I do a lot of craft shows and knowing how to setup for one is essential.
How much space are you getting? Are they supplying a table? If so how big is the table, if not what table are you bringing?
The table is the key, you need to know your table size so you can plan how you want to display stuff. Too cluttered and people will walk away without really looking, too sparse just looks lazy.
What I did before my first few shows was to do a mock setup at home. Luckily I had my own 8x3 table, which is the standard at a lot of these shows. From there I just started laying stuff out and trying to look at it like a customer. I also had friends help me out by giving me their opinion of my setups. The more eyes the better.
One trick I learned from an older lady doing knit stuff at my first show is that the clothes rack I use for making my macrame fits perfectly around the end of the table. Gives me a great spot to hang stuff like wall hangings and plant holders. They also fit great behind the table. After my first craft show I bought 2 more of them, luckily they were like 15 bucks on amazon, and 2 day shipping FTW.
You want to display your items in a way that is pleasing to the eye. Put some space between items so they don't all just blend right into one another. If you leave them too close you will watch peoples eyes just slide right off your table, and that is frustrating as hell.
A lot of my stuff I have multiples of, especially the plant hangers. I will display one, and keep the extras in a box under the table. As they sell I will give them the ones I keep under the table unless they insist on the display, then I just swap in the stored one.
Go to staples and make some business cards, and get a little business card display. While you are there you may even want to talk to them about making a banner sign to fit the front of your table. The added professionalism of these 2 touches will attract people and entice them to spend money with you. Once I did these 2 things I noticed a marked increase in sales at these shows.
For keychains I highly suggest a wire display.

I use that one, and it serves me wonderfully. And honestly, it's one of the cheapest ones I could find. I also love how adjustable it is.
Also, I would suggest not spending too much money in preparation for your first show. Make due with what you have or what you can make yourself as you may discover you HATE doing shows. But if you do enjoy the experience, as I do, try to use the proceeds to make your display more professional, it will pay off in the long run.
This is my favorite cord.
I haven't made any plant hangers yet, but I imagine it would do great for it, unless you're planning on making a monstrous hanger? I'm not really sure it matters as long as it's sturdy rope. It's a way better price than you'll find in most shops, it's the actually thickness they say it is, and it's super soft while still being super sturdy.
A+++ Highly Recommend
I began doing macrame back in July 2018. I started out watching the Crafty Ginger (This is the whole series, I watched a few of her plant hanger videos but that was it for me) on Youtube and purchased Macrame by Fanny Zedinius. I macrame pretty much every day, so that helped too! I feel like the most important knots to master are the square knot, larks head and double half hitch knot. Everything else comes later.
I spend a lot of time looking for inspiration on Pinterest and instagram then kind of mash it all together! I hope this helps! Let me know if there are any other specific questions you have!
I used 3 strand cotton rope I found on Amazon! Mine is 5mm x 328ft I got for just under $20, but if you sign up for Snagshout you can get it for about $6 with their coupon (I didn’t realize this until after I bought it). There’s also a few other diameters the seller offered if you want variety.
I’m still pretty new myself but I’ve found that a nice sharp pair of scissors and a tape measure are helpful for starting off!
Here’s the link for what I bought (am I allowed to post this? Not sure...)

Hi! Here is a video I think is a helpful one for a beginner plant hanger: https://youtu.be/AjrCaHAqaBI
It lists the materials in the description. I like 5mm cord that you can buy here: https://www.amazon.com/XKDOUS-145Yards-Knitting-Decorative-Projects/dp/B07VV19RC8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=5mm+macrame+cord&qid=1571869240&sprefix=5mm+macr&sr=8-3
You can buy rings at Michael's or another craft store or even Amazon as well. Of course if you prefer to do a different plant hanger then you can search YouTube for various videos. I hope this kind of helps! :)
Thank you! I ordered all the materials for this piece on (Canadian) Amazon actually. I used thee rings in two sizes to act as the base, here are links for the big one and the little ones. The cord is this one in Burgundy and Shadow Gray. :)
As for the length, I don't quite remember exactly, but I measured by full arm lengths (stretch out your hands as far as possible for a unit of 1). I did that maybe three times and folded in half to get my length for almost all of the pieces except the red one along the sides. That one is one long piece that is double the size of others since I wanted to have the little hook in the middle and then knotted it around the sizes of the large ring :)
Knowing nothing at all about macrame, I ordered this book https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1849499403?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title and this rope, https://www.amazon.com/Macrame-220Yards-Knitting-Decorative-Projects/dp/B07H165FTY/ref=pd_bap_m_rp_2/145-3865249-4529969?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07H165FTY&pd_rd_r=0a19dd34-9d92-4740-b7de-2bfbe2253e66&pd_rd_w=y3wWb&pd_rd_wg=9Ogb7&pf_rd_p=7092fda7-28a2-4e44-9254-b40e2cad6f55&pf_rd_r=E7AP7QSC1VTJS2NBMBPQ&psc=1&refRID=E7AP7QSC1VTJS2NBMBPQ
I've been happy with them both, I've made so many projects. Sorry I don't know how people can hide the huge unsightly link and turn it into something easy and small to click.
When I first started I used spray adhesive to attach graph paper to a piece of foam I bought in the kids crafting section of the store. I upgraded to a thicker board from Amazon and I really like it. The notches in the side are really nice; you can tuck the strings right into them!
I'd recommend The Macrame Book by Helene Bress that I picked up a thrift store for $3, can get it for about ~$20 used.
Or... downvote an honest suggestion?
Thank you! Here’s the link to the rope I bought. It was pretty soft, so maybe I should look into stiffer ropes, although it could just be a quality thing
Macrame: The Craft of Creative Knotting for Your Home https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1849499403/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_x6EUDbE5JJHTP this book has most of the main knots you'd need and also some nice designs!
I bought some first at Joann that didnt work out so well and definitely gave me a hard time fraying.
I wasnt sure how this would work out when I bought it, but I was really happy with how it did
Ialwiyo Macrame Cord,No... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VQ5SSG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I guess it's a lot of trial and error finding what works out for you and the project you want to do
Something like one of these maybe: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Adjustable-Rolling-Garment-Rack-Chrome-Black/629678927
You'd probably want a bigger one or maybe two side by side for the 8ft part. I googled "rolling closet rack."
If you're okay putting holes in walls you could also install a few bracket plant hangers to put the dowels on: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRJ9JTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_o6P6CbQFD7FK9
Thank you! it's 4mm cotton rope that I got from Amazon. I ended up using the whole 100 meter spool for this project.
It’s paper! I got it off Amazon
I was surprised with how realistic it looks in the pictures.
The Hillman Group 122415 White Driller Hook Ceiling Hanger, 1-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I0A99E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ro0MDb15XSQZ4
This is what I started with. Hemp cord is a little more rigid and it makes it a lot easier to learn knots, they are a lot more visible than cotton and easy to untie when mistakes are made. I will say it is kind of tough to shop for cord online, especially if you are looking for something thin for jewelry. There are so many different weights and textures.
