I guess it would be the Penetrating Catalyst. Down in the corner of the front it will have "Part No. 16 PB" http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-16-PB-Penetrating-Catalyst-oz/dp/B000I2079E. This stuff has worked wonders on my Clipper and it didn't take much. I was told and highly recommend that you should do this outside in a place where is plenty of ventilation. I carefully removed all the screws from the covers and replaced them in the chassis so I wouldn't get mixed up later (I tend to lose things). Following mrtopcons warning I wrapped the platen several times with aluminum foil as a mask. I placed a pair of old jeans on the floor of my garage to soak the oily runoff. I worked near the door. I sprayed and worked each type bar free, being careful to protect the platen. After I freed all the bars I let it sit 'til evening and carefully blew out any excess penetrant with air and then wiped off the rest. I let it air out for a few days on my patio table in the morning and back into the garage at night (also to double check the bars). I never had to respray it after the first day. After about 4 days of airing out I brought it inside, reassembled it and now I love my "new" Smith-Corona! This product is fantastic. I just got a '40 Royal KMM last week whose bars were completely immobilized by years of rust (dog hair and God knows what else). I vacuumed it out http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BSJCLY/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and took it outside to the garage. Within 15 minutes of spraying and patiently working each key (respraying when necessary) I got all the type bars COMPLETELY freed up. I was amazed. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I've had pretty good luck with these and each 1" round dot fits perfectly on the bottom of each rubber foot. I also have a mat, and put four dots on that and it works equally as well (although I had to glue the dots onto the felt mat). Works great, and the weight of the machine is usually enough for most surfaces to keep it in place with no slipping.

The musty smell almost always comes from the foam padding on the inside of the metal shell. The padding is thin and is glued on, and to remove it/de-odorize it you'll have to take the shell off. You can remove it with a any thing thin and flat, such as a paint scraper, razor blade, or something similar, then spray the metal shell parts with a deodorizer. I've used a variety of deodorizers, but this one has worked well for me.

If you don't want to remove it you can try to deodorize the padding itself, though this doesn't always work. Also, if you want to replace the foam padding, you can. A simple hobby foam from a craft store and a hot glue gun is the simplest way, while flashing tape can provide added noise and vibration reducing benefits superior to the original foam.

After the last basecoat, I used a lacquer stick. You rub it on like a crayon, let it set for 5 mins, then gently wipe away the excess with a paper towel.

And when wiping off the excess, wipe across the line marks, horizontally. Like the length on the piece. If you follow the direction of the marks, you'll wipe out all the lacquer.

Let it sit for a bit then hit the spots where it didn't fill in or got wiped out. Repeat as needed.

Wait a couple days then clear coat.

I think I've solved what's making the space bar be a dick. Album of my powers of deduction. If you would be so kind, could you please take a look and let me know if this makes any sense?

Basically, I think the left one is straight while the right one is bent. That would mean that straight-up pulling the silver things left would result in the left one going from straight to bent while the right one goes from bent to less bent.

Maybe I should grab the right one and pull out slightly? Is there a better way to do this? So far I've just grabbed it with my hands.

Also, should I clean this with Hoppe's Gun Cleaner and a tooth brush and then oil it with Hoppe's Gun Oil?

I'm sorry to burden you with my problem yet again. I just not sure who else to ask... I hope the gold at least helps to make up for it, as I really appreciate your time.

I've typically used 3in1 blue (not the typical Red and white bottle) where light weight is required, or for motor lubrication. For metal on metal contact, such as rails where something more grease like is needed, I use Deoxit L260np.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AHCIWHO

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00065VGUC

The L260np is the type of stuff they use for things like CD tray rack and pinion rails, etc.

DO NOT use 3in1 Red. That is a wholly different beast than the Blue I've linked.

That's the drawstring. It's what pulls the carriage left as you type. So as-is the machine will just keep typing letters in the same place. Save this string and use it to measure a new piece and re-use the clasps. I use nylon blind cord which doesn't stretch and has a strong pull capability

If you buy it in boxes of 500 from amazon it really isn't that bad.

I've made my own from some of this stuff: Locktite Fun-Tak Mounting Putty as I remember that it was a recommended use of another brand my mom used to buy years ago.

In the Amazon related products it shows a size 10, 100% cotton envelope by them, ivory colored. I think I might pick that up as the size is much more manageable

Southworth Exceptional Resume Envelopes, 100% Cotton, Size 10, Ivory, 50 Count (R14I-10L) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001I8ZXYQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NVY5CbENTFGG7

Do you mean that the frame is actually cracked? I just managed to glue back a similar frame with J-B Weld 8276 KwikWeld Quick Setting Steel Reinforced Epoxy if that helps. You can see the machine here while the product is setting.

I haven't tried to pull hard on it after glueing it, but so far it seems to hold.

Many modern typewriters have at least a small display with the last words typed. E.g. this Brother, which also has "line-by-line"-printing, what probably is this feature you want.

I don't think you're going to find one with a hook. However, you can get some grommet pliers (get the right size!) to go with grommets with hooks that, maybe, you can find somewhere (2 minutes of looking and I haven't found any, and now I surrender the search to you).....

You could buy a new one.

http://www.amazon.com/Scrittore-Portable-Manual-Typewriter-Royal/dp/B0067PTH8I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395735495&sr=8-1&keywords=Royal+Scrittore

Problem is that they're crap, china made stuff now.

If you look at some of the buying guides (I believe there's one in the sidebar to the right) you can get a good one from years past for next to nothing if you know where to look. I bought my first one for $40, a Remington Rand De Luxe model 5.
