their career Dave used to write a newsletter that fans could actually receive via snail-mail called "Trampled Underfoot" (I think, its been so long and I am too lazy to look it up LMAO).

Either way, the band themselves have come out and said that Dave is the ONE person that they trust. So I would definitely read anything by him. Dave also owns and runs LedZeppelin.com which is supported and approved by the band. He was at the show at the O2 center that Celebration Day became. He had exclusive access and recorded and photographed alot that weekend.

Dave I believe was also at Jason Bonhams wedding, that became the first time the band played together since John had died. Did you ever see any of the footage from that wedding/show? Some of its available online, if you have trouble finding it let me know and I will see what I can do.

Ok, next favorite song LOL: For me, as a snooty purist LMAO, I believe as they went along they got better and better. So for me, their last "official" album, In Through The Out Door was my favorite, and my favorite song is....wait for it....LOL....Fool In The Rain. Its my phone ring tone and EVERY time my phone goes off I start singing it, drives my family crazy.

But honestly ANY song can get me going. I remember being in my early 20's, I had a 1974 Lincoln Mark IV, it was sooo cool, huge boat, big engine and soft squishy leather interior. I LOVED that car, anyhoo, I used to work third shift, and back in the day, I was a pot head, I admit it, I try not to lie, I prefer to be honest LOL, and occasionally today I will partake, but with children I try to be careful!

Anyway's I would get off work, hop in my baby Lincoln and pop in a cassette, usually back then it was Physical Graffiti, and I would smoke and drive around and just tune out to the awesome sounds! It is a great memory.

Ok my story of discovery of the greatest band in the world was pretty stupid if I am honest LOL. I grew up in a house full of music, my mom was a singer (and now I am too, I followed in her footsteps LOL) and she always had music playing.

So I grew up with music, BUT not music like Zeppelin. It was mostly The Carpenters, Seals and Crofts, Chicago etc etc. Mostly 60's and 70's soft rock.

Well one day in middle school, 7th grade to be specific, I was with my best friend, who happened to be a pretty good looking guy, I guess I am not gay so I don't freaking know but all the girls loved him LOL. Anyway, a girl we both knew approached my friend told him she had some cassettes and did he want to borrow one. We walked to her locker and there stacked on the top shelf was all of Zeppelins tapes.

I had never heard of them but wanted to seem cool, so when she asked me which one I wanted to borrow I played it cool and borrowed Zeppelin II, I liked the cover LMAO.

I went home, put the tape in, blew my mind completely out of my head, and the rest is history. I was in love, I became consumed by Zeppelin. This is back waaay before the internet, so I had to scrounge and be resourceful to find Zeppelin stuff.

Flea markets and yard sales became my Kashmir as I searched for anything Zep related. I have been able to proudly complete my vinyl collection with ALL studio albums in the original Atlantic numbers and colors :) I only have 2 of the 6 In Through The Out Doors though, I am on the lookout for the other 4. Some of them are rare. I did have the famous Black Dog/Hey Hey What Can I Do single 45 record but that was lost when I lost all my other stuff.

My collection was HUGE but I lost most of it. Since then I have built up a pretty sizeable collection, and I never lost my albums. Thinking of songs I like, its easier to find songs I don't care for (if a Zep head can even admit that LOL).

For example, maybe its over exposure but I am pretty sick of hearing Stairway. Its a classic NO DOUBT one of the best, if not the best song of all time, but its played ALL THE TIME, if I recall correctly it is the #1 played song on classic rock radio of all time. Rock N Roll is another, again great song, true classic, but it has been there show opener forever! Plus its used all the time whenever Zeppelin is mentioned.

But still I do LOVE everything they have ever done. Just on a musical, talent level there is NO comparison to Zeppelin. Yes I can appreciate The Who, Floyd, The Stone's etc, but Zeppelin is DIFFERENT and SPECIAL. There is just SOMETHING to their music that is almost un explainable, you either get it or you don't. The immense talent contained in all 4 individuals is amazing. There will never be a collection of musicians close to them. The closest I can think of is Rush. They are pretty damn good LOL.

But you listen to the inter-play on the songs, between JPJ and Bonzo and it just blows you away. They play off of each other and its so cool how they can go perfectly in time and then make changes seamlessly. I spent time with/in bands during the 90's so I tried hard to develop an ear to hear the individual instruments.

The other thing that blows me away is Roberts talents, he can play guitar ALMOST as good as Jimmy and then when I heard him play a blues harp (harmonica) for the first time, I was left with a spinning head and amazement!

This is turning into a book, sorry Trish LOL, I may have to do two parts I am running out of space, I hope you don't mind, because while I do have people in my life who know I love Zep and some like them themselves, I don't have any Zep Heads to talk to about them. Their story is huge as is their history and that doesn't even touch their music.

Like did you know that in 75 I believe while in America, Bonzo fell in love with a Corvette he had seen at a dealership. Not having a liscense to drive in the U.S. he had to have the car delivered to the Continental Riot House. He parked it in the garage and spent all the time he was in L.A. just sitting in it and revving the engine. Man Bonzo was one of a kind, a sweet soul inside a sometimes cruel brutish man.

I've never been to the UK but I SOOO want to:) I LOVE Top Gear its so cool you like it too:) Tell me, who's your fav of the trio? I love Jezza, but for me it has to be the hamster, he's truly one of a kind. Although....like Zeppelin...each of them add's something special and unique to their show. Have you noticed they get better as they go along? Hmmm awful Zeppelin-ish LOL:)

Ok, finally, THANK YOU, It's nice for me to have someone to spout Zep stories and lore to. I like to draw, and I used to be able to draw their label logo, Apollo, the sun god, on command to perfection LOL. Haven't drawn in years though...I should try, maybe this will inspire me. Either way Trish, take care, good talking with you, and look forward to your next message:)

Steven
P.S. Forza Jules!

Yup. He was a DJ in Boston at the time. One of the first DJ's to give Zeppelin regular air play. He was a HUGE fan of the band. They credit him with helping the band break thru in the US. There is a book about it.

Here's a link to cards that I am pretty sure are from the 1990s. Actually, after my original post I went to a site which seems to list all trading cards, sports and otherwise, of the 1970s and 1980s and there are none I saw based on LZ
