Fellow broke college TO here. My weeklies average around 15 too so i feel like we're in a similar situation. My venue doesn't have good enough internet in the basement to stream to Twitch, so we only record and upload to youtube.

For my laptop, I use a pretty ok, free laptop my college gave me. You don't need anything fancy if you're not streaming.

I use this as a capture card, I got it on sale for like $15. It's far from the best but it really gets the job done and serves its purpose.

http://www.microcenter.com/product/315700/USB_20_Video_and_Audio_Capture_Device

I've also had one of my players recommend me this capture card. I've never used it but I hear it's cheap and it's good.

https://www.amazon.com/I-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y

For the player cam, I use a used camera on got on sale for $11. Once again, it's not great. But it gets the job done on a budget.

For the actual stream layout I found free overlays online, and my homie who's good with photoshop hooked us up with a logo for free.

If you wanna see what we're working with, how it looks, and what the quality looks like here's our Youtube channel.

If you have any questions just hit me up. I'd love to help another little local scene like mine grow!

u/IndomitableBanana · 7 pointsr/smashbros

Purists will hate this suggestion (and the controller is far from perfect) but the PowerA Wireless GameCube Controller is the best third party controller I have used. Better than the Hori Battlepad and WAY better than the PDP Fight Pad Pro.

NB: You’re never going to get the same quality or feel of a first party controller going this route and you will definitely be more prone to dropped inputs, etc. But especially if you’re looking for a casual option that delivers a decent wireless experience with the GameCube form factor (plus home and share buttons) IMO, this is the best option.

u/ComfortableButtSocks · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Honestly, I was in the same boat. Great memories with Smash and my college roommates. Got online to hang out with them when we have time. As long as you don't take every hit seriously and enjoy it for the game, its alright. I use to get mad at the input lag and buttons not working, but I changed to basically play with my friends online (also get a Lan Adapter and tell your friends to as well) and you will have a lot of fun. You might even find another game you guys like to play as well, for us it's Mario Kart, don't drink and drive.

u/DrWeeGee · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This is what I did to ensure excellent online experience

  1. Check that your TV has GAME MODE "on"

  2. Use a WiiU Lan Adapter

  3. Call your internet provider to ensure that your speed is infact, what it should be - also using an internet speed test (try CNET's)

  4. Check your modem/router. I bought a new router which was vastly superior to my old Belkin POS

  5. test your connection with other devices (maybe WiiU hardware issue)

  6. ensure your family/SO isn't hogging the bandwidth while you play.
u/wwintering · 1 pointr/smashbros

Thanks /u/hankydysplasia. Two questions.

1. Since I already got the HORI adapter which I believe is USB 2.0... Do you believe it is worth it for me to go and buy a USB 3.0 adapter as a replacement? Will it have any noticeable affect on my experience? I like to think I would notice the difference but I'm not sure and you seem like an expert... What say you?

2. HORI says it supports 1000BASE-T... which I was led to believe that means it can support Gigabit... yet since it is USB 2.0 and not 3.0 does this mean that HORI is simply being misleading?

Appreciate you.

u/Suic · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Ehh not necessarily. You use an external converter that's dedicated to it to speed up the process and improve the look: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA
And anyway, if you read the comments on the post in my edit, you can see that people have switched to LCDs with good success.

Edit: Also, I'm talking about monitors, not HDTVs, which generally have significantly more lag, but that could have been an unintentional typo

Edit2: The 480i upscaling is also very dependant on the quality of the monitor you're working with. The newer and more expensive, the better the decoding chip generally is. There are again also external decoders that probably work even better.

u/NAEDDDD · 2 pointsr/smashbros

as far as hardware goes, if you have a desktop with a free PCI-e slot and youre comfortable with putting parts into it get a Aver Media Live Gamer HD. If that's not the case go with an El Gato Game Capture HD. Be warned that the El Gato has a small delay on the stream's end (it won't affect you playing), so you'll have to compensate with the streaming software.

That brings us to software which OBS is free and really easy to use.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me.

u/MagneticGray · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Heads up, the Amazon Basics USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter has the AX88179 chipset and is confirmed to work perfectly on the Switch. It's a simply plug-and-play installation.
Just make sure you get the USB 3.0 version and not 2.0 and you're golden.

And FYI, the AX88179 chipset actually has a 2-3% failure rate in the first 6 months so no matter what brand you get, you have a small chance of it dying on you in the first year. So I recommend the Amazon Basics one simply because of their customer service. You know Amazon will gladly send you out a new one no questions asked with 2 day shipping if yours stops working. It's also the cheapest of the bunch as well so that's another plus.

u/Pan--Dulce · 1 pointr/smashbros

This is the one I'm currently using, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 firsthand it's been great. Super stable and it connects very easily. I can't help you with that particular one you're eying but in general I can say they're an awesome investment.

u/RedrickSSBU · 10 pointsr/smashbros

Those aren't Gamecube controllers, they're Wii controllers that look like GC controllers. To actually use one you'd have to plug it into a Wiimote. It'll work on Smash 4, but I'm not sure they'll be supported in Ultimate.

As an alternative, you could try looking for one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Battle-Zelda-GameCube-Controller/dp/B01AD478L6/

https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wired-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXJV9NM/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Wired-Fight-500-100/dp/B07GXB9GW9/

They're new Switch controllers that are GC styled. You can connect them directly to your Switch using the USB ports, no need for an adapter. They probably aren't as cheap as the controllers you found, but they're cheaper than the official GC controllers and they'll definitely work.

If you want a recommendation, get the Hori. That's the only one I've got, and although it's stiffer than the original GCs it's a good product.

u/Yachtnaught · 0 pointsr/smashbros

Editing is not really something a guide can teach in a set time. Good editing requires a mixture of both animating and timing which is mostly acquired through experience.

To get the footage, you would download them from the youtube video or twitch VoD. If you're recording your own, the best device for that is the Elgato.

I use Adobe After Effects CS5 for editing, but a lot of people may also prefer software like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier. You can look up respective tutorials on how to use it (masking, keyframing, etc) and then you're on your way to start editing!

u/yourwifeandkids · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Not sure there's that much variety. This (http://www.amazon.com/Support-UtechSmart-Ethernet-Chromebook-Specific/dp/B00F41TWAO/ref=zg_bs_13983791_10) is the best selling highest rated one on amazon, but I'm pretty sure this is the one officially endorsed by Nintendo (http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Ethernet-Adapter-Nintendo-Port/dp/B003XWD1G2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416550970&sr=1-1&keywords=wii+u+lan+adapter).

I doubt you could go wrong wither way, they both seem pretty solid.

u/MastrWalkrOfSky · 3 pointsr/smashbros

No clue. Probably because it's a workaround. If you have 35 bucks to drop, I'd highly recommend this card:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00428BF1Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=19PXRWYDINS8Q&coliid=I2SHEBGBZQJW43

It's amazing quality, easy with drivers, etc. Works perfectly with OBS once you install the drivers, which there's a tutorial on how to do it in the amazon reviews (it's click a couple boxes, but it's all in Japanese lol).

I use that, with this splitter, and S-video. Here's an example of what it looks like with my setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN9E1OSVgHo

u/bgreathouse19 · 1 pointr/smashbros

I would HIGHLY recommend this one right here (if you enjoy gamecube layout controllers) Ive used this thing for 90+ hours now and have had no input issues or anything whatsoever. Its an all around excellent controller, including gyroscope controls! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_VabPCbYY6JBB5

u/CynicalTree · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Order a GV-USB2 if you need a capture card for your console. It's $50 and works great.

https://www.amazon.com/I-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y

As for recording Faster Melee, use nVidia ShadowPlay if you can (as it will take frames directly from the GPU and have little-no impact on your CPU) or some sort of software that can screen capture (OBS, Fraps, XSplit, Gameshow, etc)

It's a small investment to be able to help each other. Reviewing sets is huge.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/smashbros

Well, just to be fair, on Amazon it's being sold for $138.91

http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-10025010-Game-Capture-HD/dp/B00840353W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416969153&sr=1-1

Which is 40 bucks cheaper than the one I have here, so you could get a fantastic deal there.

However if you don't mind it being used and want a slightly cheaper price, I could sell it for about 90-100 bucks.

u/shortchangehero · 2 pointsr/smashbros

ALSO dude by the way I don't know if you saw some of the other responses to my comment, but there are other alternatives that may work better. Somebody just linked me this fightpad that I'd actually never even seen before, which appears to be a duplicate of the gamecube controller. It plugs into your wiimote.

I've never used one so I can't really comment on whether or not this better, but definitely check this out if you haven't already ordered a pro controller :D

u/ChompsOnTheLoose · 3 pointsr/smashbros

From what I've seen, an Elgato such as this one seems like a good choice. Don't have a clue about capturing Melee though.

Edit: Oh yeah I suppose I saw a Avermedia card that could do both HDMI and component inputs, anyone know anything about that?

u/danielkim90 · 1 pointr/smashbros

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2IZ3B0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00

I got this Avermedia one. I mainly use the PC Free Mode. I've played through about 3 different TVs with this one and have not noticed any lag when playing.

u/theaceplaya · 1 pointr/smashbros

I just got a 3DS XL hand grip attachment (which is awesome) and I really hope it fits on the new one. Do we have dimensions on the new 3DS feat. C-stick yet?

u/eposnix · 1 pointr/smashbros

Make sure you also purchase a LAN adapter. This is the one I use and it works pretty well.

u/Vid-szhite · 1 pointr/smashbros

I've used all manner of adapters at tournies, and I can't tell the difference. My own is a Kelux adapter, came in a generic purple box, and it's perfect. Better looking than Mayflash, at least. Cheaper too.

http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-U-Nintendo/dp/B00SA5IJIM

u/im_lost_at_sea · 0 pointsr/smashbros

Official would probably be the best

I chose these powerA wireless controllers since I don't want to deal with cables. They have worked very well for months however if used extensively the control stick can start to drift. Also they don't contain rechargable batteries so you will have to change the batteries every two months or so.

u/Pikaman454 · -6 pointsr/smashbros

Worth mentioning there are more designs, such as a Pikachu one, a Lugi one, Link, Metal Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, and Samus. There might more designs, but that's all I found.
Regarding quality, they are officially licensed by Nintendo, so they should be good.

u/MrPerson0 · 43 pointsr/smashbros

Please note that the official Nintendo Switch LAN uses the ASIX AX88179 chipset, which is basically the best one for the Switch to use and the one you should recommend. I would completely ignore the first LAN adapter you linked to, and primarily suggest the second one you linked to, or this one which is a few cents cheaper.

u/parion · 1 pointr/smashbros

Well, actually ended getting this today for 23 bucks. And yes, I got Peach's, it was the only one they got. But if I have to lose my dignity to play Smash with a sorta-Gamecube controller, so be it.

u/frenchfriedtatters · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This is what I have. It actually runs on two Double A batteries lol. So I guess it'd be easier to disconnect. Just open the back and take the batteries out!

u/Ninja_looter_Deluxe · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Well in that case you're looking for the PM3.6dev packet, or one of the external fan mods of project M like legacy xp. https://youtu.be/tDY6wK1F1p8

Or something like project M infinity.
https://youtu.be/bGTVx5c3Gqc

Installation of hackless Wii mods on a Wii u works basically the same as installing it on a original wii. All that's required is a 6gb(depending on the modpack) sd card.

However be warned, gamecube controllers do not work in this scenario, and if you want you to use one you'll need to buy a wiimote to gcc converter such as
Mayflash GameCube Controller
Adapter for Wii & Wii U (Dual Pack), White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YH3NWTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GCsDDbVNF1GZ9

Or a gcc that plugs into a wiimote

Another warning: The characters mentioned above are not cut characters, and therefore are in the game via isp mods, not through salvaging data found on disk. Therefore these characters are of a significantly lower quality then the ones found in the base roster, just a warning.

Installing PM into a wii is little more then putting the correct files on the sd card and loading into your wii and running the boot loader.

For PM specifically, all you need to do is load up the stage builder menu and the boot loader will auto run.

u/darkfade · 1 pointr/smashbros

Hey, I know this post is from a month ago, but I am currently doing research on setting up my own lagless setup. I was considering getting this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA

I saw it on that article about the setups they used at EVO, would the wii2hdmi adapter be superior in anyway to that?

u/DeanRich620 · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Elgato is extremely popular and they do have a new 60 fps one that's $22 more than the original one.
Here's a link for them Elgato - Game Capture HD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00840353W/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_cfZHub0S8G48M

Also the avermedia capture cards are fairly popular and have good reviews but if 60fps is a must I believe the Elgato is the cheapest as of right now.

u/DevvyStar · 1 pointr/smashbros

I used this.

Had it for a year now and worked perfectly fine. Although it may not be available in your country, I'm not sure.

u/SmashPandora99 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Official Nintendo Adapter you should probably get this one. It's sold by Nintendo, so I'm sure it works great and won't have any problems

u/theRadiantLight · 1 pointr/smashbros

Kinda. In addition to what the others said, you can use the gc to wiimote adapters by mayflash to play MK8 with gc controllers (link: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B00YH3NWTW). The Wii u thinks the controllers are wii classic pro controllers. It's what I do when I have friends over.

u/smashbrawlguy · 3 pointsr/smashbros

The PowerA Gamecube Controller is basically a Switch Pro Controller (minus rumble and Amiibo scanning) housed in the casing of a Gamecube controller. It's a very faithful recreation of the original, the only difference I've noticed is the addition of the extra buttons.

u/ArchineerLoc · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Definitely. If there was a Master edition or other it would have been announced. If you are willing to wait for the game longer the EU has a different special edition that comes with a game cube controller and adapter. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Ultimate-Limited-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07GBTDS57

u/Nasars · 3 pointsr/smashbros

According to the link, u/i_am_penis posted Tafo used this one but I'm not sure if it's actually the ideal one.

The Amazon rating doesn't look particularly convincing.

u/snakemaster77 · 5 pointsr/smashbros

GVUSB2 is generally considered the best price to quality ratio.

u/mutsuto · 2 pointsr/smashbros

If you're using a pro-controller/ wired fight pad etc you won't be able to use it in locals/ tournaments because they are usually banned [due to accidental reconnects] as these connect into the wii's controller.

If you're using a gamecube controller [i highly recommend], you need an adaptor. I also suggest you get official game cube controllers, as off-brand/ knock-off ones wear out very quickly.

If you're going to be playing only w/ friends or randoms, you'll require and ethernet-usb adaptor [+ some cat5 cable]. You don't need a nintendo branded one, just get one that supports wii u [not all do]. having a fast wifi hub right next to your wii u is unplayable. you need wired connection.

edit: a review if interested.

u/Scratch98 · 1 pointr/smashbros

If you play Xbox, why not use an xbox controller? If you have a wired 360 or a one 1 just get the magic ns adapter. If you have a wireless, you'll need magic ns plus a dongle. It's what I use, since I'm also used to from it being my pc gaming controller of choice.

here's the link

I haven't had any issues with it. Once I get some more $$ will be buying a one s for wireless play, as I have a wired 360 atm.

u/TooManyToosters · 0 pointsr/smashbros

This adapter is actually really good quality and it's only $30. I ordered one a few weeks ago and it works fine.

u/jamrocks · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Try getting a 3ds hand grip. Around 6 bucks on Amazon

Edit: I use this one Found Here

u/CpE_Wahoo · 6 pointsr/smashbros

USB! Check out Amazon for inexpensive adapters that will improve your online gaming on the Switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M77HMU0

u/askerOne · 3 pointsr/smashbros

It depends which card you are buying , there are cheap ones that cost just 30$.Of course their quality isn´t the greatest
Many streamers have one of those 2 :

http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=zg_bs_284824_6

http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-Definition-Recorder/dp/B00840353W/ref=zg_bs_284824_1

-> you don´t need a crazy expensive PC either. The most important thing is your upload speed though.

u/SamassArump · 3 pointsr/smashbros

This is the one I use and it works fine LAN Adapter. Should be easy to find on Amazon.ca

u/josephgee · 1 pointr/smashbros

There are no multiport adapters that work with the Wii U for PM. You need this if you want to use a gamecube controller: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00YH3NWTW

Or just buy a Wii, they are pretty cheap used and then you can play GC games too.

u/TheStoppingLine3 · 1 pointr/smashbros

I bought this one a couple of months ago, and it's been fantastic for me.

u/REVENAUT13 · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I have a GCN to Wii Classic Controller Adapter and I used it so I could play Project M when I had a Wii U and not a Wii. It also is a good way to make your gcn controller wireless and useable on the home screen. Check the amazon link below:
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B00YH3NWTW

u/jellymaster2 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

We use capture cards, they're video capture devices that you either install into a desktop computer(Like the Avermedia LiveGamer HD ) or get a USB one(Such as the Elgato Gamecapture HD ). These devices hook directly into the video output of your WiiU and can record it using software on your computer.

Sm4sh replay files aren't actually video, this is why the WiiU can save so many of them, otherwise the video files would be a decent size. They're basically large text files that tell the game engine what button to press at what time.

u/Huck_Gwai · 1 pointr/smashbros

Same here!

I actually bought an adapter for my Switch that lets me connect my Wii U Pro Controller (which I like more than the Switch version) so my two main controllers will be the Wii U and Switch Pro Controllers.

u/Xauric · 1 pointr/smashbros

Newegg also lists the Wii U version as having a December 31st, 2014 release date, which I'm hesitant to believe, but here's the link anyways.

Amazon also has both products listed for preorder. Wii U and 3DS. While it doesn't have a release date, if memory serves me right, Amazon will not allow pre-orders unless it knows a release date of some sort.

Also putting a picture here to show the release date, in case Nintendo finds it and takes it down.

u/ReemSnow · 1 pointr/smashbros

There's a middle ground if you're interested. A wireless GameCube controller for the switch with motion controls

Edit: found the link
Same price as the GC controller and the adapter together

PowerA Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch - GameCube Style Purple - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8yi4BbPB682ZA

u/Nannose · 1 pointr/smashbros

You also need a proper converter to get minimal lag. Either this or this. Both have been tested to work fine (the C&E supposedly looks better though).

u/bonerificent · 1 pointr/smashbros

I'm 99% sure this works. I have a USB-C to female USB and I've used that with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079B5KHWQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to use my PS4 controller in tabletop mode and it works.

u/BriefStints · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I've been using this one for around 3 months now and it's done right by me. It's licensed by Nintendo and Hori make decent stuff.
Edit: FYI it's a USB controller if that makes a difference to you

u/MiniBandGeek · 2 pointsr/smashbros

$150 is quite an investment, especially if you're not already entrenched in the gaming scene. If OP is just using this to upload smash matches for people to critique, and not trying to make high-quality videos or the like, I'd say that setup is plenty enough.

u/squidnow_amiibo · 3 pointsr/smashbros

I was planning on getting the official nintendo one https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Internet-Officially-Licensed-wii-u/dp/B01N6S068R.

What advantages does the one you link to in the post have over it?

u/Vorcton · 3 pointsr/smashbros

You could always buy an adapter (I got this one that lets you use a variety of controllers).

Be warned you'll need 1 per controller (can't use more than 1 controller on 1 adapter).

I know it isn't the best solution, but definitely cheaper than buying more pro controllers and letting the old ones collect dust.

u/MajorTeacup · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Yeah, the exact one I bought just dropped a bit (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B009LGO88E/), but seems like we got it at a low point. fist bump

u/fartoomanyguardsmen · 9 pointsr/smashbros

You can use the WiiU one, but there are bundles with the game, a controller and adapter available.

Amazon has it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Ultimate-Limited-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07GBTDS57/

Out of stock from Nintendo UK Store - https://store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-switch-game/super-smash-bros.-ultimate-limited-edition-steelbook/11847698.html

However, I haven't seen a bundle of just the game and adapter without GC controller; and the adapter on its own says currently unavailable wherever I look.

u/Messyproduct · 1 pointr/smashbros

This is the adapter I use:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079B5KHWQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2YXWBb5YSHBA2

I know for a fact it works with wii mote+nunchuck after a firmware update, and the input lag is very minimal. Hope this helps.

u/IAmTehDave · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This

It's a Classic Controller (Plugs into the nunchuck slot of the WiiMote)

Edit: I'm using two of them myself and it's not bad. Can't compare to a WiiUPRo controller or a GC controller right now. Of note: I always used a Wavebird for Melee/Brawl. (Yeah, super-casual I know.)

u/Sages · 1 pointr/smashbros

http://meleeiton.me/2014/03/27/this-tv-lags-a-guide-on-input-and-display-lag/

They did a test with a comparable monitor and the adapter + LCD combo gave < 6 ms of lag.

Seems like high end video capture devices give less lag but regular converters still aren't bad.

These are the converters they used.

Standard converter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA

I would recommend this, or if you're looking to save money, this. There were some 3ds XL Trigger Grips on eBay, but it seems they no longer sell them.

u/Smilotron · 13 pointsr/smashbros

FAVOLCANO Easycap ($11). See capture quality here.

i-o Data GV-USB2 ($35). See capture quality here.

Diamond VC500 ($36). See capture quality here.

Dazzle Video Capture ($44). See capture quality here.

Hauppauge 610 ($49). See capture quality here.

To capture from these you would need a computer, an AV splitter, and some software to capture video (like OBS).

u/ShokoFlow · 4 pointsr/smashbros

I think /u/8drawr means the pro controller but the actual pro pad is a tool for the 3DS

u/SaltAndTrombe · 15 pointsr/smashbros

This thing is compatible, among other adapters.

u/Crabgot_Cakes · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Does a bundle make everything cheaper overall? I was thinking of getting a refurbished Wii U for $200 and the controller/adapter/game combo for a $100. So that's $300+tax. Would the bundle be around that price if they did do a bundle?

u/nekojanai · 1 pointr/smashbros

Since I couldnt find an adapter I bought this Wii U Fight Pad Controller. It's decent.

u/Thranth · 1 pointr/smashbros

You cannot use gamecube controllers, however you can plug PDP fightpads into your wii-mote and use those, they feel almost identical http://www.amazon.com/PDP-Wired-Fight-Pad-nintendo-u/dp/B00LSBNSJA

Actually, the 8Bitdo adapter doesn’t work for Wiimote + Nunchuk, as seen at 7:10 of the second video you linked. What you can use, is Mayflash’s Magic NS adapter. Video. Amazon Link

the PowerA Gamecube imitation pro controllers have octagonal notches. They come in wired and wireless, and based on the research I've done they seem really highly regarded.

RECENT SHENANIGANS TO KEEP MINDFUL OF:

  • Supposedly, some kind of Nintendo video presentation is happening at a Nintendo event in Canada this Thursday.

  • Rumor has it that there's a real leaked image that "ruffled Nintendo's feathers", according to a guy who hinted at Cloud's inclusion in SSB4 before it was revealed.

  • Some retailers are listing the game as having 71 unique fighters at launch. (Although this isn't quite news, if you follow leaks, then this would leave room for Incineroar, Steve, and the Square-Enix rep, plus Echo Fighters like Ken, presuming that none of the characters described are DLC.)

In short its a theory based off this Amazon listing for the Smash Bundle. It shows 2 empty slots at the end, one is for Isabelle, one is for the last proper newcomer. In addition, based on the pattern in which characters are listed it implies 1 echo fighter on the other side, specifically between Palutena and Cloud.

I bought one of these and it's helped out. Not perfect, but makes your end more reliable.

no. Fight pads feel horrible on smash. Also instead of using the adapters I've been using these and they feel near perfect:

They feel just like the gamecube controller, but function as classic controllers

Xbox 360 Controller.

If you already have a controller and it’s a bit worn out, rebuild kits can be purchased online or you can buy another 360 controller.

It’s overall same price as a Pro Controller for this setup but I prefer the bigger thumb sticks and more fluid buttons of the Xbox controller. Vibration features also work so it’s incredible imo.

What's a good one? I have this one but I don't know if it's worth a damn.

Like I said it does over-gamma the signal a bit. An alternative also tested as lagless is this C&E component to HDMI. It doesn't over gamma the signal, but requires you have the wii component cables. It has bad reviews but supposedly works and most of the reviews seem like they are from people who know nothing about technology.

I got this one Feels like an xbox one controller, so really comfy. Only problem is that its hard to get your XL out once its in. Does keep it snug though.

You do realize that there is no LAN adapters in the page you just linked.

Also OP, this one here should be fine.

u/staye7mo · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Yeah no problem mate, although the Bundle has shot back up to 89.99, I'm assuming it was due to some fault: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GBTDS57/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is a screenshot of my order at 74.99(79.99 pre discount)

If you preorder it, and the price drops again it'll be sold to you at the lowest price. But it doesn't work the other way round luckily for me.

My down/up aren't nearly as high on the console as they are on every other device in my household, but they're more than adequate.

I've done a tiny bit of research, and from what I understand, up/down speeds aren't super important in online gaming; ping is. I've pinged my Wii U a few times, and it's always within acceptable gaming parameters, with 0% packet loss. I can't say as much for the people I'm matched up with, though, and that, I assume, is the reason for the input lag I experience.

I have no idea how matchmaking works in the game, but the logical assumption, it being 2014 and all, is that location is taken into account when choosing who to match with whom. If that is, indeed, the case, then I'm just really unlucky and keep getting matched against people with high ping.

This is clearly an issue with either the console or the game, as every other online game I play has zero input lag. Either way, it's out of my hands, as is, for now, my controller.

EDIT: Just ran a couple more tests. Had the same ping with and without the LAN adapter, and actually had double the down speed (same up) without the LAN adapter.

Lesson learned: Avoid this LAN adapter.

Some people say that this device does a pretty good job of reducing input lag. I have limited experience with it in this regard, but some people (such as Scar I believe) use it in combination with one of the very low lag displays from here: display lag database
