You just have to jump in and do stuff. Using it as your primary OS or always for a particular task (e.g. always use it for internet browsing) is a good way to become familiar with a linux desktop environment.

As for the command, whenever you want to:

You might have better luck with physical converter from one of your dvi-i outputs down to VGA and then a converter for VGA to S-video.

Something like this to convert digital to analogue, and also something like this to get your TV output.

No idea about linux working with this seeing the TV resolution or anything at all really might have to manually set it. No driver ready fixes I could find. Good Luck though :)

Some devices of the same class work better than others. A N300 adapter should be able to max out at around 30MB per second, which is plenty and probably higher than your internet bandwidth. If you transfer large files on a local network an AC wifi adaptor might be better.
I don't know any good Linux compatible ones off hand, but this N300 one might have better range.

Anyways good luck.

i had the same issue back when i was dual booting, no idea why. I blame it more on windows than mint though :D

try a different kernel. My broadcom is now fine and reliable in 4.4, but totally unreliable in 4.15

as for dongle, back when i was having issues i tried a load, a lot didnt work great. the one that did is a cheap dongle from plugable. and they have good linux support on their website as well. but this model was fine as soon as plugged it in.

I had a few issues with 3Com cards not working at gigabit speeds, so I bought an Intel PRO/1000 GT and it worked perfectly without any troubles.

Quote"I already have a usb extension cable running like 6 feet away from me towards the direction of the router " This may be the problem, make sure you have a high quality USB3 cable. I like these

If you want a book, Sobell's Linux series is good. I learned a lot about the command line from it.

TeckNet Classic... Less than $10, comfortable size, non-proprietary (1x AA) battery, zero issues on Linux.

Unless you're doing twitch-style gaming, I see zero reason to spend a lot of money on a mouse. Or if you're into the RGB thing, I guess...

I recently got this off amazon and it works perfectly.

I have a decent realtek card in the machine and spent days researching how to make it work but it just wouldn't. But this Panda product was just plug in and instantly, wifi.

Do you have a spare USB wireless adapter you could temporarily use to facilitate Internet access for the 17.x install? Seems odd that both your existing wireless and wire access do not work with Linux Mint 17.x drivers. Even with my (almost 10 year old) stock Acer Aspire 1 Netbook, I had internet access right away. In fact, every flavor of Linux (from Puppy to Open Suse) I tried worked with my hardware. You could purchase at a wireless adapter for under $15. https://www.amazon.com/Panda-300Mbps-Wireless-USB-Adapter/dp/B00EQT0YK2/ or borrow one from a friend. What is your PC hardware build profile?

Late reply, but if you google the chipset code (CSR8510) on the thinkpenguin.com site for the 60$ usb dongle, you can find dongles on newegg and amazon for 10$ with the same chipset.

This one looks identical to the one on thinkpeguin site, but 8$ : http://www.amazon.com/Importer520-Bluetooth-Adapter-Chipset-Windows/dp/B00CG94OW8

Cool. I'm in the UK and the router I have problems with (only on some laptops) is a Virgin cable modem/wifi box. I got one of these which connects fine to the cable modem and my laptop connects to it every single time.

I have been using this with Lenovo Yoga 13 and Mint 18, it sticks out a little bit more than I would like but it works. no setup

just my opinion on this - pay $15 or so and get a USB wifi that works in both Linux and Windows. Less time spent on a frustrating issue - wifi on Linux.
