What kind of robot? You can absolutely make what you want work by simple bluetooth serial connection, but you'll have to have your Arduino setup to accept serial input and interpret that input to the desired effect. I'm not saying AutoArduino won't do what you want; I just get the feeling it might not be the best way. Do you have an bluetooth shield already or what is your setup?

Like a said, I have setup arduino programs to use this adapter to recieve and interpret serial commands from Tasker. (I believe you will still need a interstitial app but I know there's one that works seamlessly with tasker). So for instance, if you have a robot with three axis, you could send the serial message "xAxis,yAxis,zAxis" and have the arduino interpret that serial command to run your motors too those axis. It's really quite simple once you get your head around it. Feel free to PM me if you want some personalized help. I'd really love if you sent me your existing sketch for you robot and I can tell you how I would make it flow.

Well, I'm not sure if this will help you, but I'll share my setup. I use the SoundBot SB360 which is like $16.00.

It plugs into auxiliary jack, so you could definitely use the tape deck with a female-female 3.5mm collar.

I only have a cd player (no cassette/auxiliary/rca) so I found a guide where I soldered the wires into the cd audio out and play a "silent cd".

My 12v power (cigarette lighter) is always powered on, so for a while, I would just hit the button on the SB360 (turn it on) and it would connect to my phone and launch my tasks.

I recently looked up the specs on my car and found there was a power wire that only comes on when you start the car, so I wired into that.

When my phone connects to the Bluetooth it launches "car mode".

"Car mode" changes "car_mode" variable to "1", stores current volume in a variable, stores current screen brightness in a variable, turns wifi off, turns volume to max, dismisses dangerous audio levels warning, turns screen brightness to max, launches linkme: Torque, Car DashDroid, CaroO Pro (Dashcam & OBD), Waze, Podcast & Radio Addict. Then it plays the podcast.

Not sure if any of this is relevant, I just wanted to share :)

In today's shiny web world, it can't hurt to learn JavaScript, but it's a dreadful mess, saved only by this fine book.

Python is a great language for learning, and I think Tasker supports it..

Now, I've spent years in software, and I suggest you stick with Tasker and its plugins, because it is very well thought out. You can learn a lot about real world stuff if you focus on being battery efficient and being responsive. Setting task and profile priorities, scheduling waits, running tasks in parallel, is an art.

Premature optimisation is the root of all evil in programming. JS doesn't necessarily make things faster, and believe me I've seen clueless JS programmers consider using C/C+ for speed, when they could have simply used JS properly. Use libraries, not DIY code, which is why AutoTools is so good.

This is how I have my set up as well. Here is the USB-UIRT I bought for Eventghost. It works pretty great.

I use Flexsmart for mine. I really enjoy the sound quality over FM and I found syncing to be very easy. It also has a nice play/skip/back button set up. I don't even have to use my phone.

I just set up my Tasker settings with it, in my car I have to manually turn it on/off because its an always on outlet (will drain my car's battery) but once I do that, it automatically starts up spotify, and starts playing, then boots up GoogleMaps and switches to driving mode.

Once I am a bit more advanced I plan to have it ask if I need directions to my next event, and automatically import my next calendar location and start navigation.

Here is the link to the adapter I have.

A simpler option is to tie things to a bluetooth device that is always in the car, and is only turned on when the car is turned on. There are bluetooth car kits available. Another option (if you don't want a car kit) is to get a bluetooth ELM327 adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Engine-Reader/dp/B0051CAE1C. It plugs into the ODBII port on the car. If you install an app like Torque you can read the information from your car computer as well - helpful if the "check engine" light comes on.

I use these beacons with the Beacon Locator (also available on F-Droid).

I've been running it for about a year and it's been a relatively solid implementation. Once in a while I have to rerun the "Out of Range" task.

Beacon Locator can't be used as a profile. It can execute tasks though. So, there's an "In Range" and "Out of Range" task. Both tasks update their own timestamp variable. The profile is true when the "In Range" timestamp is greater than the "Out of Range" timestamp.

hm, that's complicated

get a better bluetooth audio receiver, mine automatically connects to me when it receives power. (which happens when I turn the key in the ignition to or past ACC as the console-between-seats cig-lighter is tied to the ACCessories line.

which causes phone to start playing when connected (music player feature)

which starts my podcasts

my stereo has auto-volume adjust based on speed integrated

this saves me on the GPS battery eating.

I integrated an always-on Qi Wireless pad in the CD tray on the dash with rubber grippy thingies that prevent the phone from sliding around during my race-car driving. Also, both this, or bluetooth audio connection, set DT2W (double tap to wake) so I don't have to hit the power button to wake the screen.

I can't figure out how to do the lock screen disabling, that gives me serious problems regularly necessitating disabling Tasker, rebooting, and disabling the states/scripts that touch the lockscreen, rebooting, and re-enabling tasker...I suppose I'll get around to it one day but the lockscreen has shorcuts on it so I guess it's a feature.

Also, I have not and will never so much as google for this "Android L" or "Lollipop 5.0" business. My keyboard shivers even so much as typing those letters in sequence...

the instant bluetooth is really the greatest laziness-enabler I've ever come across. I just get into the car, leaving phone in pocket, and music starts playing. all too easy...

Does your car have an auxiliary input (3.5mm jack)? If it does, then you can get something like this adapter to use it for Smart Lock and for calls or to stream music wirelessly.

I have this and it's awesome. It connects immediately every single time

Your best bet is the starter pack that comes with the hub and three bulbs. Usually around
$180-$190. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSN8DN4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_u-Wnub10414EF

One bulb usually ranges between $50 and $60 and I'm not sure of the hub. I'm on mobile and only had time for a quick look. I can get back to you.

I use a very lite home automation controller
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007005364/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?qid=1419693424&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

With an appliance module that has a power strip connected to it. Turning the appliance module on and off using the vera plugins for tasker will turn the Chromecast and TV on by activating the power strip which they are plugged into.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0013V58HU/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1419693510&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Not all TVs work this way. You can test to see if your TV will work by turning the TV on and unplugging it from the wall and plugging it back in. If it turns back on, your TV can do this. If it does not turn back on without you hitting the power button on the TV, you'll have to find another solution.

I've used this button with tasker

Button

And it works well I used home to shortcut to invoke Autovoice

u/CircaSurvivor55 · 1 pointr/tasker

I had a similar problem because I hated that I had to take my phone out to plug in an AUX chord. But i found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Wirecutters-HB01-Hands-Free-Multi-Point-Convenient/dp/B00GJFGE0K/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1427730309&sr=8-16&keywords=bluetooth+to+aux

Next I just have my car profile set to when it connects to this particular bluetooth device, it turns everything on. The awesome thing about this bluetooth is the little circle thing on the end is a mic, so I set all my profiles to trigger with AutoVoice commands, so I never even have to take my phone out of my pocket. Hope this helps!

Not an answer but you know that you can get a USB WiFi dongle for your laptop for $10 right? Something to consider

TP-Link TL-WN725N N150 USB wireless WiFi network Adapter for pc with SoftAP Mode - Nano Size, Compatible with Windows XP/7/8/8.1/10 - Mac OS 10.6~10.11 - Linux Kernal 2.6~3.16 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KduPBbB7295ZK

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KSR0636/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_MpdNAbF8M1NF0

is what I bought - works fine with my Galaxy S6 to trigger Tasker tasks.

Also use the Android tools NFC Tools and Trigger (Trigger itself can call a Tasker event).
