I buy dog toys at places like Marshall’s, TJMaxx, Tuesday Mornings etc.

I get at least 5-7 toys for $25ish depending on what i pick out and often times find Kong, chuck it and other good brands.

Some toys Diesel will destroy within hours, some within a week or and a few lucky ones last a couple months.

They all just go into a toy bin that he’ll dig through on his own.

Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Sarah (my parents and sister) always have fun buying him more expensive “extra fun” toys for Christmas, Birthday, random holidays etc. We call those the extra fun toys because they’re the ones I’d never buy him knowing that they’ll last 10 minutes. (Although a few have turned out to be amazing quality and have held up.) They know toys don’t last long with him but all our family’s previous dogs were small and not into toys so they have fun picking things out for him.

Also there’s a few that I keep put away unles we’re actively playing with like the big fuzzy chuck it ball. Toss it in the air and Diesel with pop it back to you volleyball style. When we’re done, i take it away or else he’d just shred it.

Also I’ve had good luck with JW Pet Company Invincible Chains LT Triple Dog Toy, Large (Colors Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DJXFI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UXnDAbR4NNHF2 and with their big holey balls. Diesel will tear them up after a while but he doesn’t eat the pieces, just spits them out so even if he tears it open it sticks around for a while. I think he like how the rubber feels when he chews on it.

Edit: oh and frisbee golf frisbees are great. My friend who was really into the sport and had dozens of old ones gave us some because my pit and his pit loved to chase and play with them. They last for a long time and are like $10 at a sporting goods store.

I've got a 7 month old and he broke out in a wart last month and then promptly shared it with one of our other dogs. I'd suspect your pup's lump, though it doesn't resemble a wart, to be something along those lines. Puppies are at risk of a suppressed immune system due to vaccinosis, or over-vaccination. Papilloma viruses (warts) are the most common outbreaks, but lumps, rashes and other such things are prone to occur at a young age, and pibbles, I've found, are unfortunately more prone to skin issues than many of the dogs I've ever had.

Regardless of what the official diagnosis is, I would highly recommend picking up an immune system booster. I've tried a couple over the years to great success. This one I've used most recently for the pup with the warts, and it has outstanding reviews, mine included. This one, though a little more expensive, was excellent for our older dog some years ago with an epic skin infection. In addition to the Amazon product, we also used a pau d'arco supplement, because the wart had a slight resurgence on just the zenapet. I'm happy to report that the wart on the pup is finally withered back and is almost gone with this combination. This is just after only two-and a half weeks. They say that warts should be allowed to run their course, but that they'll go away after 1 to 5 MONTHS. As far as I'm concerned, supplements are the way to go.

Here's more info on immune support supplements.

Hope this helps a little.

Going to be a bit long, bare with me.

Do not directly introduce the dog & cat at first. Keep them completely separated from each other. This will involve a bit of revolving animals, but in the long run it’ll be worth it. Crate the pup away from the cat and let the cat roam, sniff, etc. Hopefully the cat will “scent” some objects. After, say, an hour, crate cat away from dog. Let the dog sniff around. Do this process for 1 full week. During week 2 continue week 1 but add: rub your hands all over the cat’s face (where scent glands are) then immediately rub “scented” hands on dog’s face. This will force the dog to deal with the scent continuously. Do that for a week. Week 3 is week 2 plus “drive byes”. Dog on leash walks by crated cat until dog doesn’t show intense interest. After that you should be good. However it’s always best to have a safe space for the cat to go that the dog can’t. There are pet gates that don’t require any drilling that work wonders.

I hope that all makes sense. If you have other questions just ask.

Amazing intro book by Ian Dunbar, DMV.

Pits can be tough first dogs because they are very high energy and need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. But, they are also amazing and sweet and cuddly. Read that book. Find a good local trainer APDT Search and sign up for a basic manners class. Even if the dog is trained, it helps teach you and reinforces your relationship.

Good luck. Feel free to hit me up with any questions you may have!

It's best to think of training as an everyday thing. Teaching a dog happens at every possible learning opportunity, which is always. If your talking about training as in sit, down, stay and basic obedience you can start that at about 3 or 4 months. Bathroom rituals, bite inhibition, crate training and little every day things should start now. badrap has some great training videos. Check online for a large resource of positive reinforcement and lure techniques for basic obedience training. When first starting keep your sessions short and sweet, ending on a positive and successful note. It will keep you and your puppy from burning out or getting frustrated. I usually follow a five/five rule for busy working individuals, five times a day 5 mins each.

Catch Your Dog Doing Something Right and Mother Knows Best are some cool books to check out.

First, read Ian Dunbar's Book.

  • Socialize your dog. Have her see, smell and meet as many people as you possibly can. Walk her in many different environments. Have her see people in skates, bikes, skateboards. Learn how to introduce her to other dogs and then have her meet as many dogs as you can.
  • As you have probably seen in this subreddit, pitbulls are very often affectionate and not aggressive. However, they are powerful. A playful nip from a chihuahua is very different than a playful nip from any 80+ pound dog. From the dog's perspective, it's the exact same ludic behavior. See the book on how to teach your dog to learn to have a soft mouth.
  • It is an every-day commitment. She will need her walks, her training and discipline exercised every day. If you don't have the time or energy to do this, don't get a dog. Any dog, any breed. Watch some Dog Whisperer episodes and you'll see that even the cutest fluffiest breeds can get unstable and neurotic without this level of attention from their family.
  • Have your kids learn how to train her, and have them train an exercise her as well. That creates very strong bonds and will also let her know that even though they may be small, they're still figures of authority.
  • Learn to relax while your out and about with her. If you're about to have a tizzy with worry about what others think about you having a big dog, your dog has no choice but to be nervous. She will look at you for guidance and will follow your lead.

Feel free to DM any other questions you have. If you decide to rehome her, please find a reputable rescue organization or a no-kill shelter.

Hope it helps! I just noticed my typo, and yours, lol. It's Herm Sprenger. Look into the clip kind, they are plenty strong and make putting them on worlds easier. I have had the same one for around 15 years now.

If you get one start with clipping the leash to both rings first. This prevents the collar from tightening when he pulls, like a martingale. If he needs it, you can go to just one, the "live ring" which will tighten as he pulls. I've never had to use this through 4 ABPT's.

Google proper use and positioning for a prong online. There is a particular place on the neck and orientation of the collar that is the correct useage.

My little Barbara girl is a pittie mix and she was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy when she was 3 I think. She is 5 now and it's been over a year since she had her last seizure. She's doing great now! There were times when I thought we were never going to get them under control. She's on phenobarbital twice a day and potassium bromide once daily. I know it's scary watching them struggle with seizures. Remember to stay calm. Keep the Valium injection handy in case she has one that is lasting more than 5 minutes; it could prevent brain damage and save her life. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me. I spent countless hours researching epilepsy.

Here is a book I bought and found it to be particularly helpful. There's a used one available on Amazon for $7.75 right now.

Haven't seen anyone say this here yet and it's been a life-saver for me: Lacrosse Balls. They are a hard rubbery material that they can't destroy. Mine love theirs. She was always a tennis ball freak, but tore them apart in seconds. Also, Elk Antler is expensive but lasts a long time and is healthier for your dog than bones.

Edit: I've also had good luck with Jolly Balls for a good soccer/basketball sized toy. They are made of a real tough material, but are also kind of bouncy. I've had the same one for about 3 years now with no holes.

She's just about 60 lbs.
I got these goggles for her. They should fit your pit just fine, with plenty of room for adjustments :)

I buy 100% cotton rope, like this, and use it to tie rope "bones" and other similar toys. It's fairly cheap and pet safe, plus I use it to replace ropes on other toys like this one, since he had pulled the rope completely out of it.

This toy + peanut butter will be your friend

We also use this + milk bones broken in half or thirds

considering things just look pulled out and not destroyed... this is bored puppy not so much separation anxiety puppy.

It also might start helping to crate train your pup now. We crated ours for almost 2 years when we were out of the house. Basically we would tell him to go to bed and he would put himself up. This taught him that it was sleep time when we were gone.

Be ready for LOTS of energy though when you get home.

A crate trained pup saves a TON of headaches later

Get a prong collar. Works much better than a harness for keeping them from pulling. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GDZ0RO/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Try the Booda Wonder Tug . It's a braided fabric, so your dog will still have the texture he likes, and it lasts awhile.
