Yeah, it's an amazing projector except the 4K60Hz HDR gaming :(
It's big, but quality projectors are big for a reason heh.
I use Carls FlexiWhite myelf in a completely light controlled room and it's great.
FlexiGrey should be nice with a lower contrast projector like that (compared to an expensive Sony or JVC I mean) and if there is some light.
Your seating is too wide for an ALR screen with gain IMO.
If you want something simpler though you could just go for this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I4WTFM0/ref=twister_B01J29Z4G4
My friend has that screen and it's nice. 1.0 gain, grey, but not too dark. Feels the same as my Carls material.
All these cheap vinyl screens are pretty much the same material and performance IMO.
The Epson 2045 would be better. The Epson 2040/2045 are the same, but the Epson 2045 has the "Miracast and Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) support
Enable simple streaming from your compatible smartphone, tablet or other mobile device."
It's on sale for $550 over at Best Buy. Not going to find a better projector for the price IMO, and the lamps for it are only $76.50.
Do a search on youtube and read the review from the first link I sent you. Hope it helps! :)
EDIT: The Epson 2040 just went on sale for $500.
Great thanks a lot for your help. Hopefully it's not too hard to setup as I have never done anything with a projector before. Is this a good screen? Also I have a false basement ceiling with tiles so would it be ok to place the projector on a stand on the floor and do it that way rather than hang from ceiling? If need be I guess I could figure out a way to hang from ceiling.
So I took the plunge haha and opted for the silver ticket 106" screen , and bought some 8ft blackout curtains for the doorway , should be pretty dark at all times after this. I chose this because they have that odd dimension of 106 because if I max out the distance on the projector to 110 it'll be on the calling and it looks like that size would be the perfect max size for the wall ;

I have the Optoma HD27, throw distance of ~15-16ft (sorry, I don't remember exact, but it's close) Used it for movies at this point and it has been fantastic. I use it with a 140" and it's awesome.
https://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD27-1080p-Theater-Projector/dp/B01JR7G672/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482172210&sr=8-1&keywords=HD27
Never used that particular model. I use these at work:
Ceiling tile plate (CMJ455): https://www.amazon.com/Peerless-Lightweight-Suspended-Ceiling-Kit/dp/B0002XHBYS
Projector mount (PRSS-UNV):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0V5-001P-000J2
Love them, the mount and plate work great. The mount itself is easy to adjust and lock down.
http://www.amazon.com/STR-169100-Silver-Ticket-100-Diagonal/dp/B00HZRM9K0
Silver ticket, excuse me. Yea, took maybe 30 minutes to put together as well. Very good looking screen. It's $170-200 right now but you can find open box versions if you want.
Honestly, even full price it is much better than my pull down screen.
The manual doesn't have the combination " green power , red lamp " tho... I agree with you about the lamp life but I think I'll buy a cheap one just to be sure this is not some other problem!
Do you have any link or video that explains how to clean the fans ? And if the problem was the fans wouldn't the "TEMP" led turn red?
Thanks!
Edit : whats your opinion about this one https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01J5FNC78/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_azBiDbXJNX8DD
You are going to struggle with gaming with either of these models and tv probably won’t be much better. The problem is resolution. Both projectors are 800x600 native resolution, basically standard-def tv. Imagine a computer monitor from 1998 blown up to 100” screen. Text will be unreadable and video will be blurry like tv in the 90’s.
Honestly, if you’re set on a $300 price ceiling, go off brand and look for “native resolution” of 720p, very important to look for native resolution. A listing that just says “supports 1080p” or “HD” is likely just taking about the inputs it’ll accept, not the actual projection resolution.
My advice would be to save up $200-300 more and get a baseline name brand like this one: Epson Home Cinema 1060 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073S4TS4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_lrP8Bb3NAH9YJ
If that’s totally out of price range, there’s always the used market. Just look for a lightly used one so the bulb isn’t worn. They are expensive to replace.
Thanks for the advice! I'd obviously rather not drop $300 on something so bad its unusable. I'll keep an eye on that one and maybe this? for black friday. I read on a forum that the Optoma is pretty good. Would you lean toward the Epson?
I bought this mount and it’s awesome. Super versatile and solid as a rock...
Vantage Point CGUPM12-S Universal Front Projector Mount - Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00067OOHC?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I have the BenQ W1070
For me the Optoma HD27 is a great choice love the lumens-3200 and the dlp display it has.
Hey I was in the exact same situation about 2 months ago!
I replaced my Benq W1070 bulb with this one from amazon
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J5FNC78/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's $83 with 180day warranty.
I was very tempted to do a 4k upgrade as well.. but it seems like you really need to get almost to $2k range to get good picture and faux 4k.. there are cheaper ones in teh lower $1000's, but I don't know they just didn't seem to be even as good as the w1070 in some ways aside from the 4k aspect.
Personally I would say if you really don't care that much about the 4k yet.. do a cheap sub-$100 lamp with a basic warranty.
Are you talking about this and this ? If so, both have their own advantages.. In what kind of lighting condition will you be using it ? The 1060 is quite brighter and would be more ideal for a room with more light. The 2150 though has wireless capability that the 1060 doesnt have.
Great idea. im going to fasten this to cut 2x4 and then use two rachet straps around the pole. Thanks so much.

I have mine on this screen https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CYLK1BQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it is perfect. It could definitely go bigger if you have the room.
What about this one? I'm pretty sure this is what we ordered.
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B008XGTXWE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1452213227&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=projector+screen&dpPl=1&dpID=41F%2B-OZREHL&ref=plSrch
Yes, I got this one.
Setup was rather tricky, but since it's been on my wall, I've been completely satisfied with it.
Thanks. Yeah, I had this one in mind? Do you think it would be decent in a completely dark room?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014D7Y1XC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505549251&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Epson+720p&dpPl=1&dpID=41xZ-nVVMrL&ref=plSrch
Maximum size you are going to get with these projectors is 88".
Get the short throw projector like this https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-HT1085ST-1080p-Theater-Projector/dp/B00LTMPOUE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469973359&sr=8-2&keywords=benq+st
And you can easily achieve 120" with 7.5 feet throw distance.
Are you in Canada?
Yeah, they call it "gain". It looks like this screen is all the way down to 1.0: https://www.amazon.com/Elite-Screens-Manual-100-inch-Diagonal/dp/B008XGTXWE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468338174&sr=8-2&keywords=elite+screens+100
Basically your blacks will look blacker with a 1.0 screen than a 1.2.
>Mostly at night.
Don't worry about lumens too much then. Focus on other aspects of image quality.
If you're not aware, check www.camelcamelcamel.com for pricing history.
I got the following because i had to clear a ceiling fan since I can't have a dedicated space just for a home theater. It was a huge pain in the ass to assemble. When I moved my wife wanted me to leave but I didn't want to have go thru reassembling a new one so I took it with us. So glad I did.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TUDOQ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I second the 1060 recommendation. The renewed is great value but the new version is also within /u/Yn0tThink's budget. As the other poster mntioned, the 20 foot throw is going to be a problem. The projector does much better at a closer range.
+1 on the Sidebar for distance and throw calculations.
You can build your own screen, which is usually recommended because every room is different. It's also significantly cheaper. I strongly recommend Epson projectors mostly because of features, bulb life, and overall quality.
I bought the following components to build my screen (you can get smaller sizes, mine just happens to be ridiculously huge): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KA7BAA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1[2] https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052YQE7C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1[3] https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JF7IXXU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1[4]
The build:http://imgur.com/a/HXtvB#Jimg8Mg
This is a true OEM Osram replacement, and it’s what I’m currently using.
AWO 5J.J7L05.001 5J.J9H05.001 5J.J6E05.001 Premium Projector Bare Lamp Bulb Replacement For BenQ W1070 W1080ST HT1075 HT1085ST W1070+ W1080ST+ i700 W1

Just buy this lamp and not the housing. Install it wearing rubber gloves so you don’t leave any oils on the bulb and it will be fine.
I was going to go with something like this, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000TUDOQ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1420390211&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
I could always buy a white 2x2 piece of wood and use this mount no?
I also found this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002XHBYS/ref=mp_s_a_1_28?qid=1420390315&sr=8-28&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
If you're happy with your BenQ then I would keep it. The Optoma UHD60 is a 4K projector that's coming out very soon for $2,000 and I'm thinking it's going to shake things up quite a bit. With a 4K projector so cheap, I'm thinking things are going to get a bit cheaper for both 4k and 1080p, being that the gap between 1080p and 4k is closing.
Movable? Do you mean articulating? If so, then yeah. Something like this...
Vantage Point CGUPM12-S Universal Front Projector Mount - Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00067OOHC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GjhSzbZM8RCB2
i think benq 1085ST is a decent option, but not cheap. in that picture, projector is pointed at the table, but what if you aim the projector up, and have it bounce off a mirror on top, then image comes back down. that way you could use a regular projector, but double the throw distance. i was looking at this idea for myself. you're supposed to use a kaledescope mirror
https://www.amazon.com/Front-First-Surface-Mirror-Kaleidoscopes/dp/B01HGF5CZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468383049&sr=8-1&keywords=surface+first+mirror
I just posted this same reply elsewhere but my top two options if you can go to the $500 range are Optoma HD 143X for $499 and Epson 2150 for $699.
you want at least 1280x800(720) native resolution. projector central or avsforum is my go to for projector information. i dont watch youtube reviews cause most of the time they are linked with affiliate links to sale the projectors for them to make money.
to check to see if you would like that resolution the viewsonic has head on down to walmart and pick up their rca projector they are selling right now and try it out. do do yourself a favor. get wxga at least
and no there is no affliate links
https://www.amazon.com/Epson-Cinema-Brightness-Theater-Projector/dp/B014D7Y1XC/
link to amazon for you to compare if you haven't already
I’m not sure about brands or what models are good for anything to do with projectors.
I found this that retails for $329 Canadian, which would leave me with $1300-1500 for a projector.

I would be looking into 4k. No sense spending 9k on a theater room where you will be unhappy with the projector 3 years from now.
If I were to purchase a new projector today, it would be the Optoma UHD60 or UHD65 $1999 and $2500. Im holding on to my 1080p projector for another year or so, with the hope that home 4k projectors break the $1000 - $1200 range.
