You'll need one of these: https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Power-Functions-Battery-88000/dp/B004RF301U/

I had an old Lepin one sitting around but I'm pretty sure they're about the same price - prob better to go with Lego.

Also when you’re positioning, keep in mind where you want the led to point before placing all the parts on top. Lower and upper torso then lights is good too, just be careful.

Cheapest but janky.
EDIT2: https://www.ebay.com/p/134236262
This may possibly be a middle ground and your best bet

Just wanna chime in and help! The lepin base plates match these from amazon, and they are resonably priced. They are thick, not the real thin ones. https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Charcoal-Gray-Stackable-Plates/dp/B01K8RO81G/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1491849881&sr=8-11&keywords=10%22+base+plate

They come in multiple colors as well. I love them and they have great clutch!

I'd say 99% of the sets have been a blast. After the Lepin raid, it's hard to say what sets will run out of stock and what sets will not be republished. (maybe they will all come back, i don't know) I say just grab the ones you like. Some like the ucs Imperial Star Destroyer take extra work to get right, but they all look great on display.

On a side note, if you like Star Trek, the Enterprise is nice too. Over 3000pcs for $100: https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Bloks-Enterprise-Collector-Construction/dp/B01ARGB91K

Amateur :)

I bring anywhere from 1 to 3 of these various sizes for a few things i buy in China on trips, including building blocks.

K-Cliffs Heavy Duty Cargo Duffel Large Sport Gear Equipment Travel Bag Rooftop Rack Bag By Praise Start https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0098R63DY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5Z8SDbB93B1KR

They fold up pretty nicely. I can usually fit two of these in a vacuum sealed bag inside my carryon with 4 days of clothes. You can being lots of stuff back this way...

I'm using some Chinese brand track I got on Amazon. It was a little more expensive than $.64 each, but the quality was absolutely fantastic. And it comes in a handy little cardboard box to keep it all organized. (It also came in 2 days, and I didn't feel like waiting a month!)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y3NX97X/

I will probably order in bulk from China next time I need loads of track.

Maybe some day, Lego will give us what we want like they used to a decade ago. Those were the days ....

If you like ships, be sure to check out this Mega Bloks sloop. Very nice and one of my favorites:

Thanks!

How well do these Cobi sets go with LEGO minifigs, in your experience?

If I look at eg. their Opel trucks, they all seem 8 studs wide, whereas I'd expect a truck to be about 6 studs wide to go well with my other vehicles.

This makes me a bit reluctant to but any Cobi sets, although I love how slick their design looks.

Camel lists the lowest at $82 for Amazon. I think one of the WalMart sales may have broke into the $79 realm, but I'm not sure.

If someone is interested, I'd probably suggest you not wait for it to get cheaper.

That said, still a good price on anything of this size and piece count. I'm looking forward to the build, once I find a place for it :)

I ordered these https://www.amazon.com/Econoco-Tempered-Glass-Shelves-Pack/dp/B00TH3RKIQ for $20 from Amazon warehouse deals. But when they arrived 3 of the 5 were completely smashed. Looks like they were a return that had not been repacked properly. Since I just had a box with 50lbs of broken glass I could not ship it back. So Amazon gave me a no return refund. So then I ordered another set of 5 at regular price which arrived well packaged. So that's how I ended up with 7. They are great shelves for the price, highly recommend them.

For the brackets I ordered K163-1 from https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32885353478.html. Originally I was just using 3 of these per shelf. But the brackets are not strong enough on their own. Two of them snapped when I put the shuttle and death star on it, a scary moment! Also I live in San Jose CA so was worried about earthquakes. So I ended up replacing the center bracket on each shelf with a large regular shelf bracket from the local hardware store. The combination provides a very stable solution and I think doesn't look too bad.

Regarding earthquakes, I'm using a combination of QuakeHold putty and fishing line tied from the brackets to the Lego to hopefully get me through most minor to medium tremors. But I think I'll be fubar'd if the big one hits!

I’d also suggest taking the plunge in main lego reddit, to get some more eyes.

For specific ideas and Friends focus, maybe look at the old stuff from Kristel https://modularsbykristel.wordpress.com/downloads-friends-buildings/

There are also some general inspiration and instruction books out there, like LEGO neighborhood

The original LEGO design has the same design flaw - the magnets are just too strong. (kinda need to be) I tried to do this without using glue as well but at the end of the day, it really makes no difference. I would suggest Loctite. I used it with my lepin ISD and everything went fine. (almost 2 years now)

Just four dabs on the magnet holder studs will do just fine. The ones that have an extra lego piece, glue those 4 studs too. If I recall correctly, all the magnet location instructions should be fine and everything should line up but the glue really isn't all that permanent. I have sometimes pried off glued pieces using a knife and/or pliers with minimal damage.

If you are having issues with the wings falling apart, make sure to apply a lot of pressure on a flat, level surface to ensure all the long panels are inserted all the way. It takes a bit of force with the real LEGO pieces because of the size but sometimes a bit more with lepin.

I had a much easier time with the UCS Venator because of my UCS ISD lepin experience, but that one has some different issues.

If you like that you should get some of the other sets, like the D7 and Enterprise bridge. They're much smaller, but they're nice sets.

That x-wing came off eBay. I think it's either a Lele or Lepin version of a 90's era Lego set. This is the set:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-X-Wing-Fighter-Model-Building-Blocks-Kit-Kids-Children-Toys-Gift-/152230548445?hash=item2371a5d3dd:g:qrkAAOSw-kdXzR7X

Don't spend more than $20 on it if you buy it. I got mine for like $11 including shipping. There are a lot of sellers who offer this set but, the number of them available tended to rise and fall when I was watching it. One week there were none, another week there were dozens.

EDIT: This is the discontinued Lego brand version: https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-X-Wing-Starfighter-Discontinued-manufacturer/dp/B005VPRG3S

Yes I got it from This Store

I bought a new base plate from -=Here=- which is a 48X48 base, I figured I would just buy one large one as it didn't need to be split to open the Firehouse like the Haunted House did. If I had problems I could just cut it to what I needed or use the space for more Minifigs, trees, whatever.

Hope this helps!
