I have been using Cloud Star Buddy Wash Lavender & Mint 2-in-1 Dog Shampoo + Conditioner and it is fantastic. It leaves their fur feeling soft and smelling minty, like peppermint patties. I buy the gallon container and 16oz from amazon and refill the 16oz. I also add 20 drops of peppermint Nature's Truth Essential Oil to each 16oz bottle and it really increases the minty smell. It does not irritate my 3 shelties. Just don't shampoo near their eyes.

To prolong the minty smell, buy Buddy Splash Dog Deodorizer & Dog Conditioner, Easy Spray-On Formula for Grooming and again add 20 drops of peppermint Nature's Truth Essential Oil. Use it on them when they come in from outside to get rid of that doggy sheltie smell. I buy everything from Amazon. See the links below and I hope this helps.

I've tried many different brushes. I really like the simple one listed below. My shelties love it because the soft-ended metal tips feel soooo good. They fight over who gets brushed!

I brush them outside before bathtime and then brush again after the bath while using a low heat hair dryer, spa session style. They're in heaven.

Just the obvious, even it and wait until it grows back.

Regarding the sheltie summer trim question, you aren't really supposed to trim their coats, the hair protects them from overheating and getting sunburns, is my understanding.

I have used undercoat rakes with great success on my shelties though, have you tried those?

I have used this one on Amazon. I use it after I bathe my dogs, once their coat is dry. The warm water is supposed to loosen the undercoat, so the undercoat rake will take more out. One year I swear I had enough fur to make another dog, and my female with the thickest coat looked like she lost 10 pounds after I finished. Of course it took an hour.

Haha this one is pretty cool, it's made so you kind of thread their collar through and then it's just attached to her collar. Kind of like this: https://www.amazon.com/Vaburs-Bandana-Adjustable-Printing-Xs-Black/dp/B07SQPJQKD/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Vaburs&qid=1568899028&sr=8-4

Our last sheltie, in her old and arthritic years, loved her cool-bed. It was a cushioned place to lay that didn't trap heat.

I use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WLQPJ58/

He isn't real fond of the noise but it isn't too loud and he tolerates it. The blower works really well at loosening up the deep fur and blowing it away.

Don't take my word for it though:

(sidenote, she has the exact same nametag as Oakley above....but the sheltie fur covers errrrrrything!)
