I've done the same using the 3m kit, which includes a drill attachment. Super easy and effective. Hardest part was masking the painted areas first. Most people recommend putting some sort of wax, so I picked a wipe on product too.

I just got the iottie one touch, I have it suctioned above the vent on the left of the steering wheel and the extender arm reaches pretty far. Plus it has wireless charging. I love it haha

I got one of these for my 2008. Mounted the control on the left side of the center console. It's been fantastic so far. Play Pause Track Forward and Back, starts up and pairs automatically when your car turns on, and doesn't interfere with the existing hands free phone system built into the Prius. You can use your steering wheel volume controls to adjust the audio as you would any other AUX source. It's by far the best balance of functionality, features, and affordability that I've found.

I purchased these a few months ago. I'd say their output is similar to halogen, maybe a touch more. Definitely no where near their advertised 8000lm - which is ideal for me. Simply install and adjust your headlights vertically down a turn or two and golden. Cut off is great, don't blind oncoming drivers, and looks good, too!

u/NewC303 · 2 pointsr/prius

I use this iOttie vent mount, it's been great so far. I don't like the magnet mounts because of the little plate you have to either stick to your phone or sandwich between the case and the phone. You can attach and detach the phone from the mount with just one hand - many non magnet mounts require two hands to use (hold open the mount with one hand, extract the phone with the other)

I was in the same boat and waited just as long. I wish I took a before shot. I highly recommend adding a clear coat or else it will yellow again. https://www.amazon.com/3M-Quick-Headlight-Clear-39173/dp/B079QL8BYK/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=3m+clear+coat+headlight&qid=1559064919&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Yeah my 2012 has this amazingly inconvenient USB plug in the bottom front wall inside the console. You cannot see it, only feel it. When I can get my iPod Nano plugged in to it it does show up on the audio and I can browse and select any playlists or album titles. Podcasts and audio books show up as "albums".

But however, an older model with the cheap stereo option might have a cassette player, and if so, a cassette adapter like this works fine. Actually, it works better because you control the audio with the ipod or iphone screen.

u/fieldsofgreen · 2 pointsr/prius

Sadly there is no software or upgrade you can do to make it work stock.

But, this is an awesome cheap alternative, exactly what I use:

iClever Himbox HB01 Bluetooth 4.0 Hands-Free Car Kit with 3.5mm Aux Jack, Multi-Point Access, Siri / Voice Activation, Dual USB Charger & Magnetic Base, Updated Aluminum Ring - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GJFGE0K/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_kb2uybFVKTJCK

Cheap, easy, connects every time I try in the car. Since the gen 2 prius has the aux and a 12v in the center console, you can easily set this thing up behind the scenes. I cannot recommend it enough! I have the controller puck mounted right next to my seat belt so I can easily skip songs and pause music. Works incredibly well!

I don’t know about this specific situation but I’m putting in a new stereo in my 2006. (No JBL)All my research suggests you need something like this to keep the steering wheel controls.

This also works with the JBL stuff. I think the JBL amp is digital so most stereos need something to change the signal from analog.

I’m not an expert but maybe that helps.

I don't have a V, rather a Gen3 2013. I had a JVC KWAV61BT put in. Purchased on Amazon for $200 a year ago. Also got from Amazon: Steering Wheel Control Wire, Dash Kit, and Wiring Harness. Had a local shop install it for $100. I probably could have done it myself, but wanted it to look professional. Total cost of the stereo and parts was $275. Looks like Amazon has the DDX-372 for under $300.

I've used this on all of my cars for the last 6 months!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0754NDNT8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mounted mine to the driver door on the small piece of glass forward. Perfectly in reach and out of the way. I did have to tap power into a fuse for the 12V->5V adapter so I could hide the wiring: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU59QA8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have something like this one that fits in the antiquated cd slot. On my ‘16 it blocks the infotainment jawn, but that’s pretty useless anyway (except for the backup camera), and the mount is easy to remove if you need to. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PC29ETE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fUGuDbVD0YV65

You would have to take your eyes way too far away from the window just to use it. It would be a pain if using it for navigation.

Edit: I purchased this one from Amazon and it is great.

iOttie Easy One Touch Mini Air Vent Car Mount Holder Cradle for iPhone 7 7 Plus/ 6s Plus/6s/6, Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, EdgeS6/S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 7/5, Nexus 6, & Smartphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017HME9DC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_z0j4xbM9J289D

I have it attached to my air vent and it's very close to the line of sight to the windshield and the steering wheel.

As a follow up to my own post, after doing some additional research on the smell thing, I went on Amazon and grabbed a bottle of this stuff with next day shipping. Maybe all it needs is a good AC flush.

Works great with my 2014 Five.

For apps I use the Carista app. And the DashCommand app.

So if the labor will be performed by someone else, the only thing I need is the oil to replace the existing oil and the oil filter correct?

Mobil 1 only please

I actually bought my tires on amazon. They arrived a day early. I had installation done at Pep Boys for a little over a $100.

You can pay for the installation at the time of purchase through Amazon to be done somewhere near you as well.

Definitely replace the 12v battery first. It could fix everything. Not joking. I got my new 12v delivered today.

I put a Pioneer 4100 NEX in my 2011 Prius II. It can use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Here are the parts I used to install it.

u/fuckflyingpigs · 1 pointr/prius

The lugs are the same size(21mm) and the jack will work, the Prius hasn't gotten much heavier in the past few years. So any tire iron that's 21mm will work, and any jack that is rated to lift 3100lb will work.

However if I had a chance, I would get an aftermarket jack that will be more reliable than the stock ones. This looks like a good option. Hell, put that together with this wrench and you'll be set. Can't get much cheaper than $30 for this stuff.

u/waspocracy · 2 pointsr/prius

My fiancee uses this one and it works well for her OnePlus Two with case. It's about the same size as Nexus 6 and fully adjustable.

u/DavidElg · 3 pointsr/prius

I turned mine off a few years ago using a guide found on Prius Chat. I have a 2013 model (gen 3). The OBDII dongle - I got the wi-fi kind - was $15 on Amazon. The app I used to connect to it was Engine Link, which is an iOS app (Was $5 at that time). While I was at it, I also turned off the seat-belt reminder ding.

u/IfTheHeadFitsWearIt · 2 pointsr/prius

how about this?

i just googled "Evaporator cleaning Kit auto" so you may want to do that too if you need to find something local to you.

u/Zurevu · 2 pointsr/prius

This is the mount you want: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JNJPS4W?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

Other mounts can't fit on the thick vents of a Prius.

You don't need Bluetooth. Just plug in your phone into the USB port in the center armrest. You should always plug in your phone anyway to extend the life of the battery.

u/switchfootchin · 1 pointr/prius

I can attest to this (GEN II). I just had mine drop on me without any warning. It costs $147 on amazon right now, just ordered mine and I plan to replace it this weekend. Mine has lasted nearly 8 years, so I guess I have that going for me.

This provides all the info needed for the most part. I ordered the stereo from Crutchfield and it came with the OEM to aftermarket wiring harness needed, but I also needed to buy an additional harness to avoid the dreaded red triangle resulting from some installs. There is a way to fix this with a resistor but the harness seems to be more reliable.

Well, in case any other poor schmuck runs into this, I think what I need to do is buy a tool to scan the sensors wirelessly so that I can identify the actual TPMS sensor IDs. I've bought this tool from Amazon. I'm planning on using that to ID the sensors that I jacked up on my car's computer, and then re-program them to the actual sensor ID, which I think should do the trick. I'll post an update if this is successful. I'm then going to return that tool and I think this will save me from having to pay some outlandish sum at the dealership or tire shop.

u/HittingSmoke · 1 pointr/prius

Sounds like overpriced horse shit to me.

This is $10 (compared to $100 for the BlueDriver) and it works with Dr Prius, Hybrid Assistant, Torque, etc.

> What Makes BlueDriver Different

> >More Codes

> >Read all the codes the other scan tools read and the ones they don't.

Huh? Codes the other scan tools don't? The car turns on your check engine light and reports an alphanumeric error code. There are no codes that scan tools don't read that I've ever heard of. Different cars have different sensors exposed. For example, in the Prius you can read tons of information about the HV system through an ODBII port. You don't need an expensive ODBII reader for this. Torque has PID databases for Priuses that will allow you to read all of these "hidden" sensors and apps like Dr. Prius are made specifically to interface with them.

>> Get the Confirmed Fix

>> No more Googling for unreliable fixes that waste your time and money. Using the same Identifix database professional shops use, BlueDriver will match your vehicle's issue to a verified fix from a database of over 30 million solutions.

This is pretty laughably stupid. Mechanics use the internet, too. Calling Google results unreliable wastes of time and money is ridiculous hyperbole.

Pretty much all the benefits of this thing are software features that can be had from any dongle with the right software. It seems like they're comparing this thing to traditional ODBII reading units instead of other BT units with various app pairings.

I keep a dongle from Automatic.com installed for metrics and I keep the above Veepak dongle around for more advanced troubleshooting. I've been making heavy use of it over the last week as I finally suffered my first battery failure. I can't think of any reason I'd spend $100 on that BlueDriver thing.
