Just get a component/composite to hdmi converter. Best option is amazon or monoprice. Just know that the image quality from the PS2 isn't going to be great since the output has always been a little muddy which CRTs helped to hide. If your TV has a Ypbpr option it should have the port, is there any kind of panel it could be hidden under? This is the one I bought and it works well for me.

amazon.co.jp - Most games are under 1000 yenners.

Go to a convenience store and exchange cash for an Amazon gift card. Use the gift card to buy any game you want.

Fun fact: "Shadow of the Colossus" is called "Wander and the Colossus" in Japan. It's also really expensive for some reason. Ico can be had for cheap. Also Lara Croft had a different name on the back of the PSX case, IIRC.

My shopping cart includes Kuon and Strawberry Marshmallow

I bought this SATA adapter from the eBay seller in the listing. It arrived faster than the scheduled delivery date. I went with this option because I wanted to keep the capabilities of the official Network Adapter. It's a pretty easy install even for beginners.

I wasn't sure how many games I would install alongside adding Free HDBoot, so I went with a 500GB hard drive given I heard of some issues with some 1TB brand IDE hard drives depending whether your system wants to play nice with it or not. I picked up the Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 from Amazon. It connects and runs flawlessly. Maybe someone else can chime in about this adapter and working 1TB hard drives if you go that route.

I ended up going with the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 Adapter, also found on Amazon. I was able to connect and format the hard drive and also install PS2 games with no problem.

I hope this information helps you.

Oh, that's right. I forgot HDLoader can rip discs right from the PS2 drive.

No, OPL does not do this, but it's much better for playing the games. It's really not hard to rip and install with a PC. You just need an external dock or a cable like this.

The MadCatz Dual Force is my favourite PlayStation controller, but sadly it lacks the pressure-sensitive buttons of the DualShock 2 as it's designed for the original PlayStation. It's a lot more comfortable than the awkwardly cramped and sharp-edged Sony offerings, at least, thanks to its increased bulk and rubber grips. Apparently they released a sequel but I've not yet picked it up to give it a go.

I purchased a 128 MB memory card from Amazon. Specifically this one.

It works perfectly fine. I've tested about 20 games, and have not had any issues with it.

Do you also need the power cable? I believe the PS3 power cable will work. So will any Vizio TV power cord, as well as a few assorted electric razor cords, boombox cords, and some older printer/scanners. (This only applies to the fat models!)

As for the video cables... We need to know a little more about your TV. Does it only do composite (3 plugins) or will it also do component (5 plugins)? If it will do component, I'd go with those. It's a much clearer picture on modern flat screen TV's.

Composite cables (Amazon): https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Composite-AV-Cable-PlayStation2/dp/B00004U8QX

Component cables (Amazon): https://www.amazon.com/Component-V-Cable-Playstation-2/dp/B00005MDZD

Slim Power cord (Amazon, picked because of excellent reviews): https://www.amazon.com/Slim-AC-Adapter-Playstation-2-Pc/dp/B00255V7JQ

Thank for the info, I had some misconceptions but you cleared them up. I'll probably get the setup you stated above when I have my own ps2 (seems a bit pricey for a donation to my university), currently i'm going to setup a PS2 for some club in my university (out of my pocket). I've had some luck and found this to be cheaper, do you think the quality and lag would be acceptable for a a 17" crt monitor?

u/xenomorph343 · 1 pointr/ps2

Any noteworthy differences between that one and the more popular RCA ones like this one?

u/Trilkhai · 3 pointsr/ps2

This is the one I got a couple of months ago, it works perfectly and is only $6:

The PS2 came out in 2000, I think you're thinking of the PS1. Anyway, for a TV, you'll want to look for a PS3 Component video cable. Something like this. Monitors are iffy with old consoles.

This was one of the first games I ever got for my PS2 back in the day along with Spiderman, Maximo (Which I ended up trading in at Gamestop b.k.a Electronics Boutique back then), and Dr. Muto. I remember these specifically because for the longest time, they were the only games I had for the PS2.

I honestly don't remember the order in which I acquired the rest of my games, though, but I do remember getting Tekken 4 the day it was released. The only time I'd ever gotten a game on day one. (Most of my collection is pre-owned, I've only ever gotten a slight few games for $50).

I bought a logitech official wireless controller last week, nice controller, but bloody huge, at least in my hands. Worth a look:

u/PsycoMutt · 1 pointr/ps2

I got it from a pawn shop for free.

It's largely hollow, but I haven't taken it apart.

This is the one I have.

u/accaris · 1 pointr/ps2

I had been eyeballing this one because it's just easier to go with component over SCART, but I'll do SCART if I have to.

> V2v pro converter
How is the quality of it? According to the listing

https://www.amazon.com/Jrelecs%C2%AE-Video-Monitor-Converter-Switcher/dp/B00UWDIEGW

> "It will auto-detect and auto-convert the YPbPr signal from 480i to 1080p."
Does that mean it would be effect the quality the same is if you where plugging the ps2 through YPbPr to a lcd tv?

u/SolotheHawk · 1 pointr/ps2

This one is the exact one I purchased. I'd say it's not much more convenient than connecting it directly to your PC when you have to deal with all the wires, but I don't have an IDE port on my motherboard so I don't have a choice.

u/LudusElectricus · 2 pointsr/ps2

The PS3 has component cables that are backward compatible with the PS2. I found some official ones here:

Consider an official used one from Amazon.com.

This one? I was thinking about buying it, but was worried it was fake. Yours is legit? What seller did you purchase from?

u/slimjim72384 · 1 pointr/ps2

No problem. Just google them. There are plenty of reviews and gameplay vids to help you decide which ones may be best for you.

The Thing is $5 on Amazon

I dont think you will find Haunting Ground for nearly as cheap

You can probably find Cold Fear for $5

The Suffering games are probably $10 a piece

Run LIke Hell is probably under $5

Alone in the dark is around $15

The X Files game runs about $20

Echo Night is proabbly $30+

LIfeline is Cheap too, but I think you need a headset to issue commands.

The Evil Dead games were fun and would be cheap as well, but definitely more action than survival.
