Does it need to be TNG specific? If anything Trek is fair game this pizza cutter is pretty clever.
I always think custom ice cubes are pretty fun also.
Again, this is more Voyager than Next Generation, but a cooking book with Neelix on the cover would make me laugh too.
Hope these help. There are tons of stuff. I'm sure you'll do great!
I love Star Trek and honestly didn't even know the anniversary was coming up. While there will always be a special place in my heart for Kirk and the original crew I'm 27 so Next Generation will always be my personal favorite.
I remember running across the family room in my one piece pajamas with my arms out making whooshing noices to the opening. I still get goosebumps when I hear Patrick Stewart say "Space the final frontier".
So in honor of the 50th anniversary I spent the big bucks and got me one of these.

I just don't understand this reaction and frankly I'm surprised to see so much of it. Did people not realize this was a promotional event organized in conjunction with the release of the Season One Blu-Ray set which, by no coincidence at all, was released today?
And how did the two unedited, remastered episodes without commercial breaks feel like an advertisement? How did the two short featurettes about the remastering process, which will be included in the Blu Ray sets as bonus materials, feel like an advertisement? The two commercials for the Season One and Season Two Blu-Ray sets were commercials, but they were at the very end and heck, the season two commercial was brand new and really got me excited about it.
I don't get it. We saw two episodes, we saw a lot of bonus content about the show that included some really cool behind-the-scenes stuff (the original Star Trek TNG logo from 1986, the really hilarious screen tests, etc) - how can anyone complain about all of that?

I got the ST:TOS blu-rays for $50-60 each, I waited for sales on amazon and got 1 as a Christmas gift. Consider the number of episodes for each season, 29,26,24 plus bonus content and that you can watch the original effects and the new effects and that the transfer from film is gorgeous it's an epic deal.
If you bought the first season at say the high price of $70, then you are paying roughly $2.40 an episode. So that is $2.40 for nearly an hours worth of entertainment and considering that you are going to re watch them the price goes down from there.
Now I looked at Buffy the vampire slayer slim sets for comparison and a 22 episode season was under $20, but that's a repackaged dvd set and the price has gone down on them, but Star Trek is going to stay relatively high due to demand and that it has such a fan base, kind of how it's hard to find a deal on Disney dvd's and blu-rays.
Watch Camelcamelcamel.com and you can find when the sets are at their lowest. I got mine separate but the 3 season set is a great deal.
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Star-Trek-Original-Seasons-Blu-ray/product/B002PQ7JQK
show it was at a low of $143.49 back in December Which is under $50 a season.
I think the success of this release has paved the way for the Next Gen release which looks spectacular but I will be bargain hunting when they come out.
You can always stream netflix for all episodes of all series.

Wow, you're right. The opening paragraph was promising but then it's all like: "nope." "Yep." "Nope."
For an in-depth discussion of the subject, I enjoyed The Physics of Star Trek.
There are tons of episodes that deal with developing AI--Data's introduction in the pilot (his talk with Riker) probably has a couple gems, though I can't think of them off the top of my head. You might also look at episodes like
"The Ultimate Computer" (TOS), "Quality of Life" (TNG), "Measure of a Man" (TNG), etc. Voyager had some good AI moments with The Doctor, too--"Author, Author," deals with the personal rights of what is essentially a computer program, for example. I believe there was an episode in Voyager with a sentient bomb as well...Dreadnaught? If I weren't at work I'd like nothing better than to watch Star Trek all day and get you some quotes. :)
Also, I'll refer you to an excellent (though probably outdated) book by Lawrence Krauss: The Physics of Star Trek:

They are fucking awesome. I wear them when I am hosting my Star Trek adventures role play (also got badges for my players).
I also picked up some Spock aftershave as a bit of a joke to wind up my girlfriend. She barely tolerates my Trek obsession.

In my digging I found this book.
Quote (Originally by Terry Farrell, who played Jadzia Dax):
> “In my opinion, he’s just very misogynistic. He’d comment on your bra size not being voluptuous. His secretary had a 36C or something like that, and he would say something about “Well, you’re just, like, flat. Look at Christine over there. She has the perfect breasts right there.” That’s the kind of conversation he would have in front of you. I had to have fittings for Dax to have larger breasts. I think it was double-D or something. I went to see a woman who fits bras for women who need mastectomies; I had to have that fitting. And then I had to go into his office. Michael Piller didn’t care about those things, so he wasn’t there when you were having all of these crazy fittings with Rick Berman criticizing your hair or how big your breasts were or weren’t. That stuff was so intense, especially the first couple of years.
Ooh that's a good shout! I may give it a shot if I have some good card.
It's the Star Trek Stardate Collection in BluRay, I bought it (here.)[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BKN6ZP0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-jGlzb7FHQTPX] It's the first 10 films and two disks of bonus features, the case I'm not a huge fan off but I do really like this set!
The diamond select ships are amazing quality for the price (which is originally in the ballpark of about $50). As noted, the D comes with two stands, and it separates. Quality products
The D is quite a detailed ship. It looks great as a model, but the TOS ship is my favourite Diamondselect because it's so plain that the model really is amazingly realistic.
Edit: It seems that the "D" is listed on their site with a list price of $99.99. I don't recall paying that much for it though.
Edit2: The Future "D" that diamondselect also lists as $99.99 is available on amazon.ca for $90 CAD (which is less in USD).
I'm not sure if the original "D" is still in production which is one reason it may be more expensive to find now.
I have a book that does exactly this, but it only goes up to 2nd season Voy. It started life as a notes collection used in-house so they could try to keep their own stories straight due to the creeping complexity of the unfolding universe. It's called Star Trek Chronology (History of the Future) strangely enough, and it's fucking awesome.
Are you looking to do something classy/romantic, or are you going for silly/sexy/funny? For the latter maybe print out a photo on edible icing to put on the cake? For example take a screenshot of sexy Riker but photoshop her fiance's head on him. http://tng.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/publicity/season4/s4_riker.jpg
Getting a mold to do insignias in chocolate/candy to decorate might be an easy way to Trek it up too. For example https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Starfleet-Silicone-Cube/dp/B00FS1S3CS or https://www.amazon.com/ICUP-Star-Trek-Cube-Tray/dp/B00KWBHH2Q
This is the one I have, it’s pretty good in realism

Definitely an interesting read: The Ethics of Star Trek
Are these the ones you are referring to? I ask because Amazon seems have folded it together with an older DVD release of it and I want to make sure this is indeed the HD remaster and not just the originals on Blu Ray.
EDIT: Nevermind. Just started the Amazon Prime available episodes and this is DEFINITELY remastered.
They aren't actually salt and pepper shakers - they're tea infusers. You can buy them on Amazon here, but I hope you've got the budget for them: http://www.amazon.com/Alessi-90043-Tea-Infusers/dp/B000YOQCDG
Not to mention there is already a book about it. Voyager homecoming is all about the crews lives once they get back to earth. It fills the needs of the people that would be interested quite well.
You would enjoy reading Mark Altman's & Ed Gross's books "The Fifty Year Mission", if you haven't already. It's broken up into two volumes, one for TOS & their movies, and the other for the 24th century voyagers.
https://www.amazon.com/Fifty-Year-Mission-Generation-Uncensored-Unauthorized/dp/1250089468
I don't recommend that you buy these, they've actually cut out features that were in other sets and not added anything new. I got the Stardate Collection, it was £30 on sale and contains all ten movies, a lot of special features and two bonus discs. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Stardate-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B00BKN6ZP0
Well, you can get one of those right now if you like.

The Blu Rays I mentioned are on sale right now. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PQ7JQK/ $80 + free shipping!
The Ethics of Star Trek, a pretty decent book. Do you use it in your course?
Came here to post the same thing. Glad someone else was on it already! I saw the same message over at amazon.com as I recently purchased from there for $60. (See now the price is higher:D does not matter though, I would have gladly paid full price of $129.99.
Ghost edit: Formatting
> Did Janeway and Voyager really cripple the Borg when they destroyed the transwarp hub? Or are they merely licking their wounds, and preparing to lay a beatdown on the Alpha Quadrent the likes of which we've never seen.
You should read Homecoming and The Farther Shore and that will answer your question :)
I'll just put this here:

Seems like a ripoff of The Physics of Star Trek from 2007
That TNG Blu-Ray wasn't a "best of" disc, but a preview of what the season sets were going to be like. It wasn't like they were testing the waters, the Blu-Ray sets were already coming.

Why do they always have to be so glossy? :-/ The communicators on the show were non-glossy.
I wanted to chime back in to say I still haven't had a chance to listen to this thing, but if you do buy it on CD, you should look into the expanded edition released recently.

IIRC, that was a mug made by Nissan Thermos. They were quite expensive.
EDIT: Here's what they looked like.
EDIT 2: The stainless steel coffee mugs used on Voyager were also by Thermos Nissan. They were Double Espresso Mugs, model JMJ185.
EDIT 3: The Bloodwine mugs seen on Klingon ships were stainless steel measuring cups.

You mean, like this?
I haven't had to look at it myself yet, but there's an in-universe 'history textbook' that might answer some of your questions:

Here's the reading order for the entire Trek Relaunch Series.
Homecoming is the first relaunch book, but the String Theory Trilogy (Pre relaunch) sets up events that are concluded in later relaunch books.

This used to exist in book form. I had the book but I can't recall if Voyager was finished or if Enterprise was even out yet when it was published.
Edit: Found it. Just up to TNG though. I wish I knew what happened to my copy :(
You're in luck...with buying the mug and some printing from a website...Unless you can find it in stock somewhere on the amazon page or you could buy it with some printing already on it and take that off - although both shops I link to are from Malaysia.

> I really, really want them, but I know they're going to come out with a complete box set after the 7th, and that'll come down to $99.
I know TOS is only 3 seasons, but Paramount didn't release a complete series box set for those Blu-rays (you can buy all three seasons together on Amazon... but there's no box and there's nothing extra included). So... don't hold your breath.
I had the HD version of this episode for a few years. It was called The Next Level and it had 3 TNG episodes in HD on Blu Ray.
Encounter at Farpoint, Sins of the Father and the Inner Light.

As for why, it's both of the things you mentioned. Farrell claims that Berman acted pretty skeevy towards her a lot of the time. No outright "sleep with me or your fired" but some things she found inappropriate over the years. Berman doesn't really comment on that part of it. Also, she wanted to do Dax as a reduced role during the seventh season, doing maybe half the episodes. Berman (Or, Paramount, as Berman claims) apparently wouldn't budge, insisting on full-time or no-time, and thought she'd buckle. She didn't buckle, so she left. Apparently this all happened without involving Ira Behr, who seems pretty pissed that the whole thing happened at all, but both management and Farrell chose not to involve him.
