For those interested, this is an excellent read!
All evidence points to the contrary, really.
I mean, there are dozens to hundreds of accounts of unexpected radiation exposure and fallout. Hell, Area 51 itself was evacuated at least once due to fallout from a nuclear test.
Books like "The Bomb" tell a fictional tale of a Bikini Islander returning to Bikini during the Operation Crossroads tests, and are subsequently killed by the tests. But it's a fictional book; nobody actually died in those blasts.
Similarly, The Atomic Times tells the eye-witness account of a US Naval enlistee during his time on Eniwetok Atoll during Operation Redwing, and while it details a lot of exposure to fallout, no mention exists of fatalities to the tests. Similar to the book The Bomb, I have reason to believe the book is a work of fiction, and not an accurate retelling of those events.
As far as Chinese and Russian tests, those are a lot harder to confidently say that nobody died during those tests. I'd be unsurprised if Soviet personnel died during their testing, but I've yet to see compelling evidence that anything like that happened.
Bear in mind, we're talking about a remarkably well documented clandestine program here. To the point that there's video footage of five soldiers and a cameraman standing below a 2kt Genie air-to-air nuclear weapon
I mean logically the burden of proof is on the person making the assertion. Hard to prove a negative. That said I recommend this book (edited by among others former SecDef Ashton Carter) which goes into almost pornographic detail on nuclear operations, and what the silos can and cannot do (and this capability is not listed).
