There's not another omnibus, but there are several other ways to continue reading.

Marvel Masterworks prints about a dozen comics in each book, in full color. [Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men - Volume 7] (http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Masterworks-Uncanny-X-Men-7/dp/0785135138/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408764821&sr=8-1&keywords=marvel+masterworks+uncanny+x-men+7) is where you'd need to start.

Essential X-Men prints a ton of comics in black & white. You'd need to start with [Essential X-Men Vol 3] (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-X-Men-Vol-Marvel-Essentials/dp/0785106618/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408764892&sr=8-2&keywords=essential+x-men+3).

You can also collect the TPBs. [From the Ashes] (http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Ashes-Chris-Claremont/dp/0871356155/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=from+the+ashes+x-men) (168-176) is a classic run, one of Joss Whedon's favorites.

Lifedeath and Ghosts are two other TPBs around the same time period.

Here are my favorite story arcs, in chronological order, after where you're at:

  1. God Loves, Man Kills (graphic novel) -- possibly the best place for a newcomer to start

  2. Vignettes 1 & 2 -- back-up stories from Classic X-Men, short stories that delve more into each character

  3. The Brood Saga (Uncanny 154-158, 161-167) -- a mix of Alien & The Matrix, includes the first meeting of Magneto & Professor X (#161) and the first meeting of the X-men & Rogue

  4. Wolverine (Claremont/Miller limited series 1-4) -- the first Wolverine comics, must-read; comes right before From the Ashes

  5. From the Ashes (Uncanny 168-176) -- one of Joss Whedon's favorite runs; Wolverine's wedding; Rogue joins the X-Men; Storm gets a mohawk

  6. Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown (limited series 1-4) -- highly recommended, great artwork

  7. Inferno (Uncanny 239-243, ties in with X-Factor etc) -- typical sprawling X-over, the X-Men issues are better than the X-Factor & New Mutants etc.

  8. Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run 1-24 (the Warren Ellis run after this is also good). The Whedon run also has an amazing motion comic partially available on Netflix.

    Other notes...........

  • Uncanny 229-239 -- I think this run is worth checking out. It includes 3 story arcs leading into Inferno: The Reavers (and the X-Men's move to Australia), the return of the Brood, and Genosha. This would be a good time to check out the Wolverine unlimited series.

  • There's some good stuff after this, esp Psylocke becoming a ninja (256-258) and Wolverine & Cap America in #268, but it's in a bit of a decline (although Jim Lee's art is incredible).

  • Grant Morrison's New X-Men run gets recommended a lot, but personally I think it's overrated. The art undergoes jarring shifts as artists change, some of the art is truly bad, and it's a damn shame how Morrison assassinated Magneto's character. And there's basically just 4 X-Men in it, 3 of them being members of the original Stan Lee team.

    Enjoy!

You don't need to read anything to understand what is going on in the movie. But probably the best way to understand everything is to first know everything about all of the mutants in the movie. So go to IMDB, write down the names of all of the mutants appearing in DoFP and then go to marvel.wikia.com the main marvel universe is universe-616

Even though he won't be in a lot of it, read up about Biship, a lot of the future stuff has to do with him. Read up on the sentinels and Bolivar Trask. Maybe read about the sentinel Nimrod. There are some links below that could really help you. Really though, wikipedia and the marvel wiki and I'm sure there is an X-Men wiki are amazing resources.

http://marvel.wikia.com/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_141

http://marvel.wikia.com/Nimrod_(Earth-811)

If you're willing to drop some dollars and want to be an X-Men expert for the movies buy these two omnibi from amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Uncanny-X-Men-Omnibus-Volume-Printing/dp/0785185690/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397491138&sr=8-1&keywords=uncanny+x-men+omnibus

If you want really want to drop some dollars get these as well, though I don't think they will be as helpful to DoFP

http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Chris-Claremont-Jim-Omnibus/dp/0785158227/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1397491138&sr=8-3&keywords=uncanny+x-men+omnibus

EDIT: Forgot to say that the DoFP story line is in the first Uncanny X-Men Omnibus.

There are a few different places you can start:

If you HAVE to start from the beginning just read the first 24 issues, you can then skip over to Claremont's era

My recommendation would be to either start with Chris Claremont's 1st era (aka 70's) & 2nd era (aka 80's) on Uncanny X-Men or from 2001-ish (aka modern X-Men) time period onwards onwards. Either way just skip the 90s for now, you can alway go back to that later.

  • Claremont's first era (70s): You can buy them HERE and HERE

  • Claremont's second era (80's): You can buy them HERE and HERE

If you want to start with Modern X-Men...

  • ...you can start with Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men which you can buy HERE

  • Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men start's right where Morrison's New X-Men leaves off and you can buy that HERE and HERE

From there you can get caught up pretty easily if you follow this list in order:

  • House of M (buy here)
  • Messiah Complex (buy here)
  • Second Coming(buy here)
  • Schism (buy here)
  • Avengers Vs X-Men (buy here)

From there I would move on to the current All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men titles:

  • Read all of All-New X-Men (pre Battle of the Atom Crossover) Buy here: VOL 1 & VOL 2 / VOL 3
  • Read all of Uncanny X-Men (pre Battle of the Atom Crossover) Buy Here: VOL 1 / VOL 2
  • Read Battle of the atom crossover (buy here)
  • Catch up with All-New X-Men VOL 4 / TRIAL OF JEAN GREY / VOL 5
  • Catch up with Uncanny X-Men VOL 3 / VOL 4

Great, now you're all caught up!

PS, the great thing about X-Men is there is a ton of content to explore aside from the main storyline!

  • X-Statix (buy here)
  • Uncanny X-Force (buy here)
  • X-Factor (starts with these two: HERE and HERE)
  • Cable & Deadpool (buy here)
  • Wolverine & The X-Men (buy here)
  • Ultimate X-Men (start HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE)

    ...and much more!

    Happy reading! :)

> I know you asked for comics, but there's a novelization called "Gifted" that focuses on Kitty Pryde that I really liked. (If your wife hates Emma, she would definitely like the way Kitty is constantly chastising her). It's a fun and short read. Here's an Amazon link:

That's perfect too! Thank you!

I bought this

http://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Age-Apocalypse-Scott-Lobdell/dp/0785159827/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367640381&sr=8-1&keywords=age+of+apocalypse+omnibus

It was pretty expensive, but it's pretty cool, and has all the relevant collections I believe, along with a couple bonus things

X-Men (1975 - 1981)
Giant Size X-Men #1
Uncanny X-Men #94 - #124
Uncanny X-Men Annual #3
Uncanny X-Men #125 - #138
Uncanny X-Men Annual #4
Uncanny X-Men #139 - #143
Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1
Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 2
Maybe better ways to get this that are more cost effective but this is one option (goes for all the links in this post).

If you know you can't get into comics from the late 70's and early 80's because the writing style bothers you then I would look at either Grant Morrison's New X-Men or Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men.
X-Men (2001 - 2004)
New X-Men #114 - #117
New X-Men Annual 2001
New X-Men #118 - #154
New X-Men Omnibus

X-Men (2004 - 2006)
Astonishing X-Men #1 - #24
Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men #1
Astonishing X-Men Ultimate Collection 1
Astonishing X-Men Ultimate Collection 2

IMO the Claremont, Cockrum, and Byrne stuff is much better then the others and holds up to this day however it was written in a time when you did have to read the comics there are lots of words compared to a modern comic, this bothers some people.

Thank you very much, this really helped my understanding.

Based on the information you gave, if I’m looking to read the early run that everybody seems to love, I can get it collected in these two Epic Collections: 1 | 2

Also, for the Vol. 3/Vol. 1 run from the 2000’s it seems there’s two bigger trades (1 | 2) that encompass it.

Here is book 1 of 2 of the "Complete Collection". I'm almost done with book 1 and I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the hitsquad known as X-force.

I'd also recommend Kyle and Yost's run of X-force (which features Wolverine, X-23, Warpath, Wolfsbane, and Archangel ). But bear in mind this is dark and bloody. Here is book 1 of 2

u/isuldor · 4 pointsr/xmen

I'm not familiar with lotdk. Try God Loves, Man Kills (1982)

u/elile · 3 pointsr/xmen

Oh ok. No wonder I liked the colors so well--the version I read is a scan of the singles.

Looks like the issues you mentioned are all in X-Men Visionaries: Jim Lee, and all except #269 are in X-Men: Crossroads, so I'll definitely be looking for those next time I'm at the bookstore. Maybe the coloring will be better than I expect, on one or both of them.

I always thought that the Magneto+Rogue thing was a bit out of left field, but I agree that the arc itself is really awesome. X-Men felt kind of loose and confusing around this time, thanks to the Siege Perilous throwing everyone everywhere, and the return of Rogue was when those loose ends really started being tied back together.

Unisex Jean Grey Dark Phoenix Jacket Costume Cosplay X-Men Suit Coat (XS, Female Coat) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TT5MF6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nv0UDb83N95WE

u/Mr_Weeble · 6 pointsr/xmen

I'd start with the MadroX limited run from Peter David, which was so successful, it spawned a new run of X-Factor (which if you are getting the individual issues, be aware that it goes from issue #50 to issue #200)

u/DJToastyBuns · 2 pointsr/xmen

You can buy a new copy for under 50. Be warned that omnibuses are extremely uncomfortable to read...but Mike Allred's art is absolutely gorgeous in the large format (except for the dr strange thing) and there is zero gutter loss due to the sewn binding.

u/VaudevilleDada · 2 pointsr/xmen

Hmm, this is kind of a toughie with such limited info to go on. There's been any number of short story anthologies featuring the X-Men. By "a book" can I assume you mean a trade paperback? Could it be this one? It collects various shorts from the second volume of X-Men Unlimited. There's also Manifest Destiny, as well as two volumes of Vignettes, though those are older stories that wouldn't be as overtly dark as you describe. Do any of these sound familiar?
