The manga is meh compared to the Light novels. I would read the LN for sure since the manga does not adapt the LN very good.

Volume 1 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-Novel/dp/0316371246/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y

Volume 2 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-Novel/dp/0316376817/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_y

Volume 3 LN http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Fairy-Dance/dp/0316296422/ref=pd_sim_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0XWE33FV35W0REB2C705 (This one is not out yet)

The official LN are very behind in English. Only two are released while the third as you can see comes out next month. In Japan 15 volumes are already out. What I recommend is buy these three to obviously support the franchise. If you want to continue reading which I am sure you will since this series is like crack then you can continue with the fan translated volumes. The fan translations are pretty good and can be found on the right hand side under useful links.

Volumes 1&2 cover Episodes 1-14 of the anime. The second volume containing some of the side stories.
Volumes 3&4 cover Episodes 15-25 of the anime.
Volumes 5&6 cover Episodes 1-14 of SAOII anime.
Volume 8(This volume consist of more side stories). Has a side story which is Episodes 15-17 SAOII anime.
Volume 7 covers Episodes 18-24 SAOII anime(Still airing btw).
Volume 9-15 is not animated yet. Also the books are still ongoing.

Advice from an owner - Figmas, however expensive, are not very durable, and prone to breakage even though they have bendable joints. If you must buy them, try to avoid adjusting their pose often.

Nendoroids, on the other hand, are very durable and much cheaper than figmas. They also make great desk ornaments, and I advise that, if you want figures, get them. They look pretty awesome, and who doesn't like cute stuff? (This show's main duo are supposed to be cute together)

Another gift could be the light novels (Volume 1), the source material of the anime. They're very cheap and go into much more detail than the anime; if your sister likes reading, these are the way to go.

And you should give the anime a try! It must be your sister's favorite anime for a reason. :)

It looks like the top two links aren't working as of right now in the message you just replied too, there's a reason for it but it's kind of difficult to explain. Here's an Amazon link to both. Amiami has something called Pre-owned items where they restock released items through a program in Japan which makes them considerably cheaper to buy on Amiami than on Amazon or any other website. I can explain how you know when Amiami restocks the figures you want if you want to buy a few of the ones I linked. Just lmk.

The manufacturer of this one is actually FREEing, the Amazon ad says "Good Smile" but if you search Asuna FREEing figure this is what comes up, Amazon is not always 100% accurate with titles.

Yes it does follow the same plot points, and yes read it from the beginning. Everything is better told in the novels, and you have missed a few character development parts of the story and also one part of ALO which is a foreshadowing of one ALO arc. I can't stress enough how everything is done better in the novels, especially Lizbeth's episode/arc/chapter and the fishing arc.

The links to the novels are on this sub's sidebar.

and I also recommend pre-ordering Volumes 1 & 2 on amazon to support the series. :)

You can find both swords there and Asuna’s as well :) You may be able to find good quality swords for cheaper on amazon. I know amazon sells both swords for roughly $129 They have good reviews. That company also sells Asuna’s sword :) Here’s a link to that : https://www.amazon.com/Sword-Online-Kirito-Elucidator-Repulsor/dp/B0156YQU26

So it seems like Amazon Japan has the best limited edition package: Link

Comes with all of the limited edition stuff from the official limited edition releases, but comes with also the best vendor-specific bonuses.

u/pkChobo · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

If you mean the Yen On English published ones, there are two out. Here are the Amazon Links:

Book 1 and Book 2

Also I am fairly certain that you should be able to find them in Barnes and Noble.

If you are talking about the fan translated Light Novels, look in the subreddit sidebar: Useful Links>Light Novel Translations. And download them, if they don't work I'm sure someone could provide them on this subreddit.

u/iLogeyy · 5 pointsr/swordartonline

I'm from the UK. I just ordered the first 2 (and currently only available) light novels a couple of days ago.

Currently, the cheapest place you can buy the 1st book is on Wordery.

It's only 2p cheaper than Amazon. So if you'd prefer to buy from Amazon, go ahead. (I purchased both from Amazon).

The 2nd book is currently the cheapest on Book Depository. This is 85p cheaper than buying from Amazon.

Good luck! And enjoy reading!

u/OfArgyll · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Cool, I have the exact same Elucidator in my room right now as OP :) If anyone is wondering I ordered mine from here.

They are great quality, and look really good too. The unfortunate thing is that the steel isn't high enough quality to really be sharpened much. I took mine to a professional who was able to put a slight edge on it - it's not much sharper than a butterknife aside from the tip which is extremely sharp - but I still think it looks a lot better with the edge at least!

u/norraptor · 4 pointsr/swordartonline

really wish i had one.

Edit after a quick google search i found http://www.amazon.com/Dream2reality-Cosplay-online-Kirigaya-Kazuto/dp/B00C7AAOG6

:) now to save up money.

u/10TailBeast · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

Only the first 3 for now. There are some translations on this sub, but I prefer to just wait. I like holding a book and smelling that new book smell.

Book #1

Book #2

Book #3

I'm still a bit new on figuring out all the different novels and manga, but those are the 3 I have right now. The author is also doing a Progressive story with more details on what happened floor by floor in SAO. The first manga edition is coming this month (Jan. 20th). It has more illustrations, but covers less story (I might actually prefer that since I doubt an anime for the Progressive material will be done so the illustrations are nice). I linked Amazon, but Barnes & Noble carries them, too. Or whatever major bookstore is available where you might live.

Edit: Here is the publisher's site

u/El-Psy-Congroo-9 · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Does anyone know the difference between the 3 Blu-ray versions on Amazon.co.jp? I know the first one is the LE with a bunch of extra stuff, but what about the other two? Also, does it seem like these are all the "Theatrical" versions? So would that mean no hentai Asuna in them? Thanks!

I never liked figures til my friend got me one and as you can see it has become a bit of a problem.. I also have a few figures from other shows... They just look so good in front of their accompanying manga/Light novels

Only the first two are in print and in English. I got the first one at Barnes N Noble in store, and the second one on Amazon.

Volume 1

Volume 2

I got These yesterday, from here and here. I've already read through a good 5th of the first one :D

The first manga on the shelf here is the Aincrad arc. It basically covers the first Light Novel, but includes the Yui story. Doesn't have the rest of the short stories from volume 2 of the Light Novels. Here's the link to amazon for the volume. https://www.amazon.com/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-manga/dp/0316371238/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543081114&sr=8-1&keywords=Aincrad+manga

u/BleedingUranium · 1 pointr/swordartonline

The more expensive one you linked isn't the same model.

The wireless version isn't really that expensive if you actually expect good audio, and the wired-only version (which is otherwise identical) is a bit cheaper, and I'd rather wired anyway.

u/Patryk2710 · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

I am not 100% sure on this but i think it is the manga

EDIT: Yep its the manga here's a link to amazon

u/ThatOneLance · 4 pointsr/swordartonline

You can buy them on amazon, however, be warned, they are very expensive on there. 60$ per volume, which is like per arc. I saw that they sell cheaper on the aniplex site. I don't normally buy CDs, but that's all the info I know.

u/ThatOneJeepGuy · 1 pointr/swordartonline

I found one here. The only thing is; it's carbon steel which doesn't reflect off light as nicely, and the sheath is wooden.

I have seen a complete set that was metal, but it is unable to buy right now.

u/HeirOfTheSurvivor · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

Did some hunting:

According to this Amazon page, we can expect Volume 4 in English in late March this year (so around the release of Batman vs Superman, get hype for more SAO).

Though the wiki states that the volume was released in Japanese last December, so I suppose there's still the issue of it taking them 4 months to translate half a dozen A4 pages of text.

But no matter, only 2 more months :)

u/TUSF · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Nah, it's just the first novel. Volume 2 is out in August, and is already up for pre-order. (So is the 3rd one ) I ordered the first book myself, and I'll be reading over it for any differences and stuffs...

Amazon has both for $120

u/ZeHaffen · 4 pointsr/swordartonline

There's a couple things I would like to point out here, both of which can be found in our LN FAQ. One, none of the LNs have eBook formats while the manga do. It's odd that switching from paperback to eBook switches like that, but the eBook link has been incorrectly linked to the LN version for quite some time now. Two, the titles should be a dead giveaway. The eBook version clearly has "(manga)" in the title, while the paperback version does not. As I said already the eBook version is incorrectly linked to the LN paperback, but the title and art change so that should be a bit of a red flag.

While you're correct that it still says "Book 2 of 4 in the Sword Art Online: Progressive Manga Series", the description (which is right below that) is also altered drastically.

The final thing I would like to point out is that there is a cheaper version of the paperback manga. I have absolutely no idea why it's this way, but Amazon doesn't seem to have their version listed despite being in stock. You can find it here. Volume 1 of the manga seems to be in the same boat, so perhaps I'll edit the LN FAQ with direct links to them until Amazon gets it sorted out.

u/Chromium2222 · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Unfortunately I am from the UK, so they won't accept £. However I can order things from Amazon US. What do the first 2 light novels cover? Also, is this #1 of the light novel? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Art-Online-Aincrad-Novel/dp/0316371246/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410033855&sr=8-1&keywords=sword+art+online

Here's the sword Cant cut things its made out of high carbon steel. Might try sharpening it.

The Light Novels are being officially released in English right now, every few months I believe. You can buy the 1st, 2nd, and pre-order the 3rd on Amazon.com

u/DivineArbalest · 3 pointsr/swordartonline

The only physical copy in English is the first. Try Amazon. the second is coming out soon, I believe.

u/nvrwastetree · 1 pointr/swordartonline

The very first box set borderline costs $130.00. That's rediculous. Not even Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or even Bleach English dub box set is that expensive.

This one in Specific

u/Orimos · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

Only one novel has been officially released in English so far. The second one is coming in August.

I think Barnes and Noble should have it in store. Amazon (link goes to the book) is pretty much my go-to website for online shopping unless they don't have what I'm looking for though.

Unofficially though.. I'm not sure where you could find them any more. They were on Baka-Tsuki but it's been abandoned due to the official licensing.

u/Mamue · 1 pointr/swordartonline

I have no idea whether it's shipped from UK or America, it just tells me 11.49€ for Volume 2, for example on Amazon DE

u/Jaynight · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Can you order from amazon.ca?

SAO 2 Progressive Manga

Edit: Hmm actually it seems do be doing the same thing on the .ca website. Wasn't like this before. Wonder whats up.

1080p is High Definition. It's Blu-ray only by default since DVDs are Standard Definition. Toshiba's HD DVD brand went the way of the Betamax. Why are you asking for the impossible?

As for just getting the box sets and movie on DVD, have you tried Google? Because it's not like they're out of print. Right Stuf! sells them. Here's Sword Art Online: Season 1 and Ordinal Scale. SAO II doesn't actually have a box set though and is 4 volumes. Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3. For Volume 4 be prepared to pay out the nose since it's apparently out of print. Was a limited edition thing. Only thing is, unless you have a Blu-ray player and buy the Blu-ray editions, you're not going to get 1080p.

Or you could just watch it via a streaming service like Crunchyroll. Though I think they only have season 1 in dub. I don't care for dubs in general, so I don't usually look for them, tbh, and thus don't know for sure. If you're willing to put up with the ads, you can even watch without getting a subscription via the website.

u/Laurcus · 2 pointsr/swordartonline

Also don't forget SAO Progressive. https://www.amazon.com/Sword-Art-Online-Progressive-light/dp/0316259365

Covers a metric fuck ton of stuff not seen in the anime or the main series of novels. It's literally Kirito and Asuna going floor by floor through Aincrad. In the English translation we just finished Floor 4!

u/derekwilcox · 6 pointsr/swordartonline

Part of a Halloween costume my wife custom made for me a few years ago. Parents were confused, kids thought it was the coolest costume ever. The swords were just crossed on the mantle until they disappeared and came back mounted to this...
