Use with Meguiar's Plast-X (included) to work quicker and more effectively than you can by hand...
It doesn't make you sound dumb, I'd rather see something unique and cool instead of the same mods that are done over and over again.
If you're looking into RallyX have you thought about swapping over to Forester suspension to raise it up a bit?
I'd go the Cobb AccessPort route instead of tactrix because of the simplicity and now that the V3 has come out, the V2 is around $100 cheaper I think. But if you're comfortable doing it that way do it.
I'm not sure if it's just the picture but the headlights look a bit foggy. I used this on my first car a few years ago and it worked great. Most of the other headlight restoration kits are bullshit. You could also bake them open and paint the plastic pieces black to spice things up.
If yellow foglights are your thing I used this on my Subaru and I love it. Just takes around 5 light coats on the outside of the fog lights and you're good to go. Much better than any of the tint overlays or light bulbs.
Here's some information on it. Daniel Stern is pretty well known as the lighting expert.
Another thing you could consider if you want to mix things up is plastidipping your car. DipYourCar has some wild colors, Sunset Orange and Tiffany Blue are my personal favorites. I'd stay away from the normal black though, it normally makes cars look pretty trashy.
Hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm telling you what to do with the car, just giving suggestions. Good luck!
honestly, i wouldn't get either of those. yeah they're both good, but you really don't need all of that.
what i use:
griot's garage clay
meguairs soap
mothers cleaner wax
nu finish
and of course a (or a couple) 5 gallon buckets with a grit guard , which is completely not necessary, but highly recommended by professional detailers. i don't use one, and my car comes out fine. and a good, soft wash mitt. either a good sponge or a wheel brush for your wheels would be needed as well.
my once a year routine is as follows:
wash, claybar, nu polish, cleaner wax
usually wash every 2 weeks or so, and rewax every 6 weeks or so. if i did a bunch of off roading and the paint is gritty i'll clay as needed, but usually it's once a year.
also head over to /r/autodetailing for a lot of tips. beware though that they use a lot of very high end products, and circle jerk over polishing and getting perfect reflections. if all you're looking to do is keeping your paint in good condition, then what i do is just fine. if you're interested in keeping your paint better than factory, follow them.
You might enjoy us over on /r/battlewagon. :)
Here's my light bar setup. I used this for my roof light and this for my front light.
Although my top one isn't wired in yet, I've powered it up and it's brightness is ridiculous. The front one is extremely bright as well and it is hooked up.
I would highly recommend both of those bars. :)
When what dried? Did you seal it? If you used a sealer before you buffed and polished the lens that's what could have caused this. What you need to do is restart. Sand the sealer off, and then take it easy with the sanding. And by sanding
I mean wet-sanding. I hope you weren't just using sandpaper and no lubricant lol.
Wet-sand it back down till it's smooth and hazy. Then take some rubbing compound and then buff the hell out of it till it's clear. I went crazy with mine and buffed them for a couple hours each, but i go overboard on everything. After it looks clear, wipe off the excess and let it dry. Then spray your sealant on it. Like spray paint if you get too close it'll drip, too far it won't cover fully.
I actually wet-sand mine with the 3M restoration kit: https://www.amazon.com/3M-39084-Headlight-Restoration-Kit/dp/B006VB8JTQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1493511799&sr=8-4&keywords=3m+headlight+restoration+kit
And for a sealer i used: https://www.amazon.com/Presta-137306-Headlight-Sealant/dp/B0082LFOFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493512126&sr=8-1&keywords=renulite.
Expensive sealer I know. But I did research on it and a lot of shops use it. They actually give 3 year 30k mile warranties with it when they would redo headlights for people. So it's a good product. I used it on mine about 4 years ago and it's just starting to come off.
Hope this helps!
yep i use a rotary buffer to buff, then [NuFinish] (http://www.amazon.com/Nu-Finish-Liquid-Car-Polish/dp/B000BPSW7C/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1408709206&sr=1-1&keywords=nu+finish) to polish. I'm sure any good polish will work, but that's what i use. and i messed up my comment above. You buff, THEN polish.
Also, if you don't have a spray gun, you can use a 2k bomb clear can not be found in stores. it's does better than a normal spray can of clear coat. a normal spray can probably wouldn't look too bad, but the 2k stuff will do better. the 2k can has a hardener that makes the lens much more UV resistant to fading. Since you seem like you are going to try this: let the clear coats sit and dry a day, then run that over with a 2k sandpaper before you buff then polish it.
Yeah, turbo failures on the XTs aren't uncommon and can cause a total engine failure when they blow. Have fun, give her all she's got every once in a while, but don't rag the engine out, and stay on top of those oil changes with full synthetic. Your manual will say 7,000 miles but Subaru amended it to be 3,750 miles after seeing a lot of turbo failures. If you're mechanically inclined, do it yourself and save $40-$50. I bought a six pack of Subaru filters on Amazon for $35 or so and a pack of crush rings for the oil drain plug. I might get one of those Fumoto drain plugs one day, but they make me a little nervous. I used to use Castrol GTX Edge, but recently switched over to Shell's Rotella T6 5W-40. It's a heavier weight engine oil, but I live in the south and it's within summer temp weights for our car most of the year. A lot of Subaru drivers use Rotella T6. Even though it's labelled for diesel engines, you won't hurt your car.
Here's a link to the oil filters and crush rings
Also, as another user stated, be sure to remove the filter on that banjo bolt for the oil feed line to the turbo. They get clogged and will starve the turbo of oil, killing it pretty quickly.
Congrats again on the new car. I love mine. She's at 200k miles now, and I'm hoping to get another 50k out of her.
I've been using the Kenu Airframe, an overpriced but effective vent clip in my 2016 WRX.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D901B4W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's been working well with my iPhone 6S (non-plus). I clip it to the center-left vent, just above the radio power/volume dial. It has never fallen off, doesn't sag, etc.
a good resource for dashcam reviews is http://www.dashcamtalk.com. generally the g1w is the best for the money camera (cheap). I have an a118c in the front and a mobius actioncam in the back.
you would also need an add a fuse tap (get the one compatible with your cars fuses)
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=add+a+fuse
and a hardwire kit (again get the one that goes to your camera):
http://www.amazon.com/Dash-Camera-Vehicle-Hard-Wire/dp/B00MH4ZVHO/ref=sr_1_2?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1462289270&sr=8-2&keywords=dash+cam+hardwire+kit&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011
Found this on Amazon in another thread: https://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Fixed-Crossbar-Impreza-E361SFJ000/dp/B008216AVM

I'm in the same boat as you, 2012 Impreza hatch. Last season I just threw skis/snowboards in the back, but I'm looking into making things a bit more comfortable for my passengers this season. Looked on the Thule website, and the crossbars alone are $500+ so this looks pretty good.
I installed the OEM roof rack for my Impreza. Plus, I finally installed the LED light strip that /u/cuterocky recommended. Bonus: the roof rack came with a nice torx driver.
Roof Rack: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B008216AVM

I still need to upgrade my speakers but I think I solved my Bluetooth problem at least for now.
I bought
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009NLTW60/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1395844777&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40
It just goes in my console plugged into the cigarette lighter and aux port. Whenever the cars on it turns on and my phone automatically connects. I don't know if Zunes can do Bluetooth but that's what I did! Works pretty well and is a cheap 2 min install!
I just got a set of rubber coasters that look like Subaru all weather mats a few days ago. They're great for a stocking stuffer.
When I get my Impreza in a month and a half, I plan on giving it a coat of wax. Seems like a good idea. I've heard this wax is good...
Nu Finish Liquid Car Polish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BPSW7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cSPAybN24F9GC
Not sure what else, I'm looking for recommendations too.
Good tires. I like the General Altimax RT43. Regular oil changes. Regular tire rotations. Fresh fluids all around. The simple easy shit we all should be doing really.
You could also hit up your local walmart/auto parts store and buy the 3M headlight resto kit. Will get the haze off the lights and leave them shiny new for a bit. Helps a ton when there is no haze on the lenses.
https://www.amazon.com/3M-39084-Headlight-Restoration-Kit/dp/B006VB8JTQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504839693&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=3m+headlight+restoration+kit&psc=1
You'd be surprised, I really didn't use a wide variety, and what I used didn't cost too much. This was a while ago, and I buy so many random cleaning products I don't even remember what all of it was exactly, but:
Wax;
Claybar.
Really nothing particularly fancy you couldn't pick up at target. That said, I did spend a long time claybarring and waxing. Pretty much went over the entire car twice.
Awesome! I'm thinking about this one as a beginner step. I wanna learn more about led bars and what makes them good. If the cheap light bar fails I dont have a problem with pulling it apart to see what went wrong ant attempting to repair it. Thanks for the input!
I'd recommend giving it a regular spray of 303 Aerospace UV Protectant. Seems to do pretty well at keeping black plastic and trim from breaking down and getting ugly.
I just ignore the light in the winter, but the ATEQ QuickSet looks like the most economical solution. $150 at Amazon
Something like this. Buddy of mine just went to home depot, bought some bolts and washers and used his girlfriend's hair bands to make his. turned out surprisingly well
Those bulbs are shit. See. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/blue/good/good.html
You went to 1380 lumens, which is rather low. You could be at 2100 lumen, and see everything.
H11 -> H9 low beam mod = 55% increase in light output
9011 high beam mod = 48% increase in light output
Your best is to do a little mod, which can be done with a nail clipper (you just cut away some metal from the bulb housing. And use H9 bulbs instead. (http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/186450-headlamp-modification-h11-h9-retrofit.html).
These are the best fucking halogen low beams bulbs you can fit into a Subaru (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Standard-Halogen-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B003YMPN3A).
If you want to do the same mod to your highbeams, you can do so by swapping to an HIR 9011 bulb.(http://dastern.torque.net/Mods/HIRmod.html) (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-9011-Standard-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B00480J5CW)
I used Meguires headlight kit on my previous car and it worked perfectly.
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G3000-Heavy-Headlight-Restoration/dp/B004HCOE72
https://www.amazon.com/Windshield-Suction-Mount-Tuning-AccessPORT/dp/B00IMJ2S1K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479334129&sr=8-1&keywords=accessport
I live in AZ so the stock 3M fell right off in the summer. Go with this suction mount and put it on the bottom left of your windshield. Then route the cable down your steering column. Works like a charm
Kenu Airframe. It attaches to the vent below the nav/radio. I've dealt with a lot of phone mounts, and this one is by far the best.
I mounted mine with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IMJ2S1K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
This way I can just take it on/off my lower left windshield whenever I please. Basically, once you monitor the values you need to out of the gate, you can disconnect the AP and the tune still remains. I had mine mounted for a few weeks, and once I confirmed that I had no knock, DAM stayed at 1, I removed it. Here and there I mount it just to fiddle with some of the more fun options.
These Subaru coasters are perfect for stockings
I priced out a new set on TireRack with TPMS and it was about a grand. But then I have to deal with either purchasing a reset tool like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/ATEQ-QuickSet-TPMS-Reset-Tool/dp/B008SCWXN4
Or have the dealership do a TPMS reset. Pretty much a PITA for something as simple as swapping wheels. I probably would have pulled the trigger already if it wasn't for the TPMS hurdles.
It can also help to buy the filters in bulk on Amazon, or a similar site: http://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Oil-Filters-Washers-Pack/dp/B007NLQO0O/
They're the OEM racks for 08-11 Impreza, 12+ Fits STI and WRX only I believe. I've actually got a set sitting here from my old Impreza if you're interested in buying them. Here they are on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Impreza-Roof-Rack-Carrier/dp/B004HGXMYE
Last time I got a new clutch was 2013, I replaced the flywheel with this EXEDY FF01T Chromoly Racing Flywheel, and the clutch with EXEDY KSB03 OEM Replacement Clutch Kit. Best clutch/flywheel combo I've had, including the original. I'm not really into high performance though, so I'm not sure why I got a "racing" flywheel. I think at the time it wasn't that expensive compared to whatever else was out there. Now it's $309, I think I paid more like $290.
It's buttery smooth though. My original clutch had a terrible grab and judder in low gears, and my second clutch was grabby and juddery in a different way, maybe even more annoying. This one has been a gem since day one.
Subaru wanted to charge me about $65, so I said I would rather just deal with the light, because $65 now and $65 when I swap back to summer tires means $130 a year.
The manufacturers tool cost like $3000 or something ridiculous to do the TPMS reset. This $150 tool claims to work on Subaru models, and comments seem to confirm that. No personal experience with it though, but it looks good.
http://www.amazon.com/ATEQ-QuickSet-TPMS-Reset-Tool/dp/B008SCWXN4/
you need the fixed crossbar set from subaru. it's made by thule and exact same parts as the set bought from thule but like 1/3rd the price at about $175-ish
https://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Fixed-Crossbar-Impreza-E361SFJ000/dp/B008216AVM
The salesman I bought my car from owns a WRX and a STI and had it on his cars. He had a bunch of pinstripe tape, So i just got it from him. Not sure of brand/exact color but something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Trimbrite-T1118-Pinstripe-Tape-Red/dp/B00029XB1Y
I got the interior LEDs from eBay. I'd strongly suggest a trim tool if you don't have one (Amazon or Harbor Freight). I later replaced the cargo area LED with a larger LED array for more brightness; the other LEDs are all great and are similar color range of the approach lights if you have them.
The sway bar cuts back on the wobble you might feel on the back end when you turn. For me it made it feel a bit more sedan-like. I read through this extensive thread and decided to give it a go. It's $100 so not too much of an investment considering the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Pretty easy to install with the right tools. Ramps help but aren't necessary.
For the headlamps I bought these H9 bulbs with these harnesses. Both bulbs will work but the connector is different. I opted for the affordable harness so I could cut those up instead of the factory connectors so the bulbs would fit.
I've not actually used my oil drain valve yet as I'm just shy of 5k miles. Did my first oil change at 3k to get it installed and I'll probably change it again at 6k to test it out and get my intervals back on the 6k multiples.
Again, install was straight forward and I did use a torque wrench to tighten. The nipple is still within the plastic shroud and I have no worry about it hitting anything (if it does I have other problems). No leaks or anything.
The wiring kit and the add a fuse tap. Get whichever tap for your size fuse in your interior fuse box. Run the wires in the headliner and down the a pillar.
I recommend the a118c dash cam.
https://www.amazon.com/Dash-Camera-Vehicle-Hard-Wire/dp/B00MH4ZVHO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474857212&sr=8-1&keywords=dash+cam+wiring+kit

I copied this from a response I got when I was researching this.
I used Meguiar's cleaner wax about a month ago, after washing and clay baring. Today I just used the quick detailer that came with the clay bar kit, after washing of course!
Meguiar's A1214 Cleaner Wax - Paste - 11 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009IQX0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6SmnzbV4JRVER

This is what I put into my '08 and it works perfectly. Plus it lets me to handsfree calling.
That said, I'm on Android, but the description states that it'll work with Apple.
Look into 303 Aerospace to protect the synthetic leather and vinyl dashboard.
Thanks! Here's what I used:

Do you use the above power cord for constant power? I actually have this model in my amazon cart.
If I remember correctly I just bought red pinstripe tape off amazon.

Your stock low-beams are H11 bulbs, which pump out about 1250 lumens, and probably less than that, because stock bulbs are weak. I would spend $15 and swap both low-beams to H9 bulbs, which pump out 2100 lumens. The conversion involves trimming a metal tab on the H9 bulbs to match the size of the tabs on the H11 bulbs. Trimming the metal tab is easy and should only take a few minutes.
Your stock high-beams are 9005s. They can be upgraded to 9011s with about 30 seconds of your time and a nail-clipper. The conversion involves simply clipping off part of a plastic tab.
Dupli-Color Metal Cast
You need to clay bar the paint and then wax/seal it. If you park your car outside, this will need to be done regularly.

Anthracite Grey plasti-dip with gloss coat for the rims, grill and "skid guard" from amazon
For the fog lamps I used Dupli-color Yellow Metal Cast, also from amazon not sure how I feel about the fog lamps though, the paint made it hazy...I'm going to test it out a bit tonight.
OEM oil filters are so cheap there's no reason not to use them, in my opinion. Amazon sells a six pack of them for $27.
Also, the oil could be burning because it's too thin. I have been using Motul 8100 xcess 5w40, which my tuner Yimisport recommended, in my 2012 STI and I've had basically zero consumption over the last two years.
Finally, a big step toward solving oil consumption is using an air-oil-separator. The stock configuration returns oil to the engine via the intake, which ends up getting in your intercooler and ultimately burning in the combustion cycle. An AOS strips the oil from this air and returns it via a drip back into the engine block. It never needs emptying like an oil catch can either. Crawford and Perrin both make them now. Grimspeed makes a cheaper, smaller design but I've read it doesn't work as effectively.
Thule's guide doesn't give me a solution, maybe they discontinued the product?
Yakima looks good but damn they are expensive.
OEMs are cheap and will do what I want. Probably go with these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HGXMYE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2LIUC6TMTLQAD
I can just lash the skis to the roof with bungies or tie-downs.
Used this to give my Bob some TLC. There was only really minor yellowing, but I'm shocked what a difference it makes. Now he looks a little more hip.
