I still haven't perfected the technique. Honestly I was a bit rushed this weekend and didn't give it the time it deserved. I still managed to walk away with a few "keepers" though.

I'm pleased that I found an acceptable source for sheets to make tapestries. Queen size, 100% cotton flat sheet for $13.21 on Amazon (Prime eligible too!). Maybe not the greatest for bedding, but they work fine for tapestries. Being a little thin makes it easier to fold and dye. I only iced one side and was surprised I didn't need to flip and apply more dye/ice like the shirts and bandanas I worked on this weekend. I hadn't tied up anything that large since my dyeing days in the 90s, and I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Thanks! Sounds like it would work well. I use these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072JTZ6KL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BFOTBb01909SF Another redditor suggested them and I haven't looked back since. They are super easy to clean and are reconfigurable to many shapes and sizes. And they have little ridges on the outside that rubber bands or zip ties fit into well.

You can get a [tulip dye kit] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Create-32378-One-Step-Multi-Colour/dp/B00KIN1JKE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=tulip+dye&qid=1557885579&s=gateway&sprefix=rulip+dye&sr=8-2) with 36 colors on Amazon uk, slightly more than a £ a color. You can get refill packets (3 bottle charges) of a single color for £10 each. Maybe tulip dye is for noobs and it won't be as easy to get the rich quality you see many professional dyers here get, but if you just want to have fun and enjoy yourself they will get the job done.

I don't know the difference between rit dye and the fiber dye.
Do you recommend use this for example?

Or the typical Tulip All in one kit it's ok? Thx :)

I looked up my original order from many years ago, and I got this kit: https://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/kits/choose-your-own-colors-little-group-tie-dye-kit.html

With the Neon color set: https://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/fiber-reactive-dye-custom-color-sets.html

These days, though, I prefer these bottles for more control and because I mix less dye in more colors than I did at first: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072FSMJWG

I used to think that tie dying with marbles was a bit boring- you just end up with some circles. Then, I learned how ice dying leads to a lot more color variation overall, so I bought a bunch of marbles to see how well they did together. I couldn't be happier with the effect!

All those marbles took a loooong time to tie and then untie, and I needed a tiny crochet hook to help untie.

Here’s a pretty cheap kit. Nothing super fancy but it will get the job done. I’ve used it without soda ash before and had no issues. I get 10 shirts out of a kit but also have some colors I don’t like left over. Also available at WalMart I believe, but expect to pay a little more

You could get a can or two of the Tulip ColorShot in Silver Shimmer and give each one a light coat over the gray dye.

Dyes: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00WWTWXWA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_UHgoDb23913AC

The t-shirt where the colour ran is 50% cotton 50% polyester (the generic Gildan plain white t-shirts from Amazon). The t-shirt where the colour stayed is 100% cotton.

However, I have done 4 shirts now and only 1 of them the colour ran out. That's why I assume it's due to the wetness of the shirt.

Edit: no, didnt use soda ash.
