I have a 925, and these work pretty well. The bass is good (compared to the crappy ones I had previously) and they're pretty comfortable. The button will pause / play, answer calls, and people seem to think mic quality is good. Check this out on AMZN:

I wanted to get the Nillkin but it wasn't available on Amazon with prime shipping so I tried the Omoton tempered glass protector on there instead. I've had it on for a week so far and no bubbles at all. The fit is nice. I like that the whole corner isn't cut out like on the Nillkin so there's more coverage. My only criticism of the Omoton is that it attracts fingerprints and can look cloudy. Costs around $8 for a 2 pack and I'm happy with it.

Yes, I actually have good hearing and as I said good headphones.

So I can tell the difference between a low end .mp3 file compared to my FLAC/WMA rips.

edit, FYI, I can't carry my desktop every where with me. As I do in fact leave my home on a daily basis. When I'm out in a car trip or taking one of my several mile long bike rides I use a pair of Koss KSC75 Headphones which are far better that most ear buds. My normal use cans are a pair of Monoprice Noise Canceling headphones.

Eventually I'll get a pair of Grados headphones along side either a Fiio X3 or Pono player, but not until my wallet says its ok to. Which is why I use my phone to play music until then.

I recommend the Skullcandy Ink'd 2.0 ear buds. Amazing sound quality, durable, and the price is easy on the wallet. http://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-S2IKDY-003-Earbud-Headphones-Black/dp/B007136EDG

Exactly what I was thinking! I saw this and it looks like it may fit the bill. One of the reviews mentions using it with a Dell Venue 8 tablet to stream Xbox games which is brilliant.

I would say it wouldn't matter, since all current Lumias were already confirmed to get Win10. However, since you're looking at the 830 you don't seem to be particularly interested in a flagship (unless you don't like the size of the 1520 and also don't like Verizon/their failure to update so you don't want the 930). I would assume the only MAJOR releases as far as phones go for next year would be successors to the 1520, 1020, and the 930(maybe), which would all be flagships. Also, new phones next year will cost a bunch, probably around 200 dollars on contract, a price that will drop over time (if you get a 2 year contract on the 830 then by the time the contract is up you can probably get the flagships for 50 dollars on contract). I bought the 1520 and went through this same thought process (I bought my 1520 2 weeks ago), so I can share you my reasoning when it comes to "waiting for Win10"

When buying a Windows Phone, consider this:

  • Windows Phones will ALWAYS work on really low end hardware, including Win10 for Phones, as all Lumias will get the update (including the really low end ones like the 530 and 535)

  • Win10 for Phone is GUARENTEED for all Lumias, MS tweet for proof. Here is a Screencap of it if you can't look at Twitter right now (stop browsing reddit and get back to work :P)

  • If your current device isn't cutting it, updating will be entirely worth if for the year you use it until a new flagship comes out

  • Flagships (even Windows Flagships) will cost a lot of money on release, so waiting will bring down the price.

  • SensorCore - A feature that Microsoft does a poor job at marketing, but it will enable you to use the "Hey Cortana" feature of Lumia Denim, checking what phones have SensorCore can help you in the decision (625 doesn't have it, 830 has it), so if that's important to you, then you can get that feature for the 830 when Denim is rolled out, but you can't do that on the 625.

  • Glance Screen - Another Lumia feature only on some phones, requires a specific hardware part as far as I understand it, so if your phone has it is entirely the deciding factor of if you can get it. (830 has it, I believe the 625 does not.)

  • Hardware - Overall, you need to consider the hardware jump. While WP8.1 runs well on all devices, "Resuming..." is a big problem for 512 MB RAM devices, the 830 has 1 GB, so you can expect a drop in that. Also, the 830 has a 4 core processor, the 625 has a dual core. 830's battery is also removable, so if that appeals to you, then there.

  • Flagship VS Mid-tier VS Low-end - Windows Phone 8.1 runs well on all of them, we can expect Win10 for Phones to work the same way.

Also, the whole "what if I wait a year" aspect of this will always get you in trouble. A new phone will come out the next year all the time (maybe not a successor to your device, but one that might appeal to you more). Stick with the "my situation now" thought process. If you try to live in the future with phone's you'll always be waiting.

TL;DR: I wouldn't expect a major non-flagship phone next year, the prices of the phones released will be high, and they will be released late into the year most likely, etc. If you don't like the 625 / want more power, go for the 830, but if you don't care about additional features and speed and want a flagship that isn't the 1520 or 930 and you're fine with your 625, then stick it out. Maybe consider buying the 830 outright instead of on contract if you really want the 830 and a flagship from next year, of course not a lot of people can just drop a couple hundred dollars on a phone like that (it is 400 dollars on Amazon (300 dollars off) right now if that interests you.)

I have one from this company, but I advise you to go with http://www.armorsuit.com/cell-phones/microsoft/microsoft-lumia-950-xl-screen-protector.html because of the success rate of applying the glass ones (1/4 chance with laser precision on my part)

The Armorsuit ones use a wet application process, which means they can be adjusted for awhile. They're also self-healing, bubble-less, and usually don't have as much dust (cross contamination is reduced, which was a probem with the dry application glass ones)

Yeah, I've been thinking of replacing it with a candy shell. I've been eyeballing this one.

I think the black with my white device would look pretty good.

This is 20 bucks. A 16 GB one, which is probably the size most phones have inside is like 10 bucks.

If all you want is to save money you could sell the phone on ebay well above that.

I have these right now:

I really like its subdued orange color.
Also, pretty decent sounding for its price.

I own a 950 as well :) and I purchased this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015R4FU8U?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I don't know what a 925 felt like, but I was annoyed at the slight lip on the edge of the 950, and applying this definitely helps. It still digs in my ear during a phone call, but I would say it was still worth putting on the tempered glass. It definitely got rid of most of the lip.

u/talon38c · 1 pointr/windowsphone

Bought one on Amazon and if gave new life to my 950.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIMZM8/

The date on the one I received appears that it was recently produced. I'm totally happy with it.

u/queentut16 · 1 pointr/windowsphone

I got this one for my 950. Shipped fast, same as my original battery, and seems to work just fine. Though I also think CU tanked battery life. That's when my original one really went downhill.

I use this one and it is great (and made for the xbox one controller), but I had to drill out part of it when I got my S controller because the plastic part pushes in the sync button on the new design: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Smart-Clip-Xbox-One/dp/B00FLLFM0Q

u/Stevied1991 · 2 pointsr/windowsphone

I've been using this one. Has fast charging and everything.

Edit: You'll also need this if you want to plug it into a wall.

The glass is the digitizer. This one seems legit.

You can buy an unlocked international version without a warranty on Amazon

This is how I bought my 1020, so it's not like you can't get them at all here.

u/Theloneranger7 · 2 pointsr/windowsphone

The 4s has been heavily discounted lately. $285 unlocked from Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Alcatel-Windows-Unlocked-Smartphone-Goggles/dp/B01N5WNPKY

That's probably the closest you'll find with specs like the X3.

The lenovo zuk Z2 sell for less than $200 at times. That probably one of the cheaper s820 powered phones.

X3 will probably get reduced soon, but no where near to $100 point.

Not sure honestly. I'm not going to take the risk without a screen protector after a couple scratches on my last phone. OnePlus 1 with a gorilla glass 3 screen. So for my 950 I picked up a tempered glass screen protector that Works really well.

Link to the 950xl version of the one I got-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015R4FU8U/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1&th=0

I messed up putting the first one on and had to reorder a second one so he carful. Since this screen protector has a cut out for the infrared light it's a little harder to get it on just right than normal phones
