I'm just going to copy and paste my previous post in this same subreddit from a couple of hours ago. As the AutoModerator has pointed out, it's not 100% safe to go online. However, I've been playing online for years and, because I've taken the proper precautions, I've never been banned. And even if you're banned, you can take steps to become unbanned. Which is worse though - never taking the risk of going online or eventually getting banned? The outcome is the same (not being online), but one robs from you the opportunity of having fun in the online PS3 world.

Previous post:
"There is always a risk with being banned when going online with a jailbroken PS3. With the use of proper programs, the risk is minimal.
To go online with a jailbroken PS3, download and install the latest version of PSNPatch. You then have to run the program immediately before connecting to PSN (i.e. after you've loaded a game if you're using Cobra). You run it by going into it and simply pressing "X" one time - after which the PS3 will beep.
This program disables the jailbroken features of your PS3 and turns off "system calls", and also deletes your app usage history. All of this together 99.999% of the time prevents Sony from detecting your system is jailbroken when you connect.
I would also recommend installing the PSNPatch Plugin - which actually prevents you from connecting to PSN until after PSNPatch has been used, preventing accidental sign in and subsequent banning. To install, go into PSNPatch and press "select", then press up on the D-pad, then press start. Easy peasy."

To answer your other questions, everything works the same as if you were on a normal PS3 (because PSNPatch shuts off all of the jailbroken features). The process, as I've described above, is less than 30 seconds long each time you connect. Go into PSNPatch, hit "X", and you're ready to go. Even though it is almost 2016, Sony still cares about jailbreaking. As far as saved data goes, the data is bound to the console - not to your PSN account. If you get banned you will still be able to access your saved data.

I run a 1 TB hard drive. I recommend a Samsung Spinpoint drive. The largest a PS3 can run is a 1.5TB. However, if you have a large hard drive for your computer (internal or external) you could always just transfer games over to it via FTP whenever you're in the mood to play a specific game. It only takes about 10 minutes per game depending on a few factors.

there might be better option, but I use this and it works

yes it's an external one. I took the HDD off the case and installed it on my PS3

Not all USB chargers are the same, I have some chargers that will charge them, and others that won't. I'm not entirely clear what the difference is but ll the higher quality ones seem to work.

Or get a dock to keep them neat and charge them.

I don't believe there's any way to do this aside from a really long HDMI cable or one of those wireless HDMI transmitters

Also, according to what I've read, there are external HDDs which are not compatible on NTFS with the PS3 (at least on multiMAN/mmCM). Mine is, however I don't know if the one I'll buy will be. I got mine to work by installing something called PFS driver on multiMAN/mmCM's file manager. I never used usb.conf or whatever that file is like I've read to do in other places.

EDIT: I was searching for a 1.5 TB 2.5" internal HDD for the PS3 and after finding this (https://www.amazon.com/1-5TB-5400RPM-32MB-Drive-Super/dp/B01EDLE0H0/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8) one some users reported problems (although most of them didn't). Maybe I should get a 1 TB HDD instead of a 1.5 TB one although I can also have problems with the latter, I guess.

Bro, I know your pain. I went through the same exact situation as you. We even have the same model slim ps3. Do yourself a favor and use a clamp. My dumps would always turn out bad with tape, pressure with my thumb, etc. The clamp solved it for me 100%. Also, whatever you do, DO NOT TRY TO FLASH A DUMP UNLESS YOU'RE 100% SURE THE CLIP IS PLACED PROPERLY ON THE CHIP. I ended up bricking my console that way and had to bust a mission to unbrick it. If it helps, look at my submission history and you'll see the threads I posted and how others helped me out with that error.

This is the exact clamp I used to unbrick and flash my patched dump.
