I guess it is possible this could be explained by that IR blaster mumbo jumbo that someone else mentioned, but I think that the far more likely explanation is that your Xbox is cursed. This video gives excellent advice about how to remove a curse. In my experience, the candle method is about 75% effective. If it doesn't work, you could submerge your Xbox in holy water for at least 1 hour. This method is 100% effective but there is a small chance the powerful spiritual energies involved could cause permanent damage to your Xbox. Additionally, holy water can be quite costly, and you will probably need at least a gallon of it to fully submerge the Xbox.

As everyone else said, new consoles are usually the way to go unless you know someone personally who’s willing to give you a great deal. Stores will overcharge for the used consoles and you never know what condition they will be in. Buying from separate sellers even more so. People like to sell their consoles for the same price as it costs for a new one and it’s always baffles me.

New XBOX Ones are pretty cheap now anyways. While they were cheaper during Black Friday, you can still get the S model here with all 5 Halo games for just $257 (with Prime shipping!): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GW3GY3K/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1520810276&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xbox+one

I’m kind of procrastinating right now so if I run into any other good deals I’ll let you know.

I've been using this one: http://www.amazon.com/Avertv-Definition-Analog-Capture-MTVHDDVRR/dp/B002SQE1O0

I'm not an av expert but it's been good enough for my needs, and the software that it comes with is decent.

I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KNNSKV0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and used the Optical audio output on the XB1 into the adapter and then a 3.5mm cable to go from adapter to the AUX in on my PC speakers and it works perfect. I can even hear the audio from the Xbox at the same time as audio from my PC so no need for changing inputs on my speakers or anything.

For Windows support you'll want the wireless variant with Windows in the name, as the non-"Windows" variant doesn't include the dongle. The dongle works plug-and-play with Windows 7 (IIRC, or 8.x+). The dongle can also be bought separately. You might also want the Play-and-charge kit.

Here ya go. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E61G4O/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the specific one and it works. Its not a converter but a whole replacement and will give you HD if the game supports it.

Adapters do exist for this purpose, but YMMV. Try this one I found:https://www.amazon.com/Mizar-Replacement-Xbox-Controller-Adapter-Microsoft/dp/B000RT2868 Original Xbox emulation is almost impossible though, Cxbx only runs a few games at medium speed

I started using rechargeable AA's after I saw a video where someone cracked open the play & charge kit and -- lo and behold, all it contained was two AA rechargeables.

Bought a nice charging station (with a "refresh" mode to discharge them completely then recharge and reset the battery's memory - which is why most of my play & charge kits were dying within a single year) and 4 AA's (2 for charging, 2 for being in the controller) and haven't ever had a problem.

http://www.amazon.com/La-Crosse-Technology-Battery-Charger/dp/B000RSOV50/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1394465238&sr=8-4

IME, play & charge kits dying (not holding a charge, quickly light changes to green even though it's not fully charged, etc) is because you don't allow the battery to fully die before plugging it back into the cable, causing the battery to constantly "top up" all the time, and ruining the rechargeable AA's inside (they lose their "memory").

You will need a optical to analog converter

Something like this should do it

PROZOR DAC Digital SPDIF Toslink to Analog Stereo Audio R/L Converter Adapter with Optical Cable- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KNNSKV0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9lZPBb2BTQ1KN

Welp, I have the exact same setup. I have Turtle Beach X12's, and for those, or just any speaker, you're going to need [this] (http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/cables-parts/ear-force-xaa/349). That's just for sound. My headset comes with the red and white plug to a standard audio jack, so if you just have a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, you're going to need something to convert it with. Last, for picture, you're going to need this. It's quite a pain for all of this simply because you don't have an HDMI plug on your monitor, but it's worth it in the long run, unless you can return your monitor now and buy one with an HDMI plug in it.

It's the spot where your charger connects, here is a new charging cable since you may not have one.

The Xbox can't change the channels without the Kinect unless you use an IR extension cable.
Then you can't use voice to change the channels but should be able to use the controller.

They did, also my high school classmate Ben Kweller did one.

Edit: Oops, here is the downloadable version, the first link was the CD.

Here's a typical inexpensive adapter that the previous poster mentions: XLR Female To 1/4" Male Line Matching Transformer

But you'd still probably need to custom wire a 1/4-female to 35mm connector to get it to work.
