Haha! Well I happened to get mine at Goodwill or Salvation Army. They're REI brand though and pretty nice! They're just like these: https://www.rei.com/product/137553/rei-co-op-essential-rain-pants-womens

Actually if it's just a one time trip, I'd recommend thrifting all of your stuff for it if you have the time and don't mind used stuff. People donate some amazingly nice clothing, it's crazy.

Do you know about how cold it will be? I do lots outdoors, and I live in northern Michigan. It averages around 25掳 F here now during the day. If I'm out and being active ("hiking" [just really walking on a trail or something not paved with my dog] or working outside) I usually wear: long Merino wool socks (either knee high or mid calf), LLL or other brand leggings, my fancy REI wind/rain pants over that, sports bra, a LLL CRB tank, a sweat wicking tee (North Face or Under Armour since I own no LLL ones), a Merino wool long sleeve shirt (Smart Wool or I just got these from Costco and they're awesome: https://www.costco.com/Seg'ments-Ladies'-Merino-Wool-Long-Sleeve-Tee.product.100398773.html), some sort of fleece quarter or full zip, and then finally a down vest. If it's especially windy I'll throw on my rain shell over all that. I also usually wear my LLL top knot toque as either a neck gaiter or ear warmer/headband depending on how cold it is. I have two, I've worn them both at once before 馃槄

Layering like that keeps me really warm without having to sacrifice comfort (my tank, t-shirt, and Merino base layer are all super thin) and I can take a later or two off and stash it in my bag if I get too hot.

Edit: I just reread your OP and you're in Chicago! Yay! I'm originally from there. 馃槉 So Chicago area is usually really windy, so make sure you have something wind proof. And over the past few years it has gotten like, crazy cold with the wind chill. Like, they cancel school cause it's too cold. So layer up for sure! Also if you're walking downtown ever, look into the Chicago Pedway: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Pedway

I lovingly call it the "Poo Way" because sometimes it's a lil stinky down there but it beats the cold!

Edit 2: also, can I recommend you get a really nice waterproof winter boot? When I lived there everyone chose fashion over function and I saw sooo many women with waterlogged Uggs or just inappropriate footwear in general. I wear these and they're hella cute while still being functional: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B013GHP5QC/ Also you might not get away with rain/wind pants over leggings on days it's really cold, sometimes I double up on my leggings and wear two at once, or you could also get an insulated pair of snow pants instead and those would serve you pretty well. They make nice ones nowadays if you look for snowboarding or skiing ones. My family is still in Chicago and when I visit them I always check out the thrift stores nearby cause I find especially good items out by them (they're in the burbs but I've gone downtown too like Gold Shore or Edgewater area and have had good luck too!)

I really like the tide pod sport with febreeze along with some vinegar in the rinse cycle. Works perfect.

Alright, last comment. This is the pair in the ad. The first edit was the same pair, but lined.
