I tried to mix new and old. I am a sucker for the classics tho. The first three are my top pick in that order the rest are things that I thought where good in any order. I linked the version of each I liked to make it easier to find. Most are streaming on Amazon unlimited or Spotify.
There is a professionally filmed recording (i.e. Legal, not a bootleg) of the final Broadway performance that you can buy on amazon. It's not the original cast, but it's still really good.

I definitely recommend this for a first viewing. After that, try the movie if you're so inclined. I personally don't like it all that much, but it's not awful. The upside is that is has most of the original Broadway cast.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading (or listening to, there's a great Audiobook) Jack Viertel's The Secret Life of the American Musical.
It will help draw parallels between songs from different shows, and demonstrate how they function similarly in their respective books. It's really well-argued and I think it would contribute to your appreciation as you consume a large amount of material in a short time.
There's a number of good books out there, with the Woolford being the best I've read to date:

:)
The film with Bernadette is available on Amazon to rent. I'm assuming the current release is what knocked it off being a freebie. Still, she's wonderful as the witch, and it's the full deal.
It may have all the songs but doesn't have the sung through dialogue in between. There is a lot of material left off the other recordings. I think this is the only complete recording. https://www.amazon.com/Miserables-Complete-Symphonic-Recording/dp/B0002E5L62
Also, it's the only way to hear the amazing Anthony Warlow as Enjolras.
(Actually not sure if that is the correct link. The recording is from 1989, so not even sure if it's in print anymore).
Also, here is the Miss Saigon one. https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Recording-Boublil-Schonbergs-Saigon/dp/B000002SM0

Get him the Grimmerie. I love Wicked, and when I got this for my birthday 7 years ago, i practically peed myself. It's only $27 on amazon.

PLAYBILL (Available Now/ In Stock)

It's the Bernadette Peters version, it seems as though it aired as one of the American Playhouse series in 1991. It is on DVD.

Each chapter discusses a different stock song type.
This doesn’t have the OBC, but it is the full theatrical production. It does have Tracie Thoms (reprising Joanne from the movie), Eden Espinosa (as Maureen, she’s a professional Idina Menzel replacement), and Renee Elise Goldsberry (as Mimi, OBC Angelica from Hamilton).
...not a fan of opera singers performing MT repertoire. See: Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming singing "All the Wasted Time" from Parade.
I'm more a fan of the Ella version or the Jane Monheit one.
Which is not to say that Joyce and Renee aren't amazing, in their niche
