oh wow thank you for the response! the only good modern cap card/modern upscaler I can think of which supports component is this:

would you recommend these? my old setup was the elgato game capture hd which had a component breakaway cable. I unfortunately don't have any OEM cable right now but will definitely look into one for the future! my final question is what are you referring to when you say analog circuits?
edit: i found an OEM cable with something called a toslink adapter built into the top for digital audio. would that be good? sorry for all the questions just want to learn about the best options to record gameplay.

I've definitely heard of Noctua and know they make good stuff, there wouldn't be any issues running an aftermarket fan like fan (like RPM or etc)?
I looked around a bit and saw one or two forum posts mentioning specs for replacing it, it looks like it is a 12V 40x10mm fan so this would be the Notcua equivalent I'm guessing

There's the same cable here just longer: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wire-Drive-3-Connector-Ribbon-Cable/dp/B0177AFC0I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473013576&sr=8-2&keywords=80+pin+ide
Thanks for the help, I love my old Xbox but the hard drive is getting a bit slow nowadays and mod chips are like gold dust. This should help give it a new lease of life. Would any SATA hard drive work? I was thinking of using a Western Digital Black 2TB like the one I have in my PC.
90% of my soldering experience is larger things, simple wires, such like that. I don't even have soldering equipment anywhere close to small enough to try to do a modchip.
If you've got an older version (anything before 1.6 I believe) you can do the TSOP flash mod.
I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYAA814/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and used it to bridge the pins needed to TSOP flash. It's basically like one of those old white-out pens and was pretty easy to use. The only other thing I needed was a Xbox port to USB cable so I could connect a flash drive. You need a smaller flash drive (there's a compatibility list linked) but I have so many old flash drives I found one that would work.
I've never modded a console before and now after a little adventure later I have my Xbox set up with a larger hard drive that I can install games to, a much nicer dashboard, and it's a lot more future-proof.
I've already got a list of about 40 games that I want to play once I find all of them and it will be a growing list. I've found a lot of the games feel very modern in how they control and that's a huge plus the Xbox offers I think. I can't get into much other "retro" console gaming because I hate the controls. Although, most of those retro consoles will emulate on the Xbox anyway.
This one works better imo but it requires modifying of the dvd tray. I would like to see a RGB or similar silent fan that is as good as noctua fans.
Same video tutorial I used to mod mine. You do kind of have to get creative with the dremel to make it all fit. I used the Noctua NF-R8 https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-Bearing-Cooling-NF-R8-redux-1800/dp/B00KF7P34G/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1536189695&sr=1-6&keywords=noctua+nf-r8 plugged into the original fan port. It runs 100% silent with the case on and temperatures sit at 50C under full load. You can mod these fans to run at their full 12v speed for additional cooling, but I'm happy with that temp and a silent machine.
What i did was use a molex splitter with fan adapter and placed a 120mm fan on top of the hestsinks of the cpu/gpu so it ran full speed. You can get it to balance nicely so it wont drop and smack off the heatsink since they are different sizes. I unplugged and removed the dvd drive and had the hdd off to one side (as far as the power and ide cable would allow.
I then transferred around 500GBs in one go via ftp. Note that I also reapplied new thermal paste on both heatsinks after getting the stock gunk off. No problems at all and i highly reccomend doing it this way, just leave the room as the noise can be irratating, and it takes an age to transfer. Just make sure the xbox is in the open - i cracked my window and sat the xbox as close as i could to allow fresh cool air to aid cooling.
kk sweet i found one that has free shipping. This should work right?
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B079N3Y7RF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1YTWC7UA4957U&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073CKHX7X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Is the IDE cable I went with, it does seem to have 80 pins when I look at it.
I'll try connecting the sata drive with the ide adapter to a pc in the meantime to see what happens.
EDIT: My BIOS sees the xbox hd connected to the pc's IDE port. Macrinum Reflect doesn't see the drive though, but it's there in device manager. I tried to boot clonezilla from the PC and I just got ATA errors and I couldn't go anywhere. The xbox drive is good as it works just fine with the xbox transferring files via FTP.
I tried the sata drive with the IDE adapter attatched and the computer doesn't see it. I'm going to go with this startech adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 before I try the TSOP mod.
Thanks guys
This is the one I use. Works great. I got lucky and got it for about about $10 on eBay though. https://www.amazon.com/Portta-N3CVRHP-Component-Converter-support/dp/B003VJ9RP6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1521116497&sr=1-1&keywords=portta+component+to+hdmi&dpID=41mr9xhIDBL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
this is a godsend. The first part is the important part. I'm sure you can find bottles of just the first part
I replaced my fan with the one below. It is very quiet, fits nicely, and cools as well as the old.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NQLT0M/
Sounds like you have a component connection (the five colours) on your TV.
You'll need an original Xbox component cable. Something like this.
There is always conductive pen
Works great for the most novice modder. Since a tsop is such a small bridge I'd go this route to make sure you don't mess up a good board.
There's actually two different external road trip screens for the original Xbox. The one you bought and a smaller one. here Both are really cool, but the one you purchased has better speakers from my experience.
Sorry for not making sense, I made this post when I was way too tired and I'm an idiot.
Yes, I mean COMPONENT cables. I have these cables and they look like they are in great condition. However, I get no signal on my TV when I plug them in. Strangely though my TV recognizes a component source is plugged in, but just doesn't give any picture or sound. The Xbox works perfectly fine with regular AV cables.
I figure either the cables are just broken, or my TV is too new and doesn't accept the lower resolution of the old Xbox.
Also, the monster cables have Green, Blue, Red, Blue, Red ends on them, while my tv has Yellow/Green, Blue, Red, White, Red inputs. Anyone know what that's about?

This????
If I understand the question correctly, I would use one of these.
Component to HDMI
or
RCA to HDMI
The first one should give you a better picture.
I recommend https://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Grease-Paste/dp/B011F7W3LU/
Well, I've just looked through my eBay purchase history and in spite of the fact I could have sworn I had purchased one, It looks like I never got a molex 4 pin y splitter.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/kenable-Power-Splitter-Cable-Molex/dp/B000ITL4KI
This is the right sort, yeah?
I don't think it's possible.
I see some people chaining two different adapters together. But, lots of people say it does not work.

i have one from when i was a kid and bought a new old stock one just a few years ago. works on gamecube also, and has the option for steering wheels. there are other options available too still.
I just replaced those exact caps with these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B072SSR65V?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title
It's cheap in the US too https://www.amazon.com/Phantasy-Star-Online-Episode-II-Xbox/dp/B000086JXD Just not at Walmart
Just bought this yesterday to softmod, not joking.
https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Traveler-Flash-DTI-1GB/dp/B000AV14M2
Y splitter I used was this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00007JO36/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523934612&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=molex+y+splitter&dpPl=1&dpID=414K8HO2MoL&ref=plSrch
I actually used an old action replay memory card and copy of mechassault that I bought years ago instead of the new age method of softmodding, so I’m not sure on the usb stick question.
Don't worry, there are more out there. Here's the first google result for PS2 to xbox converter. And here's the ebay page for "ps2 to xbox converter." And if you want that convenient Amazon shopping experience, [here] (http://www.amazon.com/Gemini-Universal-Control-Converter-Playstation-2/dp/B00012YI14/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1405095423&sr=8-2&keywords=ps2+to+xbox+converter) is a shockingly similar product to the one I have. $5.50. No usb-out though.
Arctic clean shit works really well. I used no alc for this. Just warmed up the xbox, let the artic sit on it for a min, wiped up

You're using a 40wire IDE cable. I can see it from the photo. IDE to SATA needs an 80wire IDE cable or components don't get enough power, causing these sorts of errors. I bought one of these when I modded my xbox and it did the trick.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00005TN7U?pc_redir=1405388567&robot_redir=1
I have these I noticed the picture is better that stock, but the cable is really stiff and the plug tips are hard to get on or off your tv. I'm afraid that I might damage my tv sometimes when I remove them.
