I don't see any problem for 5 years, unless there's a suddenly change in technology or trend. The progress of computer innovation has been slowing down lately.

It's highly unlikely that 8K video will become mainstream in 5 years. The 2018 MBA can handle 4K editing. Export time is definitely longer than a 2018 MacBook Pro, but honestly, I never just sit and wait for export, I use the time to go do something else.

Intel won't mass release any 10nm chipset until late 2019, and who knows if there'll be more delay. Even then, it will take another year or two to mature. There has been speculation that Apple may make Macbook with their own CPU. Even if that happens in a year or two, it will also take another year or two for software to maturely make the switch. Also, wifi6 is on the horizon, but ac isn't going away.

The USB-C ports on the MBA are also Thunderbolt 3 ports. When you need more performance out from the machine, you can always plug in a eGPU.

BTW, for moving onto USB-C, I bought a few USB-C to USB 3.0 adapters and just leave it attached to my devices and cables which I use the most.

The swap is actually really simple, buy this adapter and follow this guide. After you've made the replacement, start up your Mac with the option key held down and do a network recovery. Good luck, the swap is well worth it and actually sped up my MBA a noticeable amount!

The solutions to do this is to daisy chain monitors that will support that, use something like Matrox, or drive one monitor from Thunderbolt and the other with a USB adaptor. Both the Matrox and USB are essentially external video cards that allow you to drive another monitor from the MacBook Air.

I haven't found a solution that is simple or cheap yet. The adapters that have multiple video ports only support one monitor from the ones I have tried.

As mentioned below, Adaptors are a must. Also, you should go with some sort of protective sleeve for your laptop. Here's the sleeve I use with my Air, and here is my Air on top of that exact sleeve. It's quite bulky, but it protects the notebook really nicely.

Enclosures and adapters for these SSDs are limited. If your Windows machine is a desktop with an available PCIe slot you could use something like this which would be about as cheap as it gets. External USB enclosures like the OWC Envoy are nice but expensive.

EDIT: Btw, the charge port on a 2015 Air is simply the I/O board which can be swapped out quite easily and is not very expensive.

Give this a look. Reviews report good results, and the top review includes screenshots on how to set it up.

>Update: I used a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter($8 bucks) and a USB 3.0 to VGA (cheap $18 bucks) adapter and this works.

would be very expensive to get dual monitor via just the TB1 to TB2 port that you might have. Get a TB to HDMI adapter(should be cheap)
Then use this for the second display
