It so rare to find someone on reddit who is open to at least learning about a new idea. :)

If you want to learn more you can check out the FairTax.org website. There was also a book and a follow-up book written about it. Finally, you can check out the actual text of the proposed House bill.

Is the plan perfect? Nope, but there are no perfect plans when people are involved. I just think its better what we have right now and its the best idea I've seen to replace the current system.

Have you seen this book? Maybe it can help, I don't know. It's basically about the differences between fucking and making love, from the view of a young prostitute. The WaPo review is spot-on, in my opinion.

John kelly told us it was marmots and not rats in this amazing book

It's a book by pick up artist, Neil Strauss. It's basically a 'how to' book in the style of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" Except it's about, you know, how to be a dick and manipulate women.

Funny you should mention that. The only place I've ever seen this used is in Diaspora by Greg Egan. I thought he made it up. TIL.

The Modern Man's Guide to Life was the original, and is still essential for high school / college age men.

I had the spiritual precursors to those, Life is Hell (especially School is Hell).

The paperback is fabulous- At one point I bought a second copy by accident, simply because it was so inexpensive.

People really need to read Flat Earth News, this stuff has been going on for years. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/0099512688

We all have our quirks. One of mine happens to be this craziness.

That's the "first edition." From what I heard, he posted the story online, and it took off so he got a book publishing deal for a couple thousand copies. They all sold out, so now people are selling them for thousands of dollars as they can be considered a collectible item.

Here you go, 10-20$

I think when the National Review (through a guest columnist from The Hoover Institute) even asserts that there is a "rule or ruin" faction to the Republican Party then we might be on to something. Also, I'd reference Geoffrey Kabaservice's works on the decline of Republican moderates (and his book "Rule and Ruin") as evidence that we do have a core in at least one party that is abandoning compromise and is willing to see no action on issues as opposed to negotiated action.

To your point though, I think in the 60s and 70s, we had similar issues in the Democratic party.

So, are they going to adapt "Going Postal"?

"Arch-swindler Moist Van Lipwig never believed his confidence crimes were hanging offenses -- until he found himself with a noose tightly around his neck, dropping through a trapdoor, and falling into... a government job

By all rights, Moist should have met his maker. Instead, it's Lord Vetinari, supreme ruler of Ankh-Morpork, who promptly offers him a job as Postmaster. Since his only other option is a nonliving one, Moist accepts the position -- and the hulking golem watchdog who comes along with it, just in case Moist was considering abandoning his responsibilities prematurely.

Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may be a near-impossible task, what with literally mountains of decades-old undelivered mail clogging every nook and cranny of the broken-down post office building; and with only a few creaky old postmen and one rather unstable, pin-obsessed youth available to deliver it. Worse still, Moist could swear the mail is talking to him. Worst of all, it means taking on the gargantuan, money-hungry Grand Trunk clacks communication monopoly and its bloodthirsty piratical head, Mr. Reacher Gilt.

But it says on the building neither rain nor snow nor glo m of ni t ... Inspiring words (admittedly, some of the bronze letters have been stolen), and for once in his wretched life Moist is going to fight. And if the bold and impossible are what's called for, he'll do it -- in order to move the mail, continue breathing, get the girl, and specially deliver that invaluable commodity that every human being (not to mention troll, dwarf, and, yes, even golem) requires: hope."

The dude didn't do his homework.

Seriously, the fake crash was as dumb as it gets on so many levels, I don't even know where to start...
