IR Blasters are directional Infrared Radiation (IR), a spectrum of light that's mostly invisible to human eyes but the Wyzecams can use to record its surrounding in the dark. In other words, video recordings in the dark, look like clear, bright, daytime, black and white scenes.
These light sources use electricity but it also has sensors that turn "on" the light when dark, and on average illuminates about 12 hours everyday depending on its installed geographic location. The longer its light is on the more money it takes operator - but it makes a huge difference for video recording when installed correctly.
With the Wyzecam and sensors triggering the Wyze smart outlets that now controls my IR blasters, it only turns on as needed, which reduces the energy cost, by my guesstimate of 99%, which translates ruffly into $18.92 savings per year for my current energy rates of 27¢ per kWh on Oahu.
I have been using this light fixture with no failures or operational issues.
My biggest lesson with IR blasters was that the light source cannot be too strong or the details get "washed-out" like a person's face. How the IR blaster is aimed takes trial and error to get it right for each installation but the results are worthwhile.
There's a better way: https://camelcamelcamel.com/Wyze-Indoor-Wireless-Detection-Assistant/product/B076H3SRXG?context=search
OP, this is probably the cheapest they will sell them for. If it's your first time I recommend jumping on the deal if you're planning to spend more than $25 for the free shipping. But if you're unsure then I'm sure it's possible we will see a $20 deal on Amazon again.
Also, if you live near a Micro Centre you can pick up their own branded SD cards super cheap. For example, a 128gb card costs $12.99. I use their 64gb card and have several months worth of clips stored on it.
For your sdcard question, I am using the 64GB Sandisk listed here for $20 each. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYVKNX/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've been told the 128GB works too but I have not needed that much storage since I am not using continuous recording, just event only.
Since I am not doing the continuous recording and all cameras will have a different amount of storage based off of the activity near them, I can't answer your time question. I will say that there are multiple threads/posts around here detailing the timespan associated with 32 vs 64 and some have 128.
Hope that helps, these cams are good for the price and feature set.
First, describe your planned mounting location as it pertains to weather exposure.
Covered? Not covered? Temps?
There are "weatherproof" enclosures/housings out there but none of them are truly weatherproof since they require holes for cables, don't have sealant rings, etc.
I bought these for my setup and it seems to work fine so far. Full disclosure it has not yet rained and I installed them 2 days ago, and they are under an overhand alongside some floodlights. But the reviews on Amazon indicate they work well.
If your setup involves being quite a ways back from the nearest overhang, you may not even need an enclosure.
It does a pretty good job. Lights up my whole living room. If its not enough however you can help the cam by getting more IR LED lights like this one.
I'm having the same issues with my recently purchased pans. 3 cameras in various rooms throughout my house, the IR alone barely penetrates a few feet into the dark. In my kid's rooms they leave nightlights on, so it's not an issue. In our playroom though, I ended up putting my old FosCam on a shelf, and plugging it in just as a supplementary IR illuminator. It has far more IR lights and it lights up a large playroom like a christmas tree. I'm loving almost everything about the Wyze cams, but a little disappointed in the apparent weakness of the IR lights. I'd definitely suggest checking Amazon, they have some cheap IR illuminators that could help.
This one has decent reviews and is mentioned to work great with Wyze cams. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075ZYG89D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aG80CbEE00161
not so much. Been using one of these Wyze Cam Pan Protective Case. I do have it outside but under a roof, so it isn't directly out where water can hit the top of it. There's quite a bit of rain around me and I think this thing has been doing well. Do note (if you care to wait) that according to the Wyze CEO (in a recent email) that they are planning on an outdoor model soon.
This is pretty much what I did:
I'm using a 32gb class 10 micro sd (can't remember the brand) and so far everything has held up great in a Canadian winter. We've had all kinds of different weather from rain to ice to snow (and lots of it)! Temps ranging from 15 celsius to -25 celsius.
Do you have a protective case similar to the one in the link below on it? I had the white one and it looked almost exactly like this at night. If not, possibly just a very near by source of reflection? This looks like IR back scatter and based on the case I used, they are pretty sensitive to it. I first painted the case flat black, which resolved the IR issue for me short term. I eventually replaced the case with black ones that do not have the flap on the sides, as that seems to be where the reflections was mostly coming from. If you do not have a case on it, look for anything that is close to either side of the camera that might be reflecting the IR light. If not, I suspect one of the IR LEDs is misaligned. Maybe a defective unit?
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GCX831T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Edit: to fix spelling and to say that I do NOT recommend the linked case, especially not the white one if you plan to use IR for night recording. Spray paint all flaked off in a couple of days.
I've been using a couple of these around the house for over a year. I'm happy with it and service was great when I had an issue ( my fault ) with one.
https://www.amazon.com/Tendelux-Illuminator-AI4-Infrared-Security/dp/B075ZYG89D/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3M3V81HYZIW5O&keywords=ir+illuminator&qid=1562946265&s=gateway&sprefix=ir+ilum%2Caps%2C231&sr=8-3
It's cheaper at Amazon, $42.
Wyze Cam V2 1080P Indoor Smart Home Camera with Wyze Sense Starter Kit
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R3H3N97/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_uoYQDbDX7E5HB
I hope this isn't the announcement. I saw it in Home Depot weeks ago.
We're should be available on Amazon again now, /u/OSRgamerkid. We've included the link below but if you have any trouble viewing it or any more questions, please let us know. :)
Amazon Link:https://www.amazon.com/Wyze-Indoor-Wireless-Detection-Assistant/dp/B076H3SRXG/
I added a couple IR illuminators to handle the after dark lighting for my cameras and actually turned off the IR from the Wyze cams themselves. They aren't any good for outdoor illumination. Not knocking them for that, as I knew that when I purchased. But a couple ir lights like these Tendelux 80ft IR Illuminator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075ZYG89D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8QvYDb1AF74CG. Do a great job of lighting the areas my cameras cover. There are many cheap options, just recommending one Inknow that works. You don't have to mount it next to your camera, if that's inconvenient, just where you want the night vision to be lit up.
Just as an FYI I was able to order one of the V1 models from amazon canada, last month. it was ~$37 with taxes and shipping from this link
It's not active right now but hopefully they start selling again once V2 is out.
Lots of cheap & easy options like u/Freedom95 referenced: https://www.amazon.com/slp/light-socket-to-plug-adapter/gmtayufhb75x6de
More expensive all-in-one option if you don't have room for your USB charger in the light fixture: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EPC102A
Using these in all 4 of my cams. Great quality for the $. Despite what others have said - do not opt for cheapest option. Flash memory (SD cards, SSD, etc...) have a finite number of read/writes. If your cameras are configured for “Continuous Recording” you’ll burn out the cheapest cards in a month+.
Samsung 128GB 100MB/s (U3) MicroSDXC Evo Select Memory Card with Adapter (MB-ME128GA/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_uSuBDb98PG207
EDIT: typo
I’m in the UK, used Amazon.com and paid $37 or £30. Works perfectly.

This one is working really well for me.
UCTRONICS IEEE 802.3af Micro USB Active PoE Splitter Power Over Ethernet 48V to 5V 2.4A for Tablets, Dropcam or Raspberry Pi (48V to 5V 2.4A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MDLUSE7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_zu0UAb40HEMQG
I use a 64gb card and all I had to do was go into the settings under 'Advanced Settings > Local Storage' and hit the 'Fortmat' button. It now recognizes 59.4gb as memory available and records everything normally.

btw, mines a Sandisk Ultra 64GB Micro SDXC UHS-I Card if y'all are curious.
I have tested with 10 foot and 6 foot extender with success. I purchased these back in 2013. Nothing special about them though, at the time of purchase they were half the price they are listed at now. I also purchased a 25 foot cable that I use to run outside.
6 Foot Extender https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00182CIB8
10 Foot Extender https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YQQ9HI
25 Foot Cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0763358FV
GE 54276 Polarized Handy Outlet Plug https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DN6QX2?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
This is what I'm using. Works flawlessly.
If you want to keep the light as well, you can use this instead:
Leviton 1403 Two Outlet Socket Adapter, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F71O70/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mHV.AbN3SJYV7
Mine are pretty similar, 32Gb SanDisk's, A1 Class 10's
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JWXGNT
I use this outside at the far end of my garage with a smart bulb plugged into it so I dont have to flick the switch for light https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EPC102A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Sure. This is the one I use, from Amazon:
SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B073JYC4XM?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I have these
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G72SQXB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_urEBDbHVD873C
Taped up the seam and a little silicone to further seal the lense area and they've been good to go
Then for $4.50 US, get something like this or this:
You'll have to use your own USB charger.

What is this splitter that you talk about. So I plug in the ethernet cable into the PoE switch. Then what do I need at the other end? So the power goes from the switch, though the cable into the camera.
Like this: https://www.amazon.com/UCTRONICS-802-3af-Splitter-Ethernet-Raspberry/dp/B01MDLUSE7/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525311114&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=ethernet+poe+splitter+usb+micro&psc=1
Ask on their subreddit r/openipc. this subreddit is for wyze cameras.
>Did I read it wrong, and I just made a donation? I'm fine with that and supporting good software, I just thought I was getting an SD card to simply install into the camera.
except you arent supporting the software, https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks is the creator of the v2 software, openip just forked the code and sells the sdcards. if you wanted to support the actual devs of the software then you should donate to the people who do the actual coding of it.
its also crazy you are willing to pay $16 for a 8GB sdcard when you can buy a 64 GB for $20 https://smile.amazon.com/Sandisk-Ultra-Micro-UHS-I-Adapter/dp/B073JYVKNX.
https://imgur.com/a/JSCIjpe
thats the instructions on how to setup the adcard
>eliminating the need to download and install/configure onto an SD card myself.
> But why?
If you want to put the camera in a place where you don't have a power outlet, but do already have ethernet. Or even if you don't already have it, ethernet is much easier to hide or run through walls than an extension cord.
I already have ethernet run to my camera locations outside my house, so if I didn't already have a PoE NVR camera system, I would be using that PoE to place Wyze cams in those spots. If this thing ever breaks, they're all getting replaced by Wyze cams.
And as for adapters, this is the sort of thing you would use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079D5452Z/
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Wyze-Indoor-Wireless-Camera-Vision/dp/B076H3SRXG (25.99 shipped Prime).
Wyze: https://www.wyze.com/ ($25.00 shipped via slower boat).
Yes, Wyze is announcing something tomorrow (note countdown on site above< so HD is likely blowing out the old ones.
The above prices have been in place since forever. SDCards are cheap everywhere.
Not saying this is a bad price, just not exciting.
Like would this one work? It talks about different angles and wave lengths.

I do wish they would put the sensor kit up on amazon... they only have the V2+sensor kit combo as far as I can tell.

Outdoor cam is in testing phase. Wyze says it's still on track for release before the end of the year. Be aware that the outdoor cam will certainly cost more. Wyze employees have said it will have battery/usb power options, PIR motion detection and have a wireless indoor hub. For direct information anyone can search for wyze employee posts on their outdoor cam roadmap thread.
You might want to just get a outdoor case for your cam. I have this one out in direct sun, rain, snow, no problems. Most protective case I've found after searching all over. If you can place your cam right under an overhang, I've seen many people say they do perfectly fine with no case.
No data, and no PoE support from Wyze.
But you can use these to do your own PoE to them.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MDLUSE7
I have used that one successfully in a location far too distant to use USB cables for power.
I have THESE in 6 cameras and haven't had any issues.
EDIT: Just noticed it's the same card posted up there =P
I have two pan and scan cameras outside.
I am using 128gb samsung sdcard formatted through the wyze app. Its been a month now and working fine so far. I am using motion recording. Time will tell how this non endurance card holds up for motion. Tbh I probably should of got a 64gb high endurance samsung card for the same price. I think the 128gb is overkill for motion.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWZWYVP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sorry for the late reply. This is the exact one I bought in November:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0763358FV?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
It is still working well today!
So in terms of an international distributor, they just allow Amazon to handle it?
Unfortunately, Amazon AU lets just say is fucked https://www.amazon.com.au/Wyze-Indoor-Wireless-Camera-Vision/dp/B076H3SRXG
Amazon US does ship to Australia, works out about $50 a unit though.
Will definitely look forward when you will be able to handle international orders or at least match your price on Amazon.
For just the camera, link here. For the Sense kit which comes with a camera, link here. Note you can select whatever package you want at either link.
Also, my Wyze cam came direct from Canada but the Wyze Sense kit came direct from Illinois (According to the tracking number) so it took an extra couple days.
It’s probably this one.

They do say ...

Not sure how you missed that.

These are about $8, I have them installed on my cameras and have not had a issue.

I run CAT5 and use 5v POE adapters. Then you can go 300 feet.

I popped in this card right out of the package. I haven't had a chance to try another card or try formatting it or anything yet.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYVKNX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I would not suggest doing what you are doing, because voltage drops with the length (resistance) of the cable. This will result in the camera getting less than 5V, and it may try to compensate by drawing more amps, which is obviously not good.
Here is a 2-pack at $8 per converter on Amazon.com. These down-convert IEEE802.3AF POE at 48V to Micro USB at 5V 2.4A.
Just had my Sandisk card fail after about two years use. Need to call for warranty support. Supposed to have 10 year warranty.

Card I've been using is this one made by Samsung. No issues, and formated using the cam, and the format option in the app.
I have the 64gb version of this in 4 cams since the v2 came out and have had no issues: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XX29S9Q/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_Zdl2CbTGC4WVM
I have these in all 4 of my WyzeCams. No issues at all and cheap at $12.

I have a Pan with a 64GB card on the latest firmware, no issues recording or viewing playback.
This is the model of SD card that I have
I have two wyze cams outside. They're both in outdoor housings with desiccant packs in them. They're under eves, which does help keep them from getting direct rain. This is the housing I have them in. They've worked flawlessly so far.
As for SD cards, I have a 64gb micro SD in each camera. Continuous recording has come in handy in the past few days as one of my cameras caught a car accident and officers were able to determine who was likely at fault.
I just ordered this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JYVKNX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and ill be giving it a shot, Ill post an update on how it goes. Is the maxdrive something wyze is working on? I have to do some research on that.
I've just placed an order for the Spot on Amazon.com (us site) and its shipping today. For some weird reason despite the seller for the Pan being Wyze/Amazon it states it won't ship to the UK! I even tried to buy from alternative sources on Amazon instead of direct but sadly same result, just won't ship to the UK (maybe weight?).

I'll update here when the Spot arrives in a week.

no worries. I ordered the 2-pack. Plus, couple of the Pan versions for $20 each.

Edit: Let's see if the $20 pan version ships. Lot of people over on slickdeals are claiming its a scam.
I killed two 16gb SD cards in two different Wyzecams. Killed dead, won’t format, graveyard dead. Tried two 64gb cards and no problem.
I feel like they don’t work with every SD card.
These are the 16gb cards
