I'm using a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm on my Mini-30, using it for deer hunting in woods/hills (50-100 yard shots at most).

I've only had it one season but it has netted me a deer so far and has been enjoyable to use.


Pros: clear, good low-light, not overpowered (2x is good for close shots, 7x is about the reach of the mini-30)

Cons: Have to really double down on the lock-tight, mount came loose causing me to completely miss my second deer.

If I could Trade: Not really, at least none come to mind. I have a 3x-9x on my .270 and I think it's under-powered for that gun, but for my mini-30 the 2x-7x is comfortable.


I used the Wheeler scope mounting kit for mine, overkill if you are just doing one (local gunshop would be happy to do it) but useful for me as I have several guns and I have a bunch of family and friends who have used it, after your second scope mounting it really pays for itself.

Literally the only choice I found for night sights, which is surprising considering how popular the gp100 is. They are awesome once installed- but you will have to grind/ sand them down to get them to fit. It wasn't too bad of a job with a dremel but for the money you wouldn't expect to have to do that. The hammer lock is in the sear; but it also engages the indexing pawl and the cylinder latch - and both of these are exposed when you are doing this work. I would suggest you start there and work your way inward. If I were a betting man, I would place my money on the cylinder latch spring being slightly out of alignment (probably not seating all the way down) with the cylinder latch and not allowing lock-up to occur, although the pawl has much the same effect, and is potentially damaged easily while reassembling the pistol. Another potential problem is if the base pin isn't fully engaged, the mechanism won't work correctly either. This is the easiest to fix (just try to seat the base pin further into the revolver) so try it first. The stronger Base Pin Latch spring can make it a little tougher to seat the base pin correctly; but once it's seated it's locked!

I have a glock 23 and an lcp, and I carry my lcp a whole lot more because of how convenient it is. Your main complaint is the same as mine, I wish it locked open. It may make it more difficult to pocket carry, but I highly suggest getting these for your magazines. I got then and they made a massive difference in my accuracy and speed. I shot my first IDPA tournament with my lcp and while I didn't blow anyone away, my friends and I were surprised how well it performed. I also put a bit of white out on the front post to make it stand out a little more, since I can't just change it out like my glock.

It was incredibly easy to install, and works perfectly. I don't have a holster that it fits, and didn't like that. I honestly prefer shooting with open sights to the red dot, but I should have out the dot back on for hunting season. I'm hoping to have a carry sized 357 soon with groove or fixed sights, and at that point I'll shoot that one for fun, and try to get some distance out of this one.

You can spend a lot less for basically the same thing. I have a few of those inexpensive bags and they do just fine for a range bag. If you want something a bit larger to carry all your gear look at one like this. I have two of those and they hold up great.

I put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 on my 270 American and have been very happy with it. I'm in SC and don't plan to take shots longer than 200 yards or so. The whole package for scope, rings, and rifle came out to right at $500.

I carry my LCP in this every day.

Slim, light, convenient, covers the trigger. I keep it tucked in my waistband at 3:30-4 o'clock. Doesn't budge at all throughout the day. But if your method works for you, great.

The one on my daughters (red/left) is what I'd call an entry-level sight. It is a FieldSport red/green reflex. The one on her buddy's (blue/right) is a C-MORE Systems Railway (not sure which one, exactly). It is definitely not entry-level :-)

I'm just using the factory forend though because for some stupid reason, we can't get any of the handguards up in Canada yet. It looks like you're going to need an M-Lok sling mount to fit your handguard.

It's a regular owb holster with thumb strap if that's really all you need.
