Well, first I'll say that the one I have is the first version, as opposed to the second lighter and probably sharper version.
I do like it a lot but I use it at the full 400 focal length 99% of the time and so I wonder if I would have been better off just buying a 400 prime. I also wish I had waited a little bit to get the lighter version. All that said, I've gotten a good amount of great shots with it and I do wildlife photography pretty much exclusively, though I'm no pro by any stretch.
That would give you an advantage! 馃槂
I would recommend either the 70-300mm or 55-200mm. There's a price difference of course, but both great choices. Naturally a benefit of having an extra 100mm. Though make sure to get the lens with IS because it will make a difference. They do sell a 70-300mm lens without IS but I'd avoid.

What do you think of this? It looks like an awesome intro to DSLR with a bunch of lenses to mess with and learn from, good zoom and other stuff
For anyone who visits this sub and loves this image, the artist who took it is Nick Brandt from his On This Earth series.
He is my favorite all time photographer.
Hundreds of years from now people will still be looking at his classic images.
Hey thanks again for the information. I think I'm going to go with your recommendation of the 18-300mm zoom - versatility is exactly what i want for my first lens. And at this point i have no idea what else to get.
I'm having a hard time finding that lens with the keyword "zoom" but is this what you're talking about?
