First: congrats and you got this.

Second: Get a bar style door stopper for your bedroom or entrance doors. If you have an old door, it can really help and it's adjustable for just about every type of door. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/South-Main-Hardware-810185-Adjustable/dp/B0742TN5X6

Third: If you have an old cell phone, get the Alfred app on both the old phone and your current phone. Use it the first couple weeks of moving in to make sure your landlord isn't a skeeze. Use it when you have an incoming repair. If they see it, tough. If you have a pet, and you need an excuse that's not "I don't trust you", tell them it's for saying hi to the pet.

Fourth: Don't be afraid of your neighbors, but use good judgement. In the end, good neighbors are worth their weight in gold.

Fifth: ALWAYS carry a key no matter where you go, or hide a key well to get back into your house if you don't have a friend to hold a spare for you. Getting back in is pricey. If you have a dog, put a key on the leash. That has saved me more than once.

Sixth: Get EVERYTHING in writing when it comes to apartment related repairs or agreements between roommates, lease renewals, anything. This will legally protect you later if needed. Email can be saved or printed and is good, but in writing is better.

Seventh: When moving in, prior to moving in, take a gazillion photos of every nook and cranny of your new apartment. Write down on paper everything you notice. Scratches, dents, scuffs, nail holes, etc. Give a copy of that list to the landlord (good landlords ask you to create that list usually). BE THOROUGH. Even if you're joining a household already, take photos. You want to be able to say, uh, I didn't cause this damage, it was here before I moved in.

Eighth: Should be higher up. Go to https://www.crimemapping.com/ to see if the apartment you want is located in a shitty area. All cities have crime, it's about what you're willing to deal with.

You should get locks that automatically lock after they've been opened. They're more expensive but well worth not having to deal with the hassle and you can take them with you when you leave. Just save the originals.

Get one of those mini garbage cans and put it on the edge of the tub. If she's anything like me, she's in a rush and isn't thinking about the little things. The can might just be the reminder she needs for that extra step.
