If it isn't already, you will need to make sure that your phone is unlocked - i.e. no longer bound to your carrier - before you switch to Mint. Your current carrier will assist you with the unlocking procedure as needed.

After that, the rest is easy, and you'll likely be very glad you made the switch.

I recommend getting the Mint Mobile Starter Kit for $5.00, and that $5.00 will be credited to you if you start a prepaid plan after you find out everything works out OK (good description up here, too):

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I honestly don't know much about bands, what exactly would I be looking for in phones when looking for bands? Right now the 2 phones that affordable to me and have volte (from what I can tell) are the nokia 7.1 and this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NPRQYP1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I'm actually leaning towards the motorola just because I love having a good battery on my phone.

You might get random calls or texts from people you don’t know from the previous owner of the number.

Have you decided which sub $200 phone you are going to go with? You might want to look at a used or new Essential Ph-1 Used (Amazon)|Renewed by Amazon. After software updates it’s a pretty good phone from what I hear. Other than that, you may want to look at either new Motorola’s (Amazon) or a used LG G6/G7/V20/V30 or even a used Samsung Galaxy S7 or S8 Used S8(Amazon)|Renewed S8(Amazon).

I have Pixel 3a. Great phone, has all LTE bands, supports wifi calling and visual voicemail.

Right now Amazon has black friday deal for $299.

Missing bands 66 and 71. Not too bad, see if band 71 is in your area with this map: http://maps.spectrumgateway.com/t-mobile-600-mhz-band-71-deployment.html

I'd see if you can get your hands on another phone before spending hundreds on a signal booster. If you got any friends/family with tmobile or mint, time to invite them over.

You can boost cell signal with something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/SureCall-Flare-Signal-Booster-Carriers/dp/B01MS2KFS0/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=signal+booster+indoor&qid=1558834197&s=gateway&sr=8-9-spell
But you need an antenna outside, then a cable running inside to your indoor antenna.

For going to Europe, and many other places, your best bet is actually this:

Three UK Prepaid Europe SIM with up to 12GB data for 42 countries for 30 days https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ZNGK88/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UMsPDbXKBYACA

Bestbuy is the only place I've seen it.

Could also buy a cheap Amazon gift card from a B&M. (If credit card is your problem).

Add it to a Amazon account and buy this

Get it shipped to a amazon locker. (If shipping address is a problem)

Mint will refund the 5$ when you activate your account.

Not a direct answer to your question, but I don't know another way, goodluck.

Hijacking this thread to remind everyone that Mint has a trial kit on Amazon and their website. It can really save the headache of refunds, and will cheaply let you know if they will work for you.

I have ported my number alot and I believe with the 7 day money back guarantee you can port it and try it out, if you do not like it you should be able to port it back no problem and get your money back. Or you can get the trial kit for like 5 dollars on Amazon and without porting your number yet just try it out where you live and surrounding areas you may frequent. Hope this helps.

I ordered this off Amazon for my iPhone 6S Plus. https://www.amazon.com/Mint-Mobile-Starter-Compatibility-SIM/dp/B0786RD524/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525906298&sr=8-1&keywords=mint+starter+sim

Starter sim is a trial/test to see if you like Mintmobile. It comes with two different sims. I used the other sim it came with to port my number over. As far as visual voicemail, Mintmobile at the moment does not officially support it to my knowledge. From reading posts on here, only a few iOS users are actually getting visual voicemails. Unfortunately I am not one of them. Some people are using an app called Youmail to get visual voicemails though, I've used it before and it works very well.

Nokia 6.1 is another option, slightly more expensive. Users reported that it does have wifi calling on Mint, even though not officially listed as having it.

How come it's the full $60 on Amazon?

Moto G7 Power

https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g7_power-9527.php

https://www.amazon.com/Moto-G7-Power-Alexa-Unlocked/dp/B07N929634/

There's also the G6 Play which has worse battery life (still really good though), worse performance, and probably wont get any more Android updates, but is almost $100 less
