Yes!! I've been lifting for a few years and it all started with the book the New Rules of Lifting for Women: http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Rules-Lifting-Women/dp/1583333398

SUCH A GREAT RESOURCE, comes with programs for 6+ months of efficient and effective training that varies depending on your goals. I recommend everyone start with that, or at least have it in their library as a good resource. Once you have a hold of the basics and good form, then it's a lot of fun cruising around bodybuilding.com's complete (and free!) programs and simplyshredded.com's female interviews, which include the interviewee's favorite programs. I would definitely start with the New Rules of Lifting, though, since it will create a solid strength base which will give you the confidence and good form to be able to play around with your programming later.

Also, Mark Rippetoe's book "Starting Strength" (pretty popular, you can probably find at the library) is dense but very very clear as to the proper mechanics of every basic lift and has a good beginner's program outlined towards the end.

FINALLY, while you don't need to look at those programs, you do need A program and to write down what you do every time you go in. This will prevent you from overworking/underworking certain muscle groups, help you keep track of strength progress, and also allow you in a few weeks/months/years to remember what worked for your body and what did not.
Good luck!!

About 24 oz of water with 1/2 tsp of NoSalt + mix-in. I started off with the Aldi's Fit & Active lemonade mix, but didn't realize for a while that there is maltodextrin and aspartame in there. Personally, I wanted to move away from those ingredients. Switched to True Lemon and didn't realize for a while that there are 3g carb per packet. Granted, I was using about 1/2-3/4 a packet a day, but I wanted to cut down on unnecessary carbs where I could. Currently, I use Kool-Aid packets (about 1/8-1/6 of one per 24 oz). My favorite flavors so far have been the lemon lime and tropical punch, but I still have a lot more to try! I did not like the lemonade personally. I usually have 3-5 water bottles a day, which I know it's waaay more potassium than recommended in the /r/keto FAQ, but it works for me. When I first started to drink potassium water, I only used 1/4 tsp and couldn't drink too fast or else I'd feel tingly. Now, 1/2 tsp several times a day is completely fine for me. I just pee with more frequency and volume than pre-keto.

Whenever I try to add table salt to the water mix, the flavor is too weird to me. It's...too sweet almost, but not sweet. I'm not sure what to call the flavor. Instead, I just try my best to add salt to my foods. I try to hit /at least/ 2500 mg a day (tracking via MyFitnessPal). I'll end the day with some dill pickles if need be. I don't feel guilty about those at all and find them quite crunchy and delicious. I used to be quite opposed to salty tastes pre-keto, but I'm growing more and more to like it. I prefer the taste of the pink himalayan salt to regular table salt.

Magnesium, 3 pills a day before bed. I think these combined with having a cup of chamomile tea and switching to reading instead of TV before bed have /really/ helped make my sleep schedule more regular.

Ketogenic diet is not a fad. It was developed in the 1920s to eliminate/minimize epilepsy and other seizure disorders by Dr. Wilder at the Mayo Clinic. It was widely used and fell out of favor in the 1950s when Big Pharma pushed pharmaceutical products as a treatment. Presently, Ketogentic diet is utilized when the pharmaceutical treatment fails. The Ketogentic diet continues to gain popularity and is becoming more favored over pharmaceutical approach.

I feel that the book "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable " is the best to book to provide her. The authors Dr. Steven Phinney and Dr. Jeff Voleck are very educated and site a ton of research (both modern and historical) on the subject.

Dr. Stephen D. Phinney is a Professor of Medicine Emeritus at UC-Davis. He is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. He has twenty-five years of clinical experience as a director of multi-disciplinary weight management programs and has contributed to books and peer reviewed articles and is an expert in low carb nutrition and metabolism, fatty acids, inflammation, and the metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Jeff S. Volek is an associate professor in The Human Performance Laboratory at The University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. He is an R.D. and has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology (Pennsylvania State University). He serves on the editorial boards of Nutrition and Metabolism and the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. He has published over 200 scientific articles and chapters.

This book is geared more toward medical professionals and people that have a great interest in the science behind it all.

Hope this helps

Keep smiling

I have found that taking a multi-vitamin greatly helped me on my keto journey. I take Super Nutrition for my daily ( for you: http://www.amazon.com/The-Womens-Blend-180-Tablet/dp/B00028PHN0). I eased into it, taking one in the morning, and one in the afternoon (not in the evening, the vitamins kept me too active and I couldn't go to bed. CLEAN ALL THE THINGS! lol). Other than Nutrilite, Super Nutrition has been the best vitamin for me. I have used several. Also, I see it has the biotin /u/sosotris recommended.

I also take Magnesium for muscle cramps. I take both of these "at the right times", and supplement on an as-needed basis http://www.amazon.com/KAL-Magnesium-Glycinate-400-tablets/dp/B00013YZ1Q , http://www.amazon.com/Nature-Made-High-Potency-Magnesium/dp/B002E7N1CG.

Disclaimer: I am not a woman (I get leg cramps, especially after consuming alcohol), and I am not associated with any of the brands listed.

Interested to know what you land on when you find something that works for you!

I'm Vietnamese too and have been doing keto/lazy keto for the past 2 years. Lots of Asian foods have loads of hidden sugars in it, so I typically find a recipe that I crave and make it at home. I google "low carb Asian bla bla recipe" and many of them use stevia sweetener or others as substitutes. The taste is a little different than regular sugar but eventually you'll get use to it.

Sadly I only use a slow cooker to cook chilis, but check out r/ketorecipes for some ideas.

Here's a list of my top go to's:
Cauliflower rice

  • I always have a few heads of cauliflower in the fridge. I cut it down into smaller manageable size and put it in the food processor (grater if you don't have one). I then pulse it until it gets it into a "rice" size. I put the amount that I want to use and heat it up until it's nice a fluffy (~2 min but play around with it). I put the remaining grated cauliflower into the fridge for later use.

I make sushi by mixing the "rice" with chive cream cheese. I also add some furikake if I'm feeling fancy. Just make sure to check the nutrition facts as many are high in carbs. I found one that was 1-2 carbs per tablespoon. Just use sparingly. I also make low carb spam musubi with this "rice" as well.

    Zoodles
  • This is a god send and I just recently started adding this to my meals. I bought this spiralizer last month: http://www.amazon.com/Spiralizer-Tri-Blade-Vegetable-Strongest-Heaviest-Gluten-Free/dp/B00GRIR87M. There are cheaper versions but this guy I feel won't cramp my hand as much--plus it's so fancy lol

I spiralize the zucchini to the preferred thickness, and sauté in some vegetable oil on medium heat. Make sure it you don't cook it down too much as it will become mushy. Typical I take it off right when it starts wilting. Lots of water will be released too and I usually take a colander to drain afterwards. I also put cold water over it to stop the cooking process. You can easily add it to your mom's pho or any Asian noodle dish. Remember to not overcook the zoodles--especially when you put boiling pho broth as it will make it even more mushy :)

    Shiritaki noodles
  • I put this at the end as this personally isn't my favorite item but your mileage may vary. At the Asian market that I go to has a Japanese brand. http://i.imgur.com/wttmPVA.jpg
if you dunk it in water to rinse the smell out and nuke it in the microwave, then it's a good ramen noodle substitute.

IMHO the tofu shiritaki brand is very chewy and I've tried it MANY times with different cooking techniques --but it still tastes weird to me. Definitely try it out if you want as some folks had success stories.

PM me if you have other questions! I'm not the best chef but I get by with my cravings :) I typed this on my phone and can add more items when I'm back on my computer

Great!! The keto flu is much improved if you replenish your sodium, potassium and magnesium! So, make sure to drink a cup of broth every day this week... Morton Lite Salt is a good source of potassium and Natural Calm is my favorite magnesium supplement. And if you don't have magnesium or potassium supplements, try some Powerade Zero or sugar-free Gatorade to get those in your system.

Most of all, stick with it through the flu! For me it was only two or three days, and once I was through it I felt so great. More energy, more happiness, less need to sleep all the time... yay keto!

u/AndroidGingerbread · 1 pointr/xxketo

My daily electrolyte supplements usually look like this:

  • 1 packet of ElectroMix mixed with a teaspoon or 2 of Natural Calm in a glass of water.
  • 1 chicken bullion cube mixed in a tall mug of hot water. (Sometimes I do this twice a day, depending on how I feel.)

The rest of my electrolytes come from food. If I still feel unwell after the above, I may drink another ElectroMix. This seems to be working well for managing my induction.

Remember: Spinach is a good source of potassium and other healthy nutrients. It never hurts to mix it into whatever you're making or have a side salad with some olive oil.

Best of luck to you and KCKO! :)

I have yet to find a low carb brownie recipe that is actually close enough to the real thing to make it worthwhile. However, I do love make chocolate whipped cream. Just add coco powder to heavy whipping cream with your favorite artificial sweetener and blend until fluffy. You can also add cream cheese to make it more of a cheesecake type of thing. If I add cream cheese I usually also add natural peanut butter to make a [mousse] (http://www.yummly.com/recipe/5-Minute-Peanut-Butter-Mousse-Low-Carb-and-Gluten-Free-540020?columns=5&position=3%2F13). Definitely helps with the PMS cravings.

My favorite chip replacement is pork rinds. They are so good with sour cream or just on their own. I get this kind.

u/getofftheisland · 2 pointsr/xxketo

Here's the kind I bought. Works well and I've never had issues but of course YMMV.

I have the Ozeri Pronto scale which I find to be very accurate to the gram/mL. I purchased it based on the "Best Kitchen Scales" review by the Wirecutter (it was their best budget pick) a few months ago and find it useful for basically everything, from cooking to making Ketochow to making sure I'm putting exactly 30mL of cream/half and half in my coffee every morning :)

u/becca2k · 4 pointsr/xxketo

I strongly suggest reading (or listening in my case) to Gary Taube's "Why We Get Fat, and What to Do About It". This book is what convinced me to go Keto, and I've never doubted my decision once. Taubes did a great job convincing me why I never wanted to eat a high carb diet again. As was suggested to me, I recommend you get the audio version of the book- it's a bit tough going in the first chapters, so easier to get through the audio for me. :-) KCKO!

u/EnnuiWoodpecker · 1 pointr/xxketo

I am a huge fan of free weights to machines. Gimmicky lady-gyms (if I'm thinking of the right one) suck and give women the COMPLETELY wrong idea about weight lifting.

GO TO THE OTHER GYM. Let your trainer teach you what's what and don't worry about the bodybuilders. Literally, they don't care you're new and aren't ripped. I've never met a serious bodybuilder who doesn't LOVE talking the ear off someone just starting out. They are probably the most supportive people in that gym, I promise.

I try not to bother other people when I'm at the gym because I think it probably comes across as condescending. But if I could hug and high five every woman that came in and ignored the treadmill and went to the dumbbells, I absolutely would. (I do high five strangers at the gym, I'm not going to lie).

Weightlifting cures what ails you. I'm only doing keto because I really think it'll help me improve in the gym, too.

This is a FANTASTIC book if you really want to get into lifting:

Two weeks of keto! Haven't even contemplated any type of cheating. My SO is trying a week of keto starting today, so I'm excited!!

I've just read Why We Get Fat and it was really eye-opening. Most of the diet books out there are pretty... daytime talk show-y. Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, kind of over-exaggerating and scaremongering. This was articulate, interesting, and based on science and studies. I know it's nothing new to veteran Keto-ers, but for any newbies, give it a look!

Over the next few days, we'll be eating maple pecan pancakes with yummy syrup (from ruled.me), chicken fingers, pizza, burgers, thai peanut chicken, chocolate mousse, and brownie mug cake (ibih). I'm hoping to lure SO to stick to keto in this week. Wish me luck!

u/Litcritter10 · 1 pointr/xxketo

This magnesium is the only one I can tolerate. It is magnesium glycinate. I've tried others with awful results. Natural Calm gives me horrible digestive problems but works for many others.

Edit to add: The magnesium spray is also a great suggestion! You could spray it directly on your legs before bed and because it is absorbing directly into your skin it will bypass your digestive system altogether. The brand I've had success with is called Ancient Minerals, which is also available on Amazon.

What's the longest stretch you've had at keto without a cheat? Meaning, the longest you've stayed at or near your prescribed macros of carb and protein? Honestly, if you make yourself stay at it without cheats, the urge to cheat will fade. But I do understand the social aspect of things makes it pretty difficult. Luckily for me, I am a boring person who doesn't go out too often. I bet if I spent every weekend with awesome folks and awesome food, it would be hard to stick to keto religiously.

I'm not sure of the solution to your inquiry, but I think you have to be rigid with yourself, at least until you know you can reliably a) always pack keto food with you on your outings, b) eat a few bites of forbidden food and just be okay with that, c) abstain from all of the forbidden items and be okay with it.

Not sure about the macro question, but I'm just now reading the Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living (link) and if you only maintain around 50-60% of calories from fat instead of keto levels of 70%+, that's when the damage from carbohydrates can really kick in metabolically speaking. But on the other hand, if you overeat calories you will probably gain weight. So I'd say it's a dilemma.

Sorry for the long post - good luck to you!

u/Amesicle · 1 pointr/xxketo

You can find Natural Calm on Amazon, for sure. It's a powder.

ElectroMix should be near Emergen-C stuff. But you can probably order it from Amazon, too, that might be the easiest way:

http://www.amazon.com/EMERGEN-C-ELECTRO-MIX-Lemon-Lime-4-2/dp/B002HWRY5S

Some people were mentioning that electromix had been re-formulated and now has sugar, so make sure to double-check the label before buying or taking!

u/AnaEatsEverything · 2 pointsr/xxketo

About a week into keto, I purchased The Keto Diet by Leanne Vogel thinking it could give me some recipes to change things up a bit. I read the entire first half of the book in a single night!

It easily explains the science behind nutritional ketosis, has this AWESOME troubleshooting guide for anything you might experience while trying it, and has 4+ months worth of meal plans which include options for vegetarian and allergy-free variants. All of her recipes are dairy-free, and I am NOT dairy free, so I admit I add in a lot of cheese. :D

Anyway, the book's recipes are decent but not the best, but it's 100% worth purchasing as a newbie's guide to keto. I have pages bookmarked that I still reference nearly two months in. Good luck!

This bad boy! So the red/orange container is gelatin you can make into jello and the green one is gelatin that won't gel and you can put into your coffee. But what really helps me is using the red/orange container gelatin to make jello with Powerade Zero or I'll use water that's been mixed with Emergen-C Electro Mix and sugar-free syrup for flavor.

From my research stay away from Knox gelatin (yucky taste) and Sugarfree Jello (only has a minute quantity of actual gelatin).

When making jello with this gelatin use these instructions (taken from the first review in Amazon for this gelatin, but I modified it a little to make it keto-friendly):

"i start off by mixing 1 cup of COLD liquid with the 2 tablespoons of gelatin in the measuring cup.
keep mixing till all the gelatin has been mixed with the liquid, don't leave any chunks.
then let sit for 5 mins. This will bloom the gelatin.

After the 5 mins, dump the cup of liquid/gelatin into a dish, and then clean your measuring cup, then pour
another cup of liquid into your measuring cup. I then microwave this cup for 2 minutes (maybe another minute after i test it)
then take it out to measure the temperature. you want to try to get the liquid around 160F degrees. (should be pretty hot to the touch)

then i mix in the sweetner [I don't add any] to taste, then add the hot liquid to the cold, and mix it.
it should all be clear after you mix them together, and then i leave it sit on the counter for a few minutes,
then put it in the fridge. It takes a few hours to harden."

I eat it all, I try to make 2 tablespoons of gelatin by daily dose so I use half the liquid mentioned above so there is less jello to eat because even then there is still a lot of jello to eat!

Let me know if I'm not clear! I can type slower than I think!

If you don't have one, buy a food scale on Amazon and weigh, weigh, weigh everything you put in your mouth until you get a true feel for what portion sizes actually look like.

I have this one. It's cheap $12.11 and very effective. https://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-Digital-Multifunction-Kitchen-Elegant/dp/B004164SRA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496749490&sr=8-3&keywords=digital+food+scale

Intermittent fasting is supposed to help with aotophagy, which is the process of your cells actually replacing themselves. So, that is definitely a place to start looking!

I do think water intake could have a lot to do with it. Generally I feel crappy and weigh more when I dont get enough water. Basically if you're not getting enough your body is going to want to hold on to what little it does have--- making you heavier.

As for calories, it all depends on your stats. There are studies out there (at work so i'm not going to link them right this second), but they basically say yes, to lose weight you need to eat less blah blah, but at sometimes if you eat more you lose more. There is a point where too few calories, and too much exercise just becomes detrimental and you won't lose a pound. Not sure if thats the case here, but I'd try upping your calories a few days and lowering them again if you feel necessary. I can tell you i'm 5'8 200 pounds, on days i dont work out i aim to get 1500 calories. On days I do workout I aim to get 2000 calories. There are days that I only eat 1200 calories and days I eat 2200 calories (and often lower on workout days and higher on non workout days). Anyway the point is, I like to keep my body guessing at whats actually happening with calorie intake. I'll have to find that study for you.

If the peanut butter cups are homemade i'm assuming they're find then... You can never really tell by the names of foods in MFP whether its homemade or some type of atkin's replacement food.

I personally dont use a powdered sweetener--- Its all still VERY confusing to me as well (and there are some awesome redditors here that can give you ALL the info on this) but I stick to a liquid sweetener because from what I understand, your body processes a powdered sweetener as a carb where as a liquid sweetener it doesn't. Not sure how true that is, or the science behind it but I've been using EZ Sweetz ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MO765O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) found on amazon.

I hope this helped a little!

I've had this EatSmart Precision Scale for a few years now, and have been very happy with it. It's very accurate and reliable. My routine is to step on and get a reading, then step off and get a weight with just one leg resting on the scale, then step back on and get another full weight reading. That way I feel confident it's not just giving me the same number over and over without really checking, if that makes sense.

u/westmoso · 1 pointr/xxketo

I take two of these at night about an hour before I go to bed https://www.amazon.com/KAL-Magnesium-Glycinate-Chelated-Servings/dp/B00013YZ1Q. they are pretty big but if you place it on the length of your tongue like | not --- they go down smooth with a big gulp of water. Everything goes well in the morning.

I drink Lyteshow and while it's not a powder, it comes in liquid form and you just squirt it right into your water. It doesn't have any additional flavoring or sweetness and does have a salty taste to it, so if that's not your thing then adding a packet of Crystal Light, or something similar will solve it. I like that it's more than just salt. It also contains Magnesium, Zinc, Chloride, Potassium, & Sulfate.

I've only tracked inches since i started Keto. I used this tape measure that came w/ a scale before only to realize that it didn't give an accurate number since there was around 3 inches that went unmeasured. my best guess was that I was 50 inches before maybe 51 in waist and now I jump between 44 and 45 inches.

Oh boy, this is pretty rotten. You do tons of research, you're a biochemist, and your boyfriend still needs to mansplain to you that you're a big dummy for falling for a fad diet that doesn't work? This is really disrespectful and undermining.

I'd tell him it's not up for discussion, PERIOD. And, if he insists on going at you about a well-researched personal choice of yours, that you'll consider it very disrespectful and act accordingly.

If he has questions about keto, tell him to pick up "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" and educate himself a bit.

I may be coming off strong, but I get so upset when I hear of men undermining the well-reasoned choices of their wives/girlfriends especially when they don't have any facts to back up all of their opinions. You're doing something healthy and positive for yourself. Don't let him drag you down.

Get a food scale. I use mine more often than measuring cups. It's far more accurate. 1 cup of broccoli will never be as consistent as 100g of broccoli, for example. Using a measuring cup will give you different amounts of food. Sometimes you can fit more broccoli and sometimes you can fit less broccoli into a measuring cup.

I'd agree with other posters that repeat meals make life on keto a lot easier. Here's an example of a day for me:

<-- 11am: Chai tea w/ heavy whipping cream, equal sweetener OR decaf coffee from fresh beans, w/ heavy whipping cream, equal sweetener. (Sub almond milk if calories are a concern)

11am - 2pm: Leftovers OR 1 egg, 4 slices bacon, strawberries. If lifting that day, also 1 isopure protein shake w/ almond milk.

2pm - 5pm: ham, nuts, and mustard, rolled up in a slice of swiss cheese x2 (these little wraps are SO GOOD! I throw in some pickles or cornichones if I've got 'em).

5pm --> ground turkey chili with greek yoghurt or sour cream, thai red curry soup, taco bowls over lettuce, FAT HEAD PIZZA, and now, keto biscuits and gravy are my go to's for easy, quick meals.

Dessert: berries with whipped cream, or low carb ice cream with a dollop of peanut butter.

---------

I aim for dinners that are easy, low clean-up, cheap, and which make enough leftovers for at least two more meals, then I eat those leftovers for lunch as mentioned above. I'm in maintenance currently, but when cutting I eat at 1200kcal, so my meals also need to be lower in calories (hence intermittent fasting).

Blegh. I got some lite salt last weekend and tried pouring it into my water because I have heard people say they do that. Apparently I should have put some flavoring in there, because even though I thought it was a small amount of salt for 24oz of water, it was pretty much salt water. And I was determined to drink it! So, that was gross.

This stuff: Elctro-Mix is my godsend right now. It has ZERO calories & carbs and it isn't crazy sweet like other powders. It has a tart flavor, I hate when drinks are super sweet and fake tasting. I drink 1 in the morning with 12oz of water, and keep a pack on me jic I crash during the day.

I have had the mid-range Cuisinart food processor for years, and it's a fantastic machine. However, it doesn't do the nice long zoodles - it's more of a shred. Getting one of those spiralizer tools is probably what you're after:

I just bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0005YM0UY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has twice more potassium in 1/4 teaspoon, in case you are interested.

I use this, 1-2 drops in my coffee and it's like using 2 TSP of sugar

My scale cost $20 from Amazon and it changes between grams (and kg) and ounces (lbs). It's the bomb. My husband doesn't think twice about it now, and I've gotten really good about using it.

It's this one.

It came with batteries but immediately needed new ones is my only complaint about it. It's unobtrusive on the counter.

Emergen-C Electro Mix is a great electrolyte. Just add to water and be done.

The first week for me was horrible. I started a new job, the new job was very busy so I didn't have time to eat... thus was crazy hungry but really trying to stay on track. Plus I felt crappy and was really spacey. Not good for a new job. Oh and when I exercised my legs felt like they had cement on them. It gets better.

Look into chelated magnesium.

Shouldn’t cause the shits, and has somewhat better absorption.

I bought this stuff

I usually mix it with water flavoring stuff since the lemon-lime flavor isn't very strong. I dig it!

In case you didn't know When people are saying No salt they mean the lite salt verities that have a mix of Potassium and Sodium.

(I didn't know this at first)

I think you deserve a good scale first of all - I bought this one from amazon and it has been consistent AND is the same one my doc's office uses! http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Precision-Bathroom-Capacity-Technology/dp/B001KXZ808/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397011234&sr=8-1&keywords=scales

Take it to your doctor's office and compare (I did this and they were spot-on the same) and go from there. My weight fluctuates crazily, always has and I hate it - I would like to weigh just once a week but I have not that willpower. :)

if you're taking magnesium oxide, you'll get diarrhea. Even the magnesium citrate can be problematic. Magnesium glycinate is very absorbable and won't wreck your stomach.

Those potassium deficiency cramps are kicking in! I had really bad charlie horses in my calves for what seemed like a week - it hurt to walk. Once I upped my potassium, they went away! Lite Salt can help - sprinkle it on your food that needs salt, or sprinkle some in the water you're drinking.

Good for you!! Stay strong, and fight back against your body whining like a 5 year old about sugar and carbs!! The more I have said, "no, body, this will not make us feel good and then we will have to start over," the less whiny my body seems to be 😉

also, I found this book about the keto diet where she talks about re-adapting carbs once the body is fat-adapted, so in about a month, I can reassess and see what my body needs.

Yesterday was my day two and I felt. Like. Hell. Today I feel marginally better, but I know the bad stuff will pass. KCKO! 💪🏻

I bought this one back in March and have no complaints.

There are disputes in the low-carb community about the calories-in calories-out theory. I recommend checking out ["Why We Get Fat: And what do to about it " by Gary Taubes] (http://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Get-Fat-About/dp/0307474259) to get a peek at one side of the dispute.

Before Keto I did Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig - I ate no more that 1500 calories a day with an average of walking 3 miles a day when I was 5'4" and 220lbs. I lost weight, but not very quickly (1 lb a week if not in a plateau). Keto has made things much easier for me to manage as I don't track calories in at all, but I am super strict on carbs, atleast for this first 30 days that I am "back on the wagon" I won't go over the 20. I have lost 30lbs total on Keto (3 months)

-Edited for double negative :(
