Soon, businesses realize that they can invest in technological development to get better capital at a cheaper cost. This allows them to replace workers with comparatively cheaper capital goods and save money. This trend will continue for the foreseeable future.
This is why some say we should not raise the minimum wage. Raising the cost of labor further incentivizes businesses and governments to replace workers with capital. Raise the service wage to $10 an hour, and you may see restaurants using a touch pad technology in place of servers. All sorts of work can, and likely will be done by robots in the coming decades.
