Here's the breakdown as I see it:

Barring getting a blacksmith to make you you the real deal for thousands and thousands of dollars, the best you could do would be to buy this guy's handmade replicas: He doesn't always have ebay auctions up though, and some times his work will turn up for sale elsewhere.

EDIT: Aaron of Fiberglass Blades is stopping production so that he can move on to bigger and better things. There will be a few auctions for what remains of his inventory this year, but don't expect to pay less than $1000 a piece for each item.

If you are looking for the cheaper mass produced kinds, there are still several to pick from, and even then you need to decide if what you want is more for display or if you actually intend to carry it. None of these are combat safe in any way, but some still are better than others.

A disclaimer about these links: all of these can be found from multiple sellers at multiple prices, so do your shopping! I'm using amazon for picture purposes.

The best one for display in my opinion is this one here. The hilt and blade look fantastic, and it comes with a plaque. It is not good for swinging though; it is very heavy and is most likely not full tang, aka the blade does not continue into the hilt. That said, it is a beautiful piece for the price, and I have one on my wall. It seems to be based off of a mixture of the Link to the Past and Twilight Princess Master Sword designs, as it has barbs, but is not blue in color. There are newer versions of this same sword modeled after the blue master sword and a Dark Link Variant, but I avoided the former because I don't like how the entire handle is one shade of blue. That's your call.

Next up is this one, which is probably the most common. The blade is long, but does not have that awesome shape that the above one does. In my opinion, it does not look as much like the master sword as it ought. The upside to this though it that the sheathe is the best one going in terms of mass produced pieces. I am cosplaying as link at Otakon this weekend, and will be using the sheathe from this sword, attached to this belt that was basically made for this model.

The sword I will be using is this one. I know what you are thinking. Foam? Really? Yes. This is a relatively new product and is of far better quality than I could have expected or even hoped for. It is cosplay safe, light, and the best shape/size/detail/quality replica I have found for the price. if you plan on carrying one without getting arrested, this is the one.

There is another master sword replica out there that you need should watch out for. this one looks very similar to the second one above, but you will notice the blade looks mildly different in the photos. In truth, this one is far smaller than the above one, and is also sharp as hell. Can not recommend. Check the details like blade length and width before buying.

As for the shields, there are thankfully fewer options. As mentioned above, Fiberglassblades makes an amazing one, but it's super expensive. I'd like to own his shield and sword one day, but it will not be anytime soon.

Your mass produced choices as far as I can see are this one or this one

I have the first one, and it is a decent replica for the price. It is set to be held in your left hand, though you can remove the handle, so I expect you could modify it for more accurate use. It is also ready to be hung on a wall, and looks quite nice while doing so. Older models are more flat, while newer models are more curved like traditional shields (unless mine is just warped.) The Downsides are that the strap and handle are rather flimsy. I have reinforced the one I'm using this weekend by making my own leather strap and super gluing the handle in place. This will sadly prevent me from using this shield as a display, but I have an older model for that.

As for the second one, it looks to be a newer version of an earlier and different model. I don't have experience with it, but from what I can tell it seems to be a high quality replica. That said, the model I believe it is based on was not able to be hung on a wall, had the triforce crooked, had the bird painted on and not embossed, and could only be used in your right hand. Perhaps this is why they are pushing this new version. If you get this one, please let me know how it is, because I must say it looks good from the photos.

EDIT: Another user has reported to me that this model still has the issues I had with the earlier version. Neither the Crimson Loftwing nor the Triforce are guaranteed to be accurately placed. This may vary from shield to shield, so buyer beware.

PHEW! Hope that helps!

Yep, bought the Wii U BOTW version on day 1, played 80%, then took a break. (my roomate also had the some DLC on the wii U but I didn't play it yet).

Fast-forward, got my Switch (Mario + other future releases really sold me on it), and I decided to re-purchase BOTW on Switch + all DLC + the new awesome hardcover book (and also an amiibo or two. )

(The Wii U version still re-sells at a high price, sold mine on Ebay for $40.)

Now I'm going slower with this play through, (Ex. the Plateau part has many cute interaction moments w/ the old man if you don't rush getting the 3 temples and instead explore it well, felt a lot sadder for me this time around when he revealed his identity and left. )...So overall I've been finding a lot of interesting things that I either rushed past before or didn't have the skills for the first time around. Aiming to get all the temples and maybe the koroks, and I'm doing a lot of sidequests I missed + all the dlc this time. Overall, worth it and very fun I think.

**Also, I like playing on the Switch itself a lot more, overall looks slightly better (no noticeable lag and the draw distance for the background may be improved + they confirmed the sounds on the Wii U version was downgraded a lot for some reason? ). My roomate likes the portability of it, I myself like a big tv screen paired with the amazing pro controller the Switch has now. Hope this helped.

Only certain models of Wii can play Gamecube games...Nintendo discontinued the backwards compatibility feature in later Wii models. If your Wii can play GC games, you should try to track down the special collector's edition disc with both original NES Zelda games, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask all in one (https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Collectors-Adventure-Ocarina-Majoras/dp/B0007W5IUS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501535879&sr=8-1&keywords=zelda+gamecube).

Wind Waker was also released on the GC originally. I personally didn't like it but I'm in the minority of fans there.

Twilight Princess can be played either as a Wii version or a GC version...I honestly don't have particularly strong preferences either way but I hightly recommend TP regardless of which version you want to play.

Skyward Sword is the only pure Wii Zelda title. I personally didn't like it but you might feel differently. It's a pretty divisive game on this sub.

Don't worry about what order to play them in. The Zelda games don't really have any overarching chronology that impacts the games in a meaningful way. Every game is basically its own separate story with a few minor shoutouts to other titles.

u/airconditionedwords · 3 pointsr/zelda

I didn't get the Expanded version, but bought the original (it was discounted if you purchased it with the game).

The guide is helpful. It also came with some nice stuff (e.g. gigantic map), and it's nice to skim through casually (and looks pretty cool on a bookshelf or coffee table), so I would say it boils down to a want vs. need. Do you have the extra $30 where it won't adversely affect your ability to pay your bills? If so, then go for it. If it's going to put you in a bind, then maybe hold off until you have the flexibility.

> if possible on the original hardware

I'd like to make a slight argument here: if you have a backwards-compatible Wii with component/RGB/YPbPr hookups, it might be a good idea to consider playing the Collector's Edition version of Ocarina of Time for GameCube over the original N64 version due to the increased picture clarity. It's the same game as the N64 version, and plays much more accurately than if you used a third-party emulator on PC or something. On the other hand, that version has slightly longer loading times when going to new areas or opening/closing the menu since it's reading from a disc instead of a cartridge, which might make a certain infamous dungeon even more frustrating since you're constantly taking trips to and from the menu there (for reasons I will not spoil here).

Majora's Mask is best left to the N64, though; the Collector's Edition version has some minor framerate drops, and I've read that there was a random freezing bug (I've never experienced it myself, but they say it happens more often if you're using the game's rumble feature, which I never did).

I definitely wouldn't recommend using an emulator like Project64 or Mupen though, at least for a first-time experience; those emulators work pretty well, but they also have some graphical weirdness, the joystick mapping feels slightly off no matter what settings/controller you use, and experience is just not quite the same...

Oh, and Zelda 1 and 2 are also fine on that disc, with some benefits over the NES originals: higher resolution, no fighting with getting 30-year-old hardware to read the old carts without errors, the ability to switch to another memory card if you want more than 3 saves, and maybe a few more things I'm forgetting. A GameCube controller is also arguably more comfortable than an NES controller, if that matters... ;)

Get him the Viz Manga and/or Link to the Past graphic novel. That listing will probably end soon, but you get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Also, if you haven't already, get him Hyrule Historia. He'll flip his wig if you get him that (I mean that in the best way possible).

Hope this helps! :)

Just got myself a ripped Breath of the Wild soundtrack, and I thought "man, this thing is a total mess. I need to clean it up!" So I went to amazon's high-res photo cache and got to work! It's based on the awesome-looking Piggyback guide: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1911015214/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm also prettying up the tags on the soundtrack, which I'll post when I'm done if there doesn't end up being a better one floating around first.

Enjoy 😄

I was going to order the guidebook for $30 ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1911015486/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) but Amazon didn't even ship it for three weeks. So I chatted with support the other day who told me it never shipped because of a technical error. So I followed their directions and reordered three days ago and they upgraded me to one day shipping. However, I still have not received any update on the order and I am so confused. Has anyone ordered this book and had it actually get delivered? Also, at this point should I even get the book? I'm not very far into the game and playing slow, and I think I would find it useful for info about the game, not necessarily solutions to Shrines. Plus I like collecting.

u/Razzerc · 1 pointr/zelda

I tried ordering this mug from that site or a similar one and my bank restricted the purchase due to a security issue, but I was able to find it on amazon. The pictures in that link look questionable too, with the portraits being much shorter than what they really are on the mug.

I would personally recommend from amazon instead, just from my personal experience. I absolutely love the one I have!

u/Rhoso · 2 pointsr/zelda

I recommend buying one of these. I use it all the time and works with a ton of games. Best 20 bucks I've ever spent. Besides, Xbox 360 has my favorite controller.

u/never-say_die · 8 pointsr/zelda

The product link is dead: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LCHZRIK/

My pre-order still exists but the shipping date changed from "March 3rd" to:

"Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."

I'm hoping this is just a temporary glitch and not indicative of a cancellation.

EDIT: Also looks like the Switch physical version is missing as well. Maybe the physical stock is delayed and they're assessing release date delivery availability. I'm curious if anyone with pre-ordered Switch copies got an email about this.

u/helloeleni · 1 pointr/zelda

Since everyone keeps asking.

I got mine at a used book store a few years ago. It really is quite deep.

You guys might enjoy these, too: Final Fantasy, Doctor Who, Star Wars. I used to work at a bookstore and the "_____ and Philosophy Books" were some of my favorite to recommend to people.

u/Fallen_Ishmayl · 1 pointr/zelda

These were all in Nintendo Power (at the same time as a much-less good Super Mario comic) prior to TLoZ:ALttP being released on SNES. There were (I think) 16 issues (but I'm not positive on that). I remember back then, when I was 11 years old, finding the ending extremely bittersweet, and I've read them multiple times over the years. They're very well done.

For those looking for them, there are TPB's available. This is the most recent one.

u/MHzBurglar · 1 pointr/zelda

To be honest, I like this one better (though it's not MM specific)

http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Retro-Zelda-Hard-Pouch-Nintendo/dp/B00ND0EBP4

I'm surprised either can still be found after the MMN3DSXL situation...

That's how you do it with a wireless controller. I'm pretty sure you can just plug a wired straight into a usb slot.

u/kylowynn · 1 pointr/zelda

I completely agree.

Also, the BOTW concept art from the upcoming Art & Artifacts book looks like it was based on WW. With those eyes, Link almost looks almost like a grown up WW Link…

u/thedarklord187 · 5 pointsr/zelda

Anyone happen to have bought this ? If so did you find it worth the $30 price tag was it actually useful?

u/Sneeko · 6 pointsr/zelda

FWIW, I found it on Amazon here - USAopoly The Legend of Zelda "Legend of The Hero" Puzzle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZY3XPFL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_WEZDAb9HRBEEG

u/DazednEnthused · 2 pointsr/zelda

That one is from the 25th anniversary artwork. I got it on a large scroll for a friend to hang in their room. Search amazon for 25th anniversary zelda.
Edit: here it is http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C0IHWL0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426614288&sr=8-1&keywords=25th+anniversary+zelda&pi=AC_SX200_QL40

u/SectlandFugitive · 2 pointsr/zelda

I believe there are currently four 1000 piece puzzles.

u/Malkuno · 1 pointr/zelda

There's amazon, they've got a few 3rd party sellers.. Although the price seems a bit high for all of them..

http://www.amazon.ca//dp/B001TOQ8UW

u/ropington · 2 pointsr/zelda

I bought this about a month ago and it is really good quality and cheap.

u/Avian_Legend · 1 pointr/zelda

If you're running Windows 7 or Vista, they both have the Xbox 360 controller drivers built in. You can just plug a wired controller in and play. If you only have a wireless controller though, Microsoft makes a wireless adapter for PC to let you connect your Xbox 360 wireless controllers and wireless mics; here's an example of one from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311541262&sr=8-1

The puzzle that this case is taking the design from if anyone is interested

USAopoly The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker Collector's Series #2 Puzzle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B880RRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MRCgzb7WBREW7

You sure? I've been following this for the last few days (Mine still says delivering on Friday, March 3), and now you can even pre-order the Wii U physical version for delivery on March 3 again: https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Breath-Wild-Wii/dp/B00LCHZRIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488225218&sr=8-1&keywords=breath+of+the+wild

u/Lyianx · 1 pointr/zelda

I didnt care for that one to be honest. I went with this one.

u/XZero319 · 1 pointr/zelda

It's live now on Amazon for $79.99. Amazon will honor the lowest price before release.

u/AalumShake · 1 pointr/zelda

They just came back into stock - I just ordered. You should get the game upon launch date!

u/reddittailedhawk · 1 pointr/zelda

Ordered them both from Amazon Canada - Wind Waker, Link & Epona - which I found out is actually called Link's Ride

There is another one (about artworks and illustrations) coming in February

https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Art-Artifacts/dp/1506703356/

And a third one has been announced for Japan

In case you needed ideas for next Christmas ;-)

u/Harddaysnight1990 · 1 pointr/zelda

That's really cool, but if it were me, I would've gotten this one instead.

u/Midnightatnevada · 3 pointsr/zelda

To my knowledge, there's no such thing as a mass produced metal Hylian Shield. If you want one you'll have to make it yourself or have one custom made, which would likely be quite expensive. This is about as good as it gets. Sorry.

u/Airikay · 2 pointsr/zelda

Yea they're on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Art-Artifacts/dp/1506703356/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485030292&sr=8-1&keywords=arts+and+artifacts

That's the Art Book which is the first. The second book will be an encyclopedia of sorts and isn't up for preorder yet. And we don't know what the third book will be, but should be out this year.

u/ErsatzCats · 3 pointsr/zelda

Just came up. Not available yet.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Deluxe Edition: The Complete Official Guide https://www.amazon.com/dp/1911015214/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_d8DPyb71E9BSF

u/Billy_droptables · 1 pointr/zelda

Just need an adapter, they're about $20 and let you hook up up to 4 controllers. Alternately you can get a cable to use the controller wired, but those are usually about the same price anyway.

I mean that isn't true about it being exclusive to Game in the UK, Amazon UK has it right here

u/floflo81 · 1 pointr/zelda

I have one of this exact model of 3rd party controller. It's cheap crap with barely functioning analog sticks (my character in The Last Story or Xenoblade moves even when I'm not touching anything) and weird bugs (the pad crashes and must be reset with a button on its back when you switch to Wii mode from the Wii U menu).

Buy an official Classic Controller Pro: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0037US4IA
