> It's a good reminder that "white" people in America are not homogenous. Check out the book American Nations by Colin Woodard. He doesn't go into Minnesota so specifically, as I recall, but he covers the vastly different histories and backgrounds of the people that regions of our country were populated by and how much those original values and principles still explain politics and such today.

This was a really good read! It's an interesting perspective on North American history that makes the broad strokes fit together a lot better than my high school textbook ever did and focuses on what I think is the most interesting part of history: how it explains why things are the way they are today.

I had a great paperback book that I got in a MN PoliSci class a few years back but I can't for the life of me remember it or find it anymore.

Instead here: This looks good if a bit outdated. This looks to be a great resource.

edit: I hit post and then find it two pages later. Here is the book we used in school.

First and foremost: the Scandinavian ancestry and cultural values that came with it.

Pretty much everything else people have listed flows from that: work ethic, practicality, emphasis on education, mix of capitalism can-do attitude and well funded social programs.

Scandinavian countries usually rank really highly worldwide in all of the things you mentioned. Minnesota is an extension of that.

Read and study this record of a Minnesota child's walk to school

In seriousness, other commenters have offered good advice. I'll second the idea to find something you enjoy to do outside. You'll love it way more here if you don't feel trapped inside half the year.

Here's a list I've been meaning to buy/read. I haven't read any of these yet so I can't vouch for their quality. They mostly focus on MPLS and SP too as that's more where my interests lie.

That's most of what I've seen available on Amazon.

EDIT: The Minnesota Historical Society is also a good resource.

Actually, he wrote the book already.

It's very good, holds up well, and is full of good ideas for campaigning.

I really doubt a non-affiliate link to an unregulated product in response to an explicit request for help finding said product is against any rules here, but just in case it is I'll take the risk for you, MrFurrypants.

So /u/Ltdan994 I'm pretty sure this is what you're looking for:

This is fiction but, The Bohemian Flats by Mary Relindes Ellis. It tells the story about the immigrant community in early Mpls. Really interesting characters and full of local references and history.

There's a book already called Weird Minnesota. Might be useful.

Yeah I watched it, here was the key moment:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEmkN8aoeMY&feature=youtu.be&t=1m48s

Clapper said he didn't know about it because "The evidence, if there was any, didn't reach the evidentiary bar in terms of the level of confidence that we were striving for in that intelligence community assessment."

Previously the NTY reported that Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia. And Trump claims that Comey assured him 3 times that there was no investigation.

Here was a video from CNN featuring congresswoman Dianne Feinstein (D) talking about the evidence.

Additionally there was a recent book about the Clinton campaign from an insider called SHATTERED: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign, by Jonathan Allen, which explains how the origin of the Russian narrative was invented by Hillary in the wake of her recent defeat.

So I hate to break it to you friend but you are being suckered once again by the legacy media. They are having a real hard time keeping their narratives straight though this time. They're not used to having a non-establishment neo-liberal in charge.

I can't help you with reading comprehension; the educational system in this country is broken. Consider picking up some material. Anyway, let's move back to what you're wrong about: 87 Percent of Americans Unaware There's Scientific Consensus on Climate Change

Feel free to cite your own sources stating there's no settled science when it comes to climate change, and I'll explain to you why you're wrong as patiently as possible ;)
