I wish I could get that nuanced. I'm sure the tech will be there soon, but right now my setup is also just on/off for each fan. I have them plugged into a smart strip like this, and created commands like the ones below:

"Start workout"

  • Turns on Kickr
  • Turns on left fan

    "More wind"

  • Turns on right fan

    "Less wind"

  • Turns off right fan

    "End workout"

  • Turns off Kickr
  • Turns off left fan
  • Turns off right fan

I have used for one year the Vornado 630, because I thought it would be more versatile and less ugly, but I was a bit underwhelmed and decided to buy a second fan. After much research and ollowing TrainerRoad advice, I've purchase this one; I haven't been able to use it on the trainer yet, but the first impression is that it moves a lot of air, without being as noisy as I feared it would be. I may be able to try it this coming weekend and if you're interested I'm happy to share thoughts, but my first impressions are very positive (to the point that I wished I had bought the Stanley before the Vornado, one year ago).

Hey there!

My name is Bryce and I work for TrainerRoad.

I personally train with the 935 and you can absolutely pair it to your TrainerRoad app, albeit only via ANT+.

To get your watch to re-broadcast HR via ANT+, go:
Settings->Sensors and Accessories->Wrist Heart Rate->Broadcast HR

Now, your iPhone 7 does not have ANT+ built in sadly, so you will need to acquire a Wahoo ANT+ Key and Lightning to 30 pin adapter. These do not come cheap, however, and you may well be better off buying a Bluetooth Compatible Chest Strap, but I will leave that decision up to you. Here are the pieces you will need to get ANT+ up and running on your phone:

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

Another vote for PC. I got the Suunto Move stick and it works great, however, I just noticed that it is now more expensive than the Garmin ANT+ stick. Weird. I mostly like using the PC just because it frees up my phone to screw around while doing recovery spins between intervals.

I was in the same predicament - needed a desk but the Wahoo seemed way overpriced. I ended up picking up this for $50: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OM52E3U/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Very decent build quality for $50, and it tilts which lets a precious little bit of air flow through. The rollers don't lock and the two sides are a little awkward, but there is plenty of room for the iPad and 4 (or more) water bottles.

Edit: correcting autocorrect.

Standing fan with remote (similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001V8Y64Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CGRSBbKHFFK0M)

6 pack of sweat bands to rotate (rinse after every ride) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X93QKQD?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Face towel for top tube & face

Finish line polish for frame (not sure if it actually works) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TQKBMWK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PERSBbF8K11BX

Fizik 3mm bar tape (sweat doesn't seem to penetrate this tape): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AONXPTG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PKRSBb7S8B939

I don't know how anyone can survive a trainer ride without a sweat band (at a minimum).

So now I feel like a jerk because I know they USED to, but I can't find it. Maybe they stopped making it. Whatever.

This should work for you; or something similar. I like it because you can align your sprocket and chainring so there's no rub or noise from lateral play. Will take some finesse to get completely silent.

I literally JUST read this! I can't believe I always thought it was air escaping the inner tube. Thanks!

This is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MLS8IU8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not the fanciest piece of kit... but for indoors it gets the job done
