tldr: 4k at 31.5 (i.e. 32") is useable, which I wouldn't necessarily say for smaller sizes, like 27".

I've actually bounced around many monitors, none of which are even close to perfect imo. I'm always looking for a glossy, high-resolution, gigantic display at a low price. This seiki hits 3/4 but has an matte finish I don't love. Also, the design is average (very limited adjustability and thicker bezel by today's standard). I've owned the dell p2715q previously which also had a matte finish AND was too small to use @ 4k easily. It had a better design, though. Previous to that, I had 2x Dell s2415H which had a beautiful design and glossy finish but were low resolution and fairly expensive for what they were. I've owned other similar monitor setups, but this is my favorite so far. I vastly prefer 1 high resolution monitor rather than multiple lower-resolution monitors. I have also exchanged my (excellent) rain Design mStand for a Twelve South BookArc since I prefer using just 1 monitor.

The short version is I'd like a 5k 32+ inch monitor which is glossy and does not cost all of the money. I figured Apple would make something like that soon and instead they're making a 27" version through LG which costs $999. While priced right for the market, it's just too small to use at higher resolutions and I don't have enough money, nor would I prefer, having multiple monitors at that price.

This Seiki 32" is simply the best compromise for me, at the moment.

Super clean man! But you gotta ditch that mouse and keyboard duo. FWIW, I use a pok3r and a MX Master for my work and home set ups (both are Macs). /r/mechanicalkeyboards is your new best friend =].

I have the bose companion 2 speakers They look great and give pretty good sound. Not too small but pretty good. They recently came out with a series 3 but I haven't tried them yet.

Stand for the iPad is the Anker Stand

Stand for the iPhone is the Twelve South HiRise

I would highly recommend the HiRise, just a tad confusing to setup. Also, you'll need a cable that is NOT thicker than the original apple charging cable, both my amazon basics and anker cables dont fit into it. So take that into mind. And the Anker one doesn't have anywhere for you to charge but it's foldable and nice if you need to just setup your phone to watch something or whatnot.

Hope that helps!

I know it’s nothing special, but this is my macsetup! I work primarily on video editing projects, some Photoshopping, with some Wordpress website building sprinkled in there. But this setup is used mostly for generic browsing, YouTube/Netflix, and Plex server hosting.

So this is my setup that I’ve built over the course of 4 years.

Honestly love the monitor, i have it connected to this Pluggable USB C hub from amazon so i can single wire it to my macbook and charge as well; [Here]

Thank you!

If you're set on Bluetooth and want a simple all-in-one setup get these.

However, I have to recommend the Chromecast Audio - so much more reliable than Bluetooth, better sound quality, and easier to connect to. I'd pair it with this amp and these speakers. If you're feeling adventurous go this route but you'll be happy with either coming from Bose.

You can sell the unused monitor on /r/hardwareswap to recuperate some cash. Even if you don't want to get rid of it, I'd still move it so there's space for the speakers and they aren't being blocked.

I use the Apple Magic Mouse 2, it’s good but it takes so getting used to as well. It’s very sensitive.

For the keyboard I use the Logitech Solar Wireless Keyboard for Mac. It’s great! Never having to charge it and it can use artificial light to charge also.

u/Evanngelos · 2 pointsr/macsetups

I have the Benq BL2710pt and couldn't be happier. Looks great, bezel is a nice matte black. All i needed was a Mini Displayport to Displayport cable and it works perfectly.

Ultimately, use the space you have; mitigate the clutter that exist on the real estate you have at your disposal. Made a small list of affordable items you can buy (one at a time, if need be):

small shelving unit

extended mouse pad

LED strips (best behind the desk)

velcro cable ties

Recommend a monitor and laptop stand to keep your eye level in-line with your displays.

Good luck!

The mouse mat is from Perixx (size 900x440x3mm). This is a German link you might be able to find in your place as well: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00EG7WB8C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I don't use the Magic Mouse at all so I don't know if it works well with it. The material works beautifully with my MX Master though.

u/thenastynate · 1 pointr/macsetups

It could be. Do you have the same 2017 MBP as I do? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if using an HDMi adapter requires some CPU activity. I try to avoid adapters as much as possible so I'd recommend using something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Thunderbolt/dp/B01J6DT070/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1522193139&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+c+to+displayport+cable

USB-c has native support for display port, so it seemed that this was the best way to go. I could be totally wrong though so feel free to do some research lol

u/TheCravin · 1 pointr/macsetups

Try more specifically looking for a KVM, which should be able to switch HDMI, and a few USB's, I'll look for a link to one, but that should help tremendously. Plug your mouse, keyboard, monitor, and maybe even an external drive into the KVM, and with the press of a button go from controlling your PC to your MacBook.

Edit: Here's a link to a fairly basic one, Audio input and output, one HDMI out, two USB ports for one mouse and one keyboard, for what I'd call a fair price

It's a Perixx DX-1000XXL (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EG7WB8C/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_a5EPwb19YSSA5). Not sure how it stacks up against more expensive offerings, but for cushioning the keyboard (I have a habit of punching keys when I code) and making the mouse movement smooth it's perfect!

For those considering getting the LG 34UC98, I would reconsider if you don't really need to connect via thunderbolt and don't care about the white color.

My setup:

MacBook Pro 2016 with AMD 460 GPU

LG 34UC88-B

Two LG 5K Ultrafine displays

46" 1080P Samsung TV

There is plenty of smaller cheaper docks than this one but what I liked about this one is 1. it requires no drivers, 2. does everything you need it to, 3. comes with a detachable (and relatively long) cable, and 4. comes with a mount so you can put it on the back of your monitor/ under your desk.

u/nathanhelms · 1 pointr/macsetups

I'm looking to hang on to it for now. Also, you might want something newer. It's a Dell U2913WM, which came out in 2012.

u/Ferroequinologist · 3 pointsr/macsetups

You're looking for what's called a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch. They can get rather pricey depending on how many and what kind of ports you want.

Here's one from StarTech on Amazon that does HDMI.

Any suggestions on how to mount a 2012 Mac Mini to the underside of an Ikea desk? The best option I can find is this thing on Amazon, but the included screws are far too long for a ¾'' thick Galant.

I was thinking about picking this AOC Display up to replace my old Apple Cinema display from 2006 that has been ghosting a lot recently.

Probably this one. I used it to mount mine on the back of a monitor.

One cord as in one cord connecting to the MBP. The monitor charges the Macbook and acts as the hub for the speakers and usb devices. The desk has a powerstrip on the underside where the monitor, speakers and desk plug in, the power strip is plugged into the wall (you can't see it in the photo, but there's a weird shadow that gives it away).

u/wouldyoulikeabag · 1 pointr/macsetups

They're kind of a pain in the ass to mount, too. I think Amazon Prime drops the price 20%, could be worth a trial.

Just in case anybody's interested here's what you'd need:
Monitor

Mount Adapter

Aaand just in case you're as salty about a $35 adapter as I was, heres a cheap 'n' sturdy mount arm

u/No_Chest_Hair · 3 pointsr/macsetups

Amazon has a few cheap mice that work really well and have more features than a lot of really expensive mice.

I bought this mouse for about 10 bucks after my expensive Bluetooth mouse broke. Over a year and a half later, it is still kicking ass. It's ugly as hell, but the only thing I would trade it for is a Logitech MX Master
